- Myahon, on 11/24/2007, -17/+99WE MUST FIGHT THIS INJUSTICE. He'll surrender quickly to any opposition, he is french after all.
- aramova, on 11/24/2007, -5/+70Fixed Headline: French Surrender again, this time to RIAA!
- Adamande, on 11/24/2007, -9/+64I don't know what the french were thinking when they elected this guy. He seems to be anti every ideal those people have guarded ferociously since the revolution. Where's the "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" when it comes to big business' stronghold over the people? Why not just send these offenders to jail like anyone else? Banning internet-access would be the fastest way to dictatorship. The french better pray the people overseeing this nasty little law are unable to abuse it or elaborate on it in any way.
- Vector713, on 11/24/2007, -8/+53Fire Ze Missiles!
But I am le tired...
Well, have a nap, then fire ze missiles! - JuanCarlosII, on 11/24/2007, -3/+37Give the government the power to limit access of information to its citizens
thats a good idea... - vesopeso, on 11/24/2007, -1/+34This means that sooner or later 90% of the french will no more have Internet access....
- ToadLeg, on 11/24/2007, -1/+30This has got to be completely unenforceable. If I write "09 f9 11 02 9d 74 e3 5b d8 41 56 c5 63 56 88 c0" in this comment, then everyone who loads this page in France has one strike against them for downloading a decryption key.
- niczar, on 11/24/2007, -1/+29He controls the media. His friends own the main TV channels.
He could have been beaten easily, if the opposition had shown his gay love for Bush. But they stopped as soon as the right whined as it being unfair. See, we're no better than you, our right is a bunch of treasonous corporate whores, and our left a bunch of whiny spineless doormats. - themoosejuice, on 11/24/2007, -1/+22Geeeez, Pirates used to trade floppy disks and use 1200 baud modems way before the internet, think this will change anything? You can shut down the entire internet in france and your start seeing a mad rush or pirate dvd's in the stores. Its UN-STOPABLE peoples. Its dumb to fight it. Its human nature to share.
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -1/+22I fart een yur general direczion.
- Bensign, on 11/24/2007, -3/+23Fail.
- afruff23, on 11/24/2007, -14/+33Why don't you focus on your ***** HIGH unemployment, idiot?
- Ghazi, on 11/24/2007, -1/+20Sicko was shot before Sarkozy was even running for president, let alone elected.
- Mitchbones, on 11/24/2007, -1/+18you just owned 6 people.
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -4/+20SiCKO is AbOut hEALthCarE!
- papavb, on 11/24/2007, -1/+16well at least the french can put on a good fight if they're dissatisfied with leadership, american workers used to do so in the 19th century, sad to see people blogging every damned issue like Colbert pointed out, and not really fighting
*goes to blog about it* /sarcasm - thebellmaster1x, on 11/24/2007, -2/+17If you steal a car -- somebody now has no car
If you copy a file -- - solid12345, on 11/24/2007, -0/+14If you get caught 3 times you shouldn't be calling yourself a pirate to begin with.
- asforme, on 11/24/2007, -1/+15"The plan would use information from ISPs on "high-volume users" to find file sharers."
That's profiling, I will not tolerate us who must try every Linux distribution ever made being profiled as pirates because we practice the full usage of our internet. Or does that argument only work for religion and skin color? - asforme, on 11/24/2007, -2/+14I don't steal, I copy. The record company still has their 1's and 0's, and now I have mine.
- niczar, on 11/24/2007, -1/+13A similar provision in a bill voted last year was struck down as unconstitutional. This is extremely unlikely to ever be implemented -- but Sarkonazy cannot be trusted with anything.
- Rezistik, on 11/24/2007, -2/+11Let them buy their media at extreme prices!
- barnis, on 11/24/2007, -1/+10are they planning on removing the lungs of anyone caught smoking pot three times?
- matu4251, on 11/24/2007, -3/+11Sarkozy was elected hands down... 53% with 86% of participation. Any one saying he isn't legitimate is a fascist. So far he has been implementing what he has been elected for (reformes de la carte scolaire, des universites, de la carte judiciaires, des regimes speciaux, grenelle de l'environement, ... ). France had been at a stall for the past 20+ years. If your only source in term foreign (french in this case) politics are blogs you see on digg you might as well just shut up because you obviously have not clue what you are talking about.
- VodkanLemons, on 11/24/2007, -3/+11if the French president cuts off people's internet...
there will be some pissed off hackers who will cut off his internet - thebrawl, on 11/24/2007, -0/+8Everyone on the Internet is a file-sharer. Guess it's back to freedom fries for a while
- kronix2, on 11/24/2007, -1/+8Too bad file sharing is legally defined as copyright infringement. It is explicitly NOT stealing in the traditional sense.
The fact that the **AA still refer to it as theft shows how much they rely on misinformation. - Pake, on 11/24/2007, -1/+8"A better indicator would appear to be the employment-population ratio (or employment rate), that gives the percent of people employed within the working-age population."
So in other words, manipulate the data until it fits the agenda. I'm sorry, but not everyone works or needs to work and using working-age population will make the US look bad, because not everyone needs to.
So basically, the best indication is still Seeking Employment compared to Employed, which is what is most people use. - jellygraph, on 11/24/2007, -0/+6Idiot. Sarkozy has nothing to do with MM's film and wasn't elected yet when it was filmed,
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -0/+6Except, file sharing is a lot more like looking at the apple without paying to see it.
- Caprica, on 11/24/2007, -0/+6I did too.
But I'm French, I can't help it no matter what. :-) - blackjack75, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5I don't like him either but the only thing that is true in your sentence is that he is right wing.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5Uncle Jack?!
- pintomp3, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5and sarkozy is a conservative, by french standards anyway.
- VodkanLemons, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5i think their average internet speed is faster than in US
- TwwIX, on 11/24/2007, -1/+5Sent in a German pirate and he will quickly change his mind.
- Daggity, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4With all the French riots that have been happening, seems like a bad time.
- Caprica, on 11/24/2007, -6/+10The article fails to mention that this "plan" Sarkozy endorsed also says :
- DRM (for music and video) has to come to an end within 1 year
- Movies must be made available via VOD six months after their theatrical release (instead 7 and a half today)
- Justice will not be involved right away (you will have to get caught a few times, so just don't get caught or learn from your past mistakes)
I don't understand where all the Sarkozy bashing is coming from. To American standards, the guy is pretty liberal. He's a mix between Kucinich and Al Gore.
Definitely the best President we've had since De Gaulle (who was a stubborn bitch). - sfacets, on 11/24/2007, -1/+5Sarkozy is a dangerous nut. He is really asking for a full scale revolt by the youths of France.
- breakaway, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4Can't stop sneakernet though
- compulsive1, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4This will last all of 3 weeks until the system gets hacked and circumvented.
- cryptomystic, on 11/24/2007, -1/+5No wonder why Bush loves this guy like a brother.
- Fentekreel, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4well there goes the internet in france.....sorry french people.
- andycr512, on 11/24/2007, -2/+5This is your first stupid comment. You get only 3.
...oh, crap, it's not your first. Ban! - Sniperclops, on 11/24/2007, -2/+5I don't like this Sarkozy character. His policies blow.
- banthis, on 11/24/2007, -3/+6I feel bad for my fellow frenchies :P
- MadScientist440, on 11/24/2007, -1/+4So by that code of ethics, the people to whom you are giving what you stole are doing something wrong, but you aren't? Help me out here. I'm new.
- Caprica, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3Where in sweet baby Jesus' name do you see a comparison in my comment?
And Sarkozy has been around for long enough for us to know what he is made of. We did not elect a total stranger. - matu4251, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3"loves this guy like a brother"... and you know that first hand from your buddy Dick Cheney?
