Flickr Has an “e” in it…Web 2.0 Spelling CORRECTED

mashable.com — One of Internet trends that has started to irritate people over the last few years is dropping vowels from company names - Flickr, Tumblr, Pluggd, Talkr, Anothr. As diehard members of the spelling Nazis, we decided to see what had become of the correctly spelled domains, which are still racking up pageviews from visitors who can actually spell.

    Thanks to Apple, we'll soon see another vowel shortage, leading to company names like Verzon, Mcrosoft, Toshba, and abbreviations like pens, vagna, and so forth.

    I know it sounds stupd, but there you go.

    It most likely has to do with the above link. As I understand it, trademarks that are legitimate words are more difficult to register and protect. A creative misspelling of a common word is NOT actually a word, so while it's still pronounced "flicker," they have a better chance of defending themselves in court if someone tries to infringe on their trademark.

    You'd have to ***** crazy to bid $600.000 for that domain. I call *****. 150.000 Unique Visitors a month ain't worth that amount of money. There's an thumbrule saying that a Unique Visitor is worth roughly $0.15 to $0.20 per month in average - if you have a real, working site with advertising on it. With the working site with content and advertisers, and if you collect the maximum amount of money from each visitor, it'd still take you atleast 20 months to make a single dollar. Oh, if the guy accepted the $600.000 bid that is. Which he didn't.
