- Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -2/+90What they don't point out is that there was a shortage of "e"s recently, due to overuse in years previous for email, eMachines, etc.
Thanks to Apple, we'll soon see another vowel shortage, leading to company names like Verzon, Mcrosoft, Toshba, and abbreviations like pens, vagna, and so forth.
I know it sounds stupd, but there you go. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+52digg ... hehe. because they couldn't afford 'dig.com' probably. the only reason why web 2.0 likes to misspell is because correctly spelled stuff costs a lot, while misspelled stuff costs $8/year

- redslash, on 10/11/2007, -5/+39Keep in mind which website you're viewing this on.
Yes, that would be Digg. With two g's. It's not just the vowels! - sruffelman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33I am so used to seeing Digg written that way that I forgot it was incorrect.
- PAJK, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26spellcheckr.com :D
- zengonzo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18I think the more important issue is copyright protection. It's much easier to defend a misspelled word.

- ajskhan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9As said by McAfee:
"When we visited this site, we found that its primary purpose may be to capture traffic meant for flickr.com, a more popular site with a similar name."

- CaseyThr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8don't you mean Nazs?
- 7sinz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Copyright is on content, Trademark is on names/etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trademark#Registrability_and_distinctive_character
It most likely has to do with the above link. As I understand it, trademarks that are legitimate words are more difficult to register and protect. A creative misspelling of a common word is NOT actually a word, so while it's still pronounced "flicker," they have a better chance of defending themselves in court if someone tries to infringe on their trademark. - UrbanVoyeur, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5They drop the vowels because the domain speculators own every single correctly spelled word and most variations.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7In case sites down, http://www.dugmirror.com
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5how about we institute a law saying if your domain page doesn't contain anything useful, it can be seized?
- woojoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6WTF?! They spelt digg wrong.
;~) - kidjay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5if you are seriously bothered by the vowel-dropping, you need to move out of mom's basement, stop taking classes at the community college and get a job. you're 40...its time.
- Kornmoshpitt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4and it all started with suprnova
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6woot isn't misspelling its slang
- abbott75, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Nzs?
- kokuou, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Buried as lame because these so-called grammar nazis can't even spell "shatterproof" right.
- Kazrog, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6GHOTI
- Stormen, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Seriously - Flickr.com compared to Flicker.com:
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?site0=www.flicker.com/&site1=www.flickr.com&site2=&site3=&site4=&y=r&z=1&h=300&w=610&range=6m&size=Medium&url=www.flicker.com/
You'd have to ***** crazy to bid $600.000 for that domain. I call *****. 150.000 Unique Visitors a month ain't worth that amount of money. There's an thumbrule saying that a Unique Visitor is worth roughly $0.15 to $0.20 per month in average - if you have a real, working site with advertising on it. With the working site with content and advertisers, and if you collect the maximum amount of money from each visitor, it'd still take you atleast 20 months to make a single dollar. Oh, if the guy accepted the $600.000 bid that is. Which he didn't. - nayr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5and why did they decline it!?!?
- zhulien, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2damn, http://www.prn.com/ is taken. I was hoping for a potential 9 mil!
- abcdefghij, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5and don't forget two of the most prominent web services and a new video service, have two Os on their names:

- moogle516, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7Coming from a country where you only speak english, hes not a dumbass, in fact hes moderatly smart as he got the continent correct at least
- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Huh, I go to look for some Barney Google comics and all I get is some lousy search engine. Stupid cybersquatters!
