- dweeb79, on 07/03/2009, -1/+22Is anyone having jitter issues with flash?
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -2/+20I've Googled the crap out of this, but someone here might be able to help me. In Firefox 3.5:
When I middle-click a singular tab (the only tab open in a window) to close it, is there any way for it to behave like Firefox 3.0 where it turns that tab to about:blank and blanks the contents of the current page? Setting *.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTabClosed (?) to false ***** all sorts of things up... - Neiby, on 07/03/2009, -4/+20Switch to IE? Try version 6. It freaking rocks.
- tekhna, on 07/03/2009, -4/+20I love it. Except that video eats my processor on OS X until I have to force quit firefox. Not too happy about that.
- TVarmy, on 07/03/2009, -0/+11There's also Geolocation, which might end up being something really useful if you mostly go places with a lot of wifi hotspots or you have a GPS unit inside or communicating with your laptop (very likely), and assuming developers come up with good uses for it.
- roxgod666, on 07/03/2009, -1/+11Ughh, almost every comment here is somebody bitching about something stupid about the browser like them removing a dotted line or Google Chrome being 3% faster.
- thoand, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9The article did not say it is the fastest browser.
- riz94107, on 07/03/2009, -1/+10I loved FF 3.5 until it decided to eat all available CPU (OSX) twice within a few minutes - the honeymoon lasted about a day. I'm sure I'll be back eventually, but...
- Asten77, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8I just wish they'd solve the stupid extension compatibility issue. I'd like Mozilla to implement a policy where they won't break addon compatibility on minor version revs. 2->3 or 3->4, great. 3.0->3.5, no... just no.
- stereosaurus, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8about:config ->browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab = false
Not sure if this is the same you were trying (the name is just slightly different), but I can verify it works for me (Windows 7 RC1) - inactive, on 07/03/2009, -3/+10What I hate the most about 3.5 is that now I don't get the dotted line when I click on tabs the second time. :( I'm slowly starting to lose the reflex of clicking the open tab a second time...
- radish01001, on 07/03/2009, -2/+9Flash has a bad memory leak that makes videos get progressively worse the longer they play. Adobe knows this, and has no timeline for when it'll be fixed. ***** flash... I've had nothing but problems with it this past year in firefox, putting it on par with quicktime which is laughable.
- vdog, on 07/03/2009, -0/+7You can have it now, if you don't mind a development build (stable for me thus far). They're available from the developer's site http://tmp.garyr.net/dev-builds/ tab_mix_plus-0.3.7.4pre.090516.xpi is the latest.
- Gunbard, on 07/03/2009, -0/+7http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9864
The latest development build works great with it. - bobdigi, on 07/03/2009, -1/+7Ahh yes, 400ms is such a long ass time GOD.
- kekoa543, on 07/03/2009, -1/+7You can still get it if you right click and left click the tab at the same time.
- Sabretou, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Uninstall, install 3.0.
- ziggotron, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Only grouch I have with it is that it reloads tabs that you pull out, horrible when you want to pull out a tab with a streaming video.
- Retrospekt, on 07/03/2009, -3/+7I crashed just a little while ago. I never crashed in 3.0
- armo, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4I never really used that, I just ctrl+tab or alt+1,2,3...
- Firespray1138, on 07/03/2009, -1/+5Here I was thinking my Firefox was bugged or something, really pissed that I can't switch tabs with my right and left arrows anymore.
- adremali, on 07/03/2009, -1/+56. multi-touch gestures!
- Charlie1er, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3I'm I the only one to have some important issues with it on OSX? I really wanted to give it a chance. I got frustrated after a couple of "non-working link" and videos (on flash) that gets stuck... and got back on Safari 4. Safari stays the best on OS X.
- Giever, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3It seems there's lot of little annoying things like that which I can't tell are bugs or "features".
One, for instance, which has been bugging me. My mouse arrow doesn't "load" anymore when Firefox is loading a page. It just stays the same pointer the whole time without the glowy blue loading circle (on Vista/Win7). - Neiby, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3I don't think 3.5 has hung once for me and I've been using it on three different computers for a few weeks.
- Biscuitz, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3*has not had a single issue yet* Mind you all that I am on XP. *shrugs*
Also, have not had any issues on my laptop which holds Ubuntu 9 - CDNChaoZ, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Hmm, I guess I'll wait for 3.51 or something.
- MyMainMan, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Love most things already mentioned in the article and here (except for that a few important plugins don't work for it at the moment).
But one thing I appreciate also is the "open new tab" button that is there, even when there is only one tab when I open up the browser. No need to reach for CTRL+T when leaning back relaxed and just using the mouse and it works when the gets filled up, as opposed to the old "cliking in the empty space(Which also couldn't be used if just one tab was open in 3.0). - jaxter2010, on 07/03/2009, -4/+6I have the same problem on Win7.
- Depthfunction, on 07/03/2009, -3/+5One reason it sucks: the jquery bug. I've suffered 3 browser crashes in two days.
- HonoredMule, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2When I finished removing the egg from my face I realized you were talking about the tabs. I have, however, looked for themes that improve tab appearance/usability, but they pretty much don't touch them while doing a lot to screw up other UI elements and icons that are already very clean, functional, and well-presented.
Something that does help the tabs a lot is using TMP to alter the background shades of the tabs in various states to something more consistent with your desktop and also clearer and more distinctive (i.e. no more confusion between selected tab and highlighted tab, nor between tabs and other UI elements). - winry, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2#1 is css3 for me
- Ymeg, on 07/03/2009, -2/+4You can it it by crtl-l and tabing to it. Not sure if they purpously removed it, but it is irritating.
- DocHoliday22, on 07/03/2009, -1/+33.5 is eating my CPU on Flash content and some videos...
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I need to have a home and refresh button for some reason. I dont like the simplistic interface of chrome. I'll wait 400ms to have the features I need. Also mouse gestures and greesemoney work best with FF.
- mike56wood, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Firefox 3.5 has been out for barely two days - but an update is already being planned for later this month. http://blog.internetnews.com/skerner/2009/07/firef ...
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2An obvious use for it is Google Maps, along with sites for finding local events, local news, local deals or other local content. Imagine a person who travels automatically getting useful information for wherever they happen to be, without having to do any manual work. Come to think of it, Google News can already display local news if given a zip code. They could add a "smart location" section or something.
Also, the geolocation feature is able to fall back on the IP address if no other location info is available. - jakerandell, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Yeah same here. There is no reason why a browser should slow down a 2.66 quad core i7 machine with 8 gigs of ram. Back to Safari.
- Sabretou, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Five Reasons Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Rocks
Mozilla Firefox 3.5 rocks. Here is an article about Mozilla Firefox 3.5's new features that you can find anywhere on the Internet in two clicks, but we decided to write any way because we desperately need hits and could not think of anything better before lunchtime. - Neiby, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3I didn't even know that was possible, so I guess I don't miss it.
- expertsSEO, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2It hangs for me as well more than it used to earlier.
- deadsoldier, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I love my Firefox to bits, and i cant live without my extensions now..
but 3.5 still cant pass the Acid3 test? 93/100? - Gizza, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Get tab mix plus. It has an option to disable closing the window when the last tab is closed. Along with a whole heap of other features such as middle-clicking the blank space on the tab bar to re-open closed tabs, and loading bars on the tabs etc. It's always the first extension I install.
You might need to go to the forums to get the latest dev version that works with 3.5 though. http://tmp.garyr.net/dev-builds/ - expertsSEO, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Crashed for me as well 3-4 times till now :(
- MushinVin, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I think cell phones will make the most use of that in the future, with smart phones that can browse the web easily readily available now, it's bound that future phones will make great use of it. Considering that the Palm Pre's apps can be coded in HTML, I think we'll see some interesting uses of geolocation in the coming weeks/months/years.
- expertsSEO, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3It hangs for me more than it used to be before updating it. Its a routine to see it hanged while my work as soon as I open more than 10 tabs or two browser windows . :( , sometimes I need to open more than 25-30 tabs .. It starts sucking then :(
I love FireFox for many reasons but when it comes to speed (and when lots of javascript is on use) I prefer Chrome. - expertsSEO, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1working much better now :-)
- expertsSEO, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1hmm so they found out some flaws again :P
