- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1video here: it's marketing video from their booth i believe - but later in the video showing some OLEDs in action...

I'm active in that industry and UDC is one of the front players in the emerging OLED market. Expect something like this in your favorite handheld by the end of 2007.
- biff198, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Imagine some day kids needing to watch a movie, and pulling out the crumpled OLED sheet out of their pockets, which smooths nicely, and plays their movie. When they are done, they just shove it back in their pocket. Amazing where technology is going.

- unaicthus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet.
- bluemath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another thought... Why does it seem only the military is very intersted in this? Isn't there enough potential for this type of product in the "real" world? Just the thought of how thin and light this technology is, makes applications like cell phones sound great! Keep waiting!
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Universal Display's research has been funded in part by the US Department of Defense, and prototype displays have been provided to military research labs."
- Avisto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I see nothing on that page about a working prototype being demonstrated.
Its just marketing fluff.
Marked as innacurate. - portwojc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There site is nearly the same as it was two years ago. No digg.
When they set down a working prototype that rolls up like on their website then I'll digg it. - xamox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whatever, I could hack up an image in GIMP and tell everyone that I have some sweet display to try and impress investors. I did like the flexible display at CES though, I see a video clip of it and it's pretty cool. It only supported like 4 different colors and had an alright resolution but it's on the way.
-xamox.NET - HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Imagine books made of these things. The illustrations will be animated........and hey this is cool........You could have a book "unit" that you could upload text to.
So you'd plug your book up to the computer, download the contents of a book to it, then be able to read the thing in bed or on the toilet. Imagine if the public library had a website with a download feature that would allow you to "check out" these books online, and then they'd erase themselves after the normal checkout period.
I mention the erase feature because it would keep the libraries relevant, and I think that keeping the library as the source would be a good idea. Otherwise you'd have every ass-clown out there editing classics to fit their political agendas and redistributing them. - unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heard about OLED's in 2002
how do i invest in this technology?
is this all they developed? Foleds? Woleds? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Every time I hear the words "full motion video" I have to wonder: What is partial motion video?
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fudgebrown - thanks for pulling out the video link. There seems to be about a one-second clip of the flexible display in action. Frustrating as hell, since you have to wait through several minutes of the worst marketing video EVER to see it.
Either they don't realise the importance of this technology, or it doesn't actually exist yet. - chairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IT'S A DRAWING! A DRAWING! You can't demonstrate a drawing, you dolts.
- tocksin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"An artist's rendering of the ultimate portable communication device"
screw hype. (a.k.a. spam in this circumstance) how about you show an actual prototype. - brianvan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My picture of the whole OLED/flexible cheap display thing:
While eating breakfast, you don't just see a missing child picture on the milk carton. You see a rotation of about 100 children, like the Soul Asylum video.
I don't know why that's in my head, I think it's because someone used that example one of the very first times I heard about this sort of thing being released.
Anyway, we're getting closer to that day. - sremick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why does it seem only the military is very intersted in this? Isn't there enough potential for this type of product in the "real" world?"
Have you seen the new budget? The military are the only ones with any money these days. - fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Universal Display Corporation is part of the United States Display Consortium and they are attending the Flexible Displays and Microelectronics Conference (FEBRUARY 7-9, 2006).
