- Boing, on 01/15/2008, -1/+35So....where's the picture of the bouncing boobs?
- CheeseburgerBro, on 01/15/2008, -4/+30WAAAAHHHH!
My 10,000 precious commentses! No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o! - Zorkon, on 01/15/2008, -2/+24Flickr was so much cooler pre-Yahoo, when it lived in Canada.
- Portwineboy, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2210,000 comments on Flickr? Somebody had too much time on their hands anyway...
- Ramble, on 01/15/2008, -0/+20He must be one sad git if he's made 10 000 comments. I've been on Digg for years and i comment like mad yet only have 3000 comments.
- skeptic42, on 01/15/2008, -0/+14so how is this nepotism?
- dijo, on 01/15/2008, -3/+15Flickr's response was awesome. Noone wants another MySpace.
- dogstar0125, on 01/15/2008, -2/+10Exactly. So ***** what.
- bluenash, on 01/15/2008, -0/+7Sometimes having all of one's comments "deleted" is a good thing.
- mikehill33, on 01/15/2008, -0/+7***** off spammer.
- dangerousdan, on 01/15/2008, -2/+8actorboy, the Flickr account in question was NOT free. It is an upgraded Pro account which has an annual fee.
- timbellomo, on 01/15/2008, -2/+8so what!?
- dangerousdan, on 01/15/2008, -1/+6Absolutely ridiculous, but then overall Yahoo's customer service isn't the best. However, since many of those who take the Flickr community seriously have PAID pro accounts, you'd think there would be a little more "customer service" rendered before such a harsh punishment was meted out. And for the "waaahhh" and "go somewhere else" people...what would you think if all your Digg comments were taken away for some trumped up reason? Or all your blog entries? People put time, thought, and a lot of themselves into building (and adding revenue-based content) to their community. Only it's NOT really theirs, it's ultimately Flickr/Yahoo's to do with what they wish. A damn shame.
- SLockhart, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5Move along folks. Nothing to care about here.
- rebotfc, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5I am probably going to be buried but I think this does raise an essential issue. As the web becomes more and more important and pervasive in our lives, wether its photos, document data, music files, or social network info, the private companies that run these sites become more powerful and relevant.
Whilst this particular case may be minor and perhaps a little silly it shows us just how much control a few people have. For instance what if Google Docs team decided to wipe all your google online work because you somehow violated your T.O.S. Do you have any comeback where is the line drawn between responsible administration and damaging censorship. Do these companies have legal responsiblity for our data and if so what rights do they have to destroy this data? Do you have the right to sue if data is lost/willfully deleted?
The internet blurs the lines of responsibility and gives alot of power to relatively few private companies. - No1nose, on 01/15/2008, -2/+7Hmm... maybe I will make my own photography hosting social site... with Blackjack and Hookers...
- Rikushix, on 01/15/2008, -6/+10That's harsh to say the least. I suppose it has to be put into context; that is, as outsiders to objectively judge if it was too heavy-handed we should see what sort of image she posted...but it sounds like it was pretty innocent. Unless someone posts something that's regulated under greater law than a TOS agreement (i.e. child pornography, or the like) I think this doesn't warrant that sort of wide-sweeping punishment.
- dogstar0125, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4Originally an Anti Nowhere League song, but yeah, Metallica did an awesome cover of it.
- Skanadian, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4It's actually not that hard. I've gotten over 10,000 posts in a forum in a couple of years and there's many with over 20,000 now. Just gotta be active and post a lot. You can't compare Digg to forums, it's a lot easier to get more posts in a forum.
- Leiterfluid, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4Maybe the person who complained is flicker's cousin.
- studdenfadden, on 01/15/2008, -3/+6Quote from Flickr: "we're not sitting around munching on bon bons hitting a big red button with glee."
Ironic since, I sit around munching on bon bons hitting the digg button with glee. - tcpip4lyfe, on 01/15/2008, -2/+5I didn't read it because I don't care. I did digg it though because that is an awesome picture.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4Except for everyone who is starting a website. They would KILL for another MySpace.
- pendrachken, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4Actually, wouldn't it be another 4chan?
- excitOli, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3Someone needs to stop grabbing words out of the dictionary to sound serious. Nepotistically speaking.
- DickyT83, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3Who gives a flick?
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -7/+9Their site, their rules. Don't like em go someplace else.
- dmoffitt, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2yahoo. the worst thing to happen to (what was?) one of the best things on the web... :(
- weebit, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2wow if you have a rival they can really mess you up big time. Join flickr and bury you. I sure hope they at least check into the complaint before they act on it.
- steelmaverick, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2dont worry....he'll wind up on /b/ somehow.
- rebotfc, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1I think you miss the bigger picture, its not about Flickr per se, its about the converging aspects of the internet. Ofcourse it's not sensible to have your only copies of important docs on a online server, but this IS the way things are moving. i.e. Google want's business to use their system as an alternative to MS Office.
Furthermore I didnt say FLickr was an essential part of life, what I did say was that the fact that we trust private companies with very personal data with no effective international statatury regulation is something we need to debate. Is this the way we want to go? - omarciddo, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1No clue who the hell Kavin is. Maybe Kevin knows.
- somerandomnerd, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1The tubes get hot in the sunshine- sometimes too hot to touch.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1I didn't even know there was a flickrverse.
- ThyLabyrinth, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Seems to me everything Yahoo! touches turns to excrement.
I've never been too fond of Yahoo! but it seems anytime it's in the news it's about something negative. F U Yahoo! - sfacets, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Sounds like Wikipedia, except the admins don't F* you around first.
- neocitron, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1how can you "inadvertently" post porn?
I'm impartial to the rule, but it's just one of those funny site admin quirks i guess. - somerandomnerd, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Yeah. There's no way that complaining is going to affect anything. I mean, no business ever listens to it's customers, or cares about it's public image, do they?
Sure, it's their site and their rules, but whether or not my photos and comments are my "property" is clearly a serious question at the moment. - Denithor, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1If Flickr sucks just go somewhere else instead of bitching about it.
- lumbergh, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Isn't there a site that is like Flickr but doesn't censor its content at all? I can't remember the URL...
- ReyBrujo, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Zero tolerance. I thought people liked it.
- thesonofdarwin, on 01/15/2008, -2/+3I take it you don't completely understand what happened in this case, as you would if you read the article and included link with responses from the Flickr team. Otherwise, I don't believe a sane person would make such an ass out of themselves. So I grant you your request.
- sj200, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Who cares?
- MrTito, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2What a strange way to make a point.
- bbqsalad, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1One Eyed Jacks is in Canada. Laura worked there for a while.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1http://digg.com/comedy/Is_this_how_to_contribute_t ...
- Speed, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1There is no writ of habeas corpus for criminal law anymore, why should there be one for Flickr law?
- CuddyBuddy, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Those who wish to have freedom should also practise it responsibly...else all you'll get from systems such as Flickr will be junk and worthless...
Some reasonable compromises will do us no harm, I'm sure - bloogey, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2boo ***** hoo - start your own image hosting service
- daskatzsocrates, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1free or paid his point is still valid, if you don't agree to the terms of service go start your own photo website. Just because you pay for a ticket into an amusement park doesn't mean you can do whatever the hell you wish.
