being a Texan myself; i would just like to apologize for all the other hill-billy redenecks that live in Texas with this kind of attitude. We are not all like that... i promise :D - consonance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38These people must really be ignorant to not know that the mascot of the Arizona State University football team is a little devil. Surely Texans like football!
- ShiverMeBoner, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38Sorry to say this, but the US is filled with people like this. You don't have to go to Texas just to find closed-minded, ignorant fools. They might even live close to YOU :P
- igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36@The Jeffer...
i am about 80-90% convinced this is real... why? i live in texas and i actually _know_ people like this. i don't enjoy their company, but i know them nonetheless - wtfhacksDan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Native #1: ``Do you think the police know about these devil computers?''
***** classic - exobyte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26I dunno. Not very ignorant, but certainly a little crazy and incoherent.
- Waterrat, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33 That's just plane scary!
I'm just glad they didn't follow her and attack her outside. - cyn0sure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25did you even RTFA?
- Rsulliv1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Are you kidding?
How ignorant do you sound? - Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Before you go hunting me down to kill me, I didn't write this nor did it happen to me. I just submitted the story. Don't kill the messenger..
Damn, speaking of making the world a better place..... - Chesh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19What are you talking about? I'm not just saying that, I really have no idea.
- r3neGaDe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18This had nothing to do with intolerance. You either didn't read the story, or didn't read it very carefully. It says a few times in the beginning that the potential slapper was a woman responding to a comment about "having the devil on her chest." Not realizing that she was wearing the t-shirt at the time, her gut reaction was to slap the dude for saying something about her chest. So before you go and bash people, make sure you're not being an idiot...
- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19@ khyberkitsune
Man you are one seriously pissed off grunt. After perusing some of your other comments, such as this one,
"That's why AMD has almost *ALMOST* always led the road in power/performance ratios, right? Or how their MIPC is higher than intels, even without the benefit of a 64-bit OS, right?
I suggest you spend the same 20 years I did in the field learning, and STFU until you have any sort of comrehensible data to back up your claims. I have my own, owning both intel and amd systems, with wall outlets rigged with power meters. My AMD's kick any of my intel's asses, with EQUAL everything minus the processor, and the AMD beats the Intel, GHz for GHz. Screw game benchmarks, I use REAL I/O specs. Let's see your RAM hold up to what I put it through daily."
I can only conclude that you need to get laid... - rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Also remember that 72% of statistics are made up on the spot!
- cyn0sure, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yeehaw *****!
I've met some of the nicest, smartest people in Texas. And I've met folks like these too. All kinds... - Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The computer tower spins in circles and spits floppy disks eeeeverywhere!
- archemedes, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21I'm FROM Texas! This NEVER happens! The real rednecks have little Satan decals peeing on Chevy logos stuck in the back windows of their Ford trucks and wear Black Sabbath concert shirts!
Whoever wrote that story made it up whole cloth. Nobody in this state actually acts like that. - dssstrkl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18This is an oldie but goodie! God help us if Shelly the Republican gets wind...
- Wolfghost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I've met as many rednecks in New York and California, as Texas (no, I'm not from any of these states). Aren't those two states supposed to be more sophisticated?
- MrDo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Forfty percent of all people know that.
- NeoPlatonist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I would say RTFA but you didn't even read the description right!
Edit: that was one of the fastest buries I've ever seen on a comment. - rmacnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Funny how he gets dugg down for associating all of America with the guys mentioned in the article, but people who associate them with all of Texas get dugg up.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Native: ``Ma'am, I think you're lying. And we'd appreciate it if you'd leave the premises now.''
- carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Hey...so that's a pretty reasonable reaction huh?
- cfpresley, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Anyone who thinks that 2 rednecks that happen to live in Texas are an accurate representation of all Texans is just jealous, and probably has an inferiority complex due to the fact that they are not Texans.
- Democritus2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11That is what I thought at first. Source seems reputable though.
Who knows.
Remeber 46% of americans believe that god created man in man's current form and the earth is 10k years old (source- some older probably rigged poll) - cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11it should probably be under Linux/Unix since it's about BSD, but really who cares... it's an intersting story.
digg++ - darkstar949, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9And 92% of statistical counter examples are of the cruft as well!
- darkstar949, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I lived in Texas for a little under 10 years and I can safely say there are some people like that. However, in all fairness, if you know where to look you can find people like that anywhere.
- stevennutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7And to think, here I sit in Austin with all these non-technical redneck companies such as cirrus logic, Advanced Micro Devices (thats AMD for all you oh soo sophisticated pig copulating Yankees) oh and that one tiny little company hardly any of you know….Dell.
Austin which ranked as the third most connected city in this simpleton infested nation, where everyone with a keyboard wants to flame anything they know nothing about. I am an avid linux / bsd enthusiast albeit my main machines are Macs (OSX is also built on bsd) I live in Texas and I am always marveling at new tech and the geeks that surround me. You really need to take your Trotskyism elsewhere, no one wants to hear you slam Texans, African Americans, Jews or anyone else whose views do not match your own. Its time to leave your banter in the 40’s where it belongs, next….. P.S. indeed do vote for Kinky, I have met him on numerous occasions and he is a fantastic idealist. - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+7I laugh at anyone who thinks Black Sabbath is satanic.
- rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Um, read the article before you make retarded comments, please.
- MourningZoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Haha that's awesome. I don't hate ignorant people, but I hate ignorant people who persist that their oppinion is the best and the only one that matters, even if what they think they are talking about really has nothing at all to do with the subject.
- TheJeffer, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16@igraham09
Take a wild guess where I live. That's right, Texas. Transplanted here about 6 years ago and I've been all over the state. I'm well aware that there are idiots here, just like any place, but that doesn't change the fact that this has FICTION written all over it. Mildly funny fiction, sure, but fiction nonetheless. - thealliedhacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I would just like to point out that, as much as people like to bash on Alabama, something like this happening here would be extremely unlikely. I've lived (in various cities) in Alabama for most of my life (for about 15 years I would estimate), and I've met some stupid people, but they are the exception. I live in Huntsville, where LITERALLY over 10% of the population are rocket scientists (this is where NASA does most of their design/development). I don't know anyone without a computer, and most of my friends are proficient in more than one programming language. I would have to try VERY hard to find a grown man who has never used a *nix OS.
- radda, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Ah, okay, mod me down then. I suppose digg is filled with 12 year olds that aren't able to see past stereotypes.
I mean come on people! Do you honestly think every single person that lives in Texas is a tobacco chewin NASCAR watchin racist homophobes? Guess what? You're wrong!
I give up. The ignorance is overwhelming... - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@escheriv
To be fair, there are more than a few people on digg who would produce a post like that trying to be serious. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be hard to see the sarcasm in that sort of situation. - diggerphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is an old joke.
Scroll down about halfway.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/04/22/apple_promotes_godless_darwinism/ - ascheinberg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I was going to say that. I call BS on this! The Sun Devils are practically LOCAL!
- rmacnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -15/+18It's a bit unfair to categorize the whole state of Texas, saying everyone who lives there is a redneck just because of the actions of two guys, don't you think? If you read an article about a black person committing a crime, do you immediately say "LOL, OMFG! Blacks are criminals!!!"?
- Ademan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WhiskerTheMad is totally right. On top of that, i live in liberal california, and i see ignorance of that kind and others ALL THE TIME, its not just "hicks and rednecks" that are supposedly like that, most people are ignorant, its just a fact, and there will always be very pushy, or mean, or even scary people who just happen to, by some misfortune, also be very ignorant.
THESE TYPE OF PEOPLE EXIST EVERYWHERE NOT JUST TEXAS. - Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Fake. Unless everybody on that area pretends to be part of the cast of Rawhide.
- chipset, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Don't feed troll guys :)
- CharlieInCO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think I first heard this story in about 1985. Can you say "urban legend", kiddies?
- chewbacca4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5and it's not a good forgery, either. seems written by a teenager.
- parker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+560% of the time, it works every time
- geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3thealliedhacker: I'm also a Huntsvillian, and I hate the bad rep that the South gets. The sad thing is... it's even worse in the northern states! Sure, they have the terrible accents or the obnoxious amount of conservatism, but the density of stupid people and rednecks is much much higher.
And are you sure that only 10% of Huntsvillians are rocket scientists? I have always thought it was closer to 20% or 25%. - drunkjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If someone ever asked me if I was a Satanist I would say "Yes, can I talk to you about Lucifer?"
-stunned silence-
"Lucifer Morningstar is the bringer of light, look it up. He brought us the light that allows us to see and not walk into trees. He brought us in door plumbing and the Pizza, you love pizza don't you? Who doesn't? Totally the work of Our Lord Satan. Satanism, lady, light, pizza, indoor plumbing and eating babies. Fresh warm babies!"
Then I would skip away singing the words to Black Sabbath's "Paranoid"
"Finished with my woman cause she couldn't help me with my mind
people think I'm crazy because I am frowning all the time!" - malkir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3god I wish I would run into some of these people.
- Sophistifunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Smells like BS to me, and immensely old. Why must this go around the interenet once every two years?
