- lewkus, on 11/12/2008, -4/+356I wish all governments around the world would keep their dirty little fingers off the internet.
Most politicians are old, stupid and simply do not understand how ANYTHING on the internet works.

Then they came for my fast pipe, but I said nothing because I thought The Pirate Bay was a marketing tool for Captain Morgan Rum.
Then they came for my computer, but I said nothing because I thought that file sharing was a nice thing to do - just think of all those poor Internet users with no files, and here I am sharing mine with them.

- Sillywombat, on 11/12/2008, -8/+51Like they need to monitor illegal downloading in NZ!!
Its one of the world's slowest countries for the internet. Dial-up through old copper wires. One would be lucky to get a webpage up before a time-out notice.
Still, i think its so sad that every country, one after the other, is destroying the principals of the internet, and what it was founded upon. - ahawks, on 11/12/2008, -2/+45Dear Users,
We know you love to think of this place as yours, but let's face it, we own the unfrastructure and the companies that maintain it. We also own the major sources of content, both those provided freely to you via ads and those which you insist on pirating.
Appeal to your government all you want, but we own them too.
So piss off,

- elfprince13, on 11/12/2008, -0/+43dang it, now my list of countries to move to is down to Sweden.
- AndrewMoyer, on 11/12/2008, -0/+40Nope, they're just actual pirates.
- Pritchard, on 11/12/2008, -2/+42Dear Diary,
Today I saw John, the school quarterback walking out of the men's locker room without a shirt on. His abs were really buff. He was still dripping wet from the gym shower. It made me feel funny. At first I thought I was jealous, but I kept tingling for some reason... I don't know why, but something felt -different-. Something that I can't explain... The campaign my father's been petitioning for recently won't leave my head. American Family Association? Yeah, I think that's it...
Did my penis get hard because I'm a homophobic?
I don't want to be afraid,

- FreddieD, on 11/12/2008, -0/+28I'm thinking companies that offer SSH tunnel proxies to looser-lawed countries will get a bit more business soon.
- 42Vindictive, on 11/12/2008, -0/+28Dear The Media Giants,
You own nothing but our business. Without our funds pouring in, your wires and funny internet videos are worthless. Stop trying to control us and instead let us carry out what the model intended: business.
Regards, Users - CaptRage, on 11/12/2008, -1/+28Time for the underground internet created by neighbors wifi's.
Or a private internet owned by one company that believes in no evil. - Trekhawk, on 11/12/2008, -0/+27I guess they don't have trials in New Zealand either if accusations = summary punishment.
- Br3ach, on 11/12/2008, -0/+27Every day is Talk like a Pirate day :D
- InspectorGadget, on 11/12/2008, -1/+28Good thing one government can't set policy for the whole internet, legally or practically.
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -1/+27I think the government is asking for trouble here. When you piss off enough L33T HAXXORZ around the globe, things start happening to those that were to blame.
- cyrusuncc, on 11/12/2008, -4/+30I accuse Prime Minister Helen Clark of copyright infringement on the Internet. Lets all join and do the same!
- Lynxist, on 11/12/2008, -1/+27Yarr. There always are matey ;)
- SamDuvall, on 11/12/2008, -2/+26I realy hope this isn't going to grow bigger than this.
- lornefs, on 11/12/2008, -2/+26Hey, is it talk like a pirate day again already?!
- duckyinc, on 11/12/2008, -1/+24Government controls ISP, ISP controls internet. So Government controls Internet and look at china, people don't keep whining they just get something to bypass the blocks.
- bbqsalad, on 11/12/2008, -2/+24Lets kill EVERYBODY!
- Myztry, on 11/12/2008, -0/+22Gather a list of every responsible New Zealand government and new world order member, and their personal ISP, and let the accusations start flying.
Nothing like a dose of ones own medicine... - squigglethecow, on 11/12/2008, -0/+19I could say the major sources of content are the users.
- cyrusuncc, on 11/12/2008, -1/+20no, but they can regulate the companies who provide Internet in their country. This isn't a world wide issue, but it is definitely a step in the wrong direction and sets a precedent that should have never been set.
- letuescarpe, on 11/12/2008, -5/+23Are you seriously citing a Cracked article as a news source??
- Petrushka72, on 11/12/2008, -0/+18This may help explain, for those who don't get jokes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZQopX6r-54 - keithloughnane, on 11/12/2008, -0/+17something like this will happen in a few countries. After that you'll hear politicians all around the world call for "harmonization". It happens all the time with copyright law.
- MWeather, on 11/12/2008, -2/+18Simple solution: repeatedly accuse the PM of copyright infringement.
- reed311, on 11/12/2008, -3/+18If this was happening in the US, the police state troofers would be going mental.
- benologist, on 11/12/2008, -2/+17There was a cracked.com article the other day that explained the inevitability of what's gradually happening. Anonymity and zero personal responsibility are not in line with the real purpose of the internet which is commerce, and their demise is inevitable.
When push comes to shove and legitimate, tax paying, people employing businesses are at threat governments will step in and govern it just as they do the towns, cities, ports and everything else in their jurisdiction.
The *only* remaining question is whether it'll be governed on a global scale or per country.
