- freestufftimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I don't mind earning some guy some money. It was a useful post, and a useful site. Plus it really didn't cost me anything, and might end up making me a few bucks.
- idig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I have a bridge to sell you...
- greatclare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Gotta love Microsoft, I'm on a Mac using Safari and this MS site is causing some issues that won't let me input all my credit card info. Seems like money from Apple users must be tainted. Or Jobs doesn't want me giving money to BIll.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8that hasn't already been made by 15 other .com businesses!
- keitho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7that $200 on MS will go a long way.
- freestufftimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love when people are skeptical about something and dont even look into it. These coupon codes all work, I just signed up for everyone but google.
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Google adwords is SOOO damn expensive. I own a small plastics company and I signed up with Adwords not too long ago, and I put a .07-.40¢ cap on the CPC rate.. I almost instantly found myself with a charge of $500 per week on my credit card, and I wasn't even NEAR the top 10 in my common search terms. So, after fine tuning it to death, I determined that if my budget was a max of $150 per week, and I wanted to be in the top 3 spots, my ads would only be seen only for the first hour of the business day. Even when I set a max of $150 per week, they kept billing me for $200-250.
It's insane the amount of money Google makes... and business continue to crawl over themselves for top spots in their search engine.
I've basically removed myself from the program and I'm now concentrating on optimizing my pages for better positioning, and paying someone to do it at $100 a month, and getting MUCH better results from it.
Does anyone every really look at the sponsored ads on the sides anyway? not really, it's the page/subject/specific ads that cost you.. and it's usually just the 'browsers' that cost you a bundle as opposed to the people who've actually done a search term looking for you. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This kind of thing is outrageous. [sorry in advance for this OT rant]
Rogers Wireless here in Canada just "upgraded" their billing system. It still uses PDFs to display your bill, but now it doesn't work in anything except IE! I e-mailed them about this and they told me that they were sorry I was "experiencing difficulties" and that I should use IE. They said if I _choose_ to use Safari or Firefox** that I may have some trouble with their site. I wrote them back telling them that it was unacceptable to tell me to change my operating system, or run it in a VM just to view my phone bill online. It used to work, now it doesn't. That's not progression it's a regression. They don't even give you a link to the PDF now, it's embedded in the html. Even a link would at least work. They wrote back saying they've passed on the info blah blah blah. Basically they said "screw you" to a 3 year customer who just signed a 3 year contract. *****.
** Or opera, or epiphany, konqueror, etc. nothing except IE/Win, presumably IE6/Win and nothing else.
How can this go on in 2006, especially from fscking Rogers? I mean at least in 1995 they would have had a stupid, animated "This site works best in IE" badge on their site so you'd know that it was a broken P.O.S. - gonzo1773, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Might be a good idea to cancel before the month trial/account balance runs out.
I used one service a few years ago for a low $29 a month. They didnt bother to tell me that it was $29 the first month, $179 /mo there after. (note: that company is out of business now) - jkirk7msa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice, thanks for this and yes you do have to use IE. Now, I've got to figure out the most profitable way to use this...
- freestufftimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Same happened to me. I had to use IE, I was using opera.
- succubuskiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm interesting, I won't deny Google is making bank. I do not fully agree that they are very expensive for a small company. To get targeted leads that you can track is very difficult if you do print, or regular ads which would end up costing more than using search. I run some expensive ads for my clients which is reasonable considering competition and the payoff if they get a client, but they are paying fairly high prices (avg. $10+ cpc). Their return versus TV has been far far greater. Only 1-2 from the commercial.
But I am curious to see if you choose a really really generic keyword. It seems that your company would fit into a niche market. I would also analyze your conversions to see what days are actually producing results. They now allow you to block the times and days for your ads, you will need to have been running 24/7 to make a reasonable conclusion though. Also another way is to reduce the region where your ad is showing, depending on the type of customers you want. Also depending on the keyword if you choose a generic term, your conversions on the #1 spot may put you in the negative while #2-3 spots will qualify customers better.
Most importantly, if you have a high priced keyword try to stay away from the content network(AdSense). Reason being is that most likely it will be a lot of fraud, I have not seen any real decent conversions to justify the cost. There are sites out there that just list high paying keywords to pump your MFA(Made For Adsense) sites.
Yahoo! was one of the worst, some of my clients were getting bogus clicks from the middle of no where. There were other sites in the Y! pub network which took the ad, stripped out the HTML and Sponsored link area, and slapped it together looking like plain old link and tricked people to think they were clicking a regular link. We contacted Yahoo! and got no real response(We will look into it), henceforth no more Yahoo! for the time being. I haven't tried their new ad tool though.
Hope this info helps some people. - cybernezumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Had the same problems with Safari. With OSX Firefox I managed to get signed up, but couldn't enter my ad. Finally had to use IE in Crossover to get things running.
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1succubus... thanks for the tips! I didn't stop to think about putting a time frame on my listings, or that they were being shown around the world.. and I only do biz in the U.S. and Canada. Duh? ha! Thanks for the heads up... I'll see if I can even do those things, had NO idea. :)
