- pastasauce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47The world would be so much happier if we forgot about all the suffering around the world... and everyone occasionally got a free router.
- 52tease, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29How did you know I spent a full half of my day trying to fix my Netgear router and the other quarter shopping for a new one? I was just about to head out to Circuit City and checked Digg just beforehand (yes, I'm aDIGGted). Thanks for this perfectly-timed find!
- infimprob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24@freakon sure but irrelevant

- eMadman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Digg me down. It seems to be possible if you switch the online shop's locale to the specific country. After that, just add the router and punch in the following promo code:
795811379574011 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13got one too, love the 0.00 deals :)

this system is AWESOME!!!
for those who havent heard of it, you get a free router, you hook it up, and your location is updated online for the world to see, in turn you get to look at other locations, so if you need wifi you can find the nearest one :) - dumpstergames, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Just to note they don't ship it outside the US.
Saves you the time of signing up only to be disappointed! - Flump5000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10freakon sounds like a debbie downer
- jeremy66158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They do ship outside the US just not for this offer...see other free offers...after all they are headquartered in Madrid, Spain! They also have software that will turn a mac computer in to a wireless FON access point with no hardware! You can test the software if you email and it goes public in April. http://blog.fon.com/en/archive//fon-and-mac-.html
- PaddyTheChump, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Sorry to abuse the comment system, but this DOES work in canada, just go to the canadian site and use the code. 795811379574011

Kiddies: Don't put your e-mail address on a publicly accessible website like Digg. You can't get much stupider than that. Use a dodgeit.com address instead. - HeL1ves1nYou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Got mine today

Oh well, back to our primitive shrimps and barbies. - themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'll be surprised if this work. The last promotion I saw on Digg from Microsoft's free USB drives was disappointing.
- Vill4no, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hopefully this is not BS, I'm still waiting for my free reem of paper and the free 64mb usb thumb drive.

KR Korea - dizzytaz00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Got mine 2/12 ordered it on 2/02 by FedEx. Didn't think I get one i was shocked when the girlfriend handed to me.
Not sure what I'm going to do with it - unruled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks a million Sariel!
If I chose the netherlands out of the dropbox, it wouldn't let me use the coupon code (it would redirect to the american version of the website..)
After modifying the URL as you said, it accepted the coupon, and no costs were added.
Cheers man, digg this fellow up.
Don't know how it is in other countries, but in NL and europe hotspots are almost always something you gotta pay for...so I really support this initiative. - Himself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3FON router .. replace firmware with DD-WRT... excellent
be sure to send the router back if its not on the DD-WRT approved list - airmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I didnt read your comment in time, damn!
- dsthunder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4if you dont wanna share your wifi just puta a tin can over the antenna
- unruled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just received mine (and my friends) today. Awesome little thing, and TINY, and when I say tiny I mean smaller then my hand tiny (ok ok, I got BFG hands). The flat ethernet cable is something I haven't seen before, but definitely digg!
thumbs up la fonera! 100mbit wifi hotspot coming right along :) - o2o2o2o2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cool, but, the last time I signed up for one of these things, like the FREE MICROSOFT USB DRIVE, I didnt get squat.
I have no idea what this router does, but I signed up to get one anyway. - dyzlexiK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It works in Canada. I just did it.
- o2o2o2o2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hacking the FON Router
http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/05/1919220 - zai-asal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Did anyone catch this at the bottom of the first registration page?
"If I am a Linus or a Bill that my Internet service provider authorizes me to use my WiFi connection as a FON Access Point." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They don't want you using a router because if you turn on DHCP you can screw everythign up royally. I used to work for ITS at my college and we had tons of tools doing that. You can do it, just set the IP address of your router to be what the school assigned to you (have it clone your MAC if that's how the school does it) and then have your DHCP server in it just dish our local IP's to your machines. My room mate and I did it that way when we lived on campus. Good luck.
- SydneyBristow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You guys realize the point and 'catch' of the Fon router you're getting, right? I keep seeing comments about people that are excited about getting something for free...even if they have no idea what they are really getting.
Fon is a system where you share your internet access at home - the one that you are paying for right now (roadrunner, cox, dsl, cable, whatever) with other Fon users. In exchange for sharing your home internet with others, you have the right to use internet access at other locations that are also hooked up with Fon.
If you're ok with that, by all means, get the router. It's a pretty cool idea, and I hope it works out, even though i'm not interested in it. But don't just get the router just cause it's free and you like getting free stuff. I can just imagine a flood of diggers getting the router, then, upon receipt of the router and instructions are aghast at the idea of sharing their home internet with others, and let it sit in a closet. It's just wasting resources of the company and making it harder for other people who would actually use it.
Anyways, just wanted to let others know what the "Catch" was. - medecau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3apparently they will ship it to me in Portugal, Europe.
i just had to change to the shop of my country and introduce the 795811379574011 code for the discount.
They validated the address and seems to me i have an order. - HalFTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This definitely works, I just ordered one to the UK, here is the Invoice: http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3950/foninvoiceieuxxxxxxxde9.jpg
