- dodger2020, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We did not "JUST" start "podcasting." "Podcasting" is NOT new. The only thing "new" about it is the fact that somebody decided that prerecorded radio show just wasn't cool enough for them so they had to create a new term. People have been recording their own radio shows and making them available on the net since the net has been around. The same with "blogs." Blogs are nothing new. It's just that journal or diary wasn't catchy enough so some asshat pulled a new term from his hole and the clueless masses picked up on it like it was some new wonderous creation. Man, now I know how my parents felt when we started saying dude, rad, bitchin' etc.
- goosedotnu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We JUST started podcasting on Earth, and they're ALREADY doing it in space. Shortest ever duration between invention on Earth and use in space.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, enough. Podcasting is an exciting new thing. It gives regular joes the ability be heard and the best part is the ones that suck get ignored and the ones that dont get some attention. But "podcasting" doesn't exist. It's just recording audio, usually in MP3 or AAC format, and making it available to a very wide audience.
Podcasting is a hype word that I hope goes away soon. - RadicalEdward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very sorry about the multiple post, i will check better next time. i saw the article and just kinda rushed to get it over here for you all.
- trex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This isn't a podcast since there's no RSS feed.
Podcasting = Audio + RSS
The only difference between a podcast and a plain old audio file is that podcast are "pushed" to you if you subscribe to the RSS feed. For normal audio files, you need to check when there is a new episode or update (i.e. "poll" the website).
I have no qualms with the term "podcast," though the name doesn't correspond with the meaning. - JustKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I dugg this first 3 hours before this digg... http://digg.com/science/Podcast_From_Space_
People realy need to check for previous stories before posting!"
I guess
First Podcast From Space!
Worked better then
Podcast From Space! - x2jag2x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool stuff. Anything NASA, I digg.
- ender78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How can people NOT find this cool! First Podcast from outside the Planet !
Does this mean that this was actually recorder directly to the iPod and if so in space ? How many iPods/Powerbooks have been in orbit ? - spunkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Flogin Molly, a nifty feature of digg.com is the ability to use search. The author of this digg obviously doesn't know how to search.
I suggest: http://www.google.com/support - deanau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*two days before landing...
BTW: You do know podcasts are not limited to Apple products...don't you? - next, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bitched about the term podcasting, that is, until someone asked me to come up with a better name. And they have a point, there isn't much to call it without coming up with some ridiculous blog related name like 'blogcasting', as salmonmoose suggested.
Ironically, I'd rather have my internet radio shows named after one of the best mp3 players on the market than have another moronic blog related term coined. Besides, I think calling it podcasting was a brilliant move. It made Apple want to jump on the bandwagon, seeing as it was named after their product, and it's allowed a much broader audience (70% of the mp3 player market) to have direct access to podcasts through iTunes.
If not for the name 'podcast', I doubt that it would be as popular or as accessible as it has become.
And we wouldn't have had ABC news there to grab beer for the diggnation guys. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mushoo, we dont need a term for "podcasting". What's wrong with "here's my show, download it" or "subscribe to my show".
- ColdChilli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the term 3Cast. It doesnt endorse Apple, and it doens't make it seems like you have to have an iPod. I use iRiver myself.
- lnstigator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see what all the hubub is about podcasting from space. After all, we did aquire the technology from aliens when they landed at Roswell so long ago.
Podcasting from space... I suppose next we'll cheer that they use toilets like the rest of us. Gimme a break. - dhoefler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0rtphokie
I couldn't have said it better myself. - don613, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"We JUST started podcasting on Earth, and they're ALREADY doing it in space. Shortest ever duration between invention on Earth and use in space."
Usually, it's the other way around. Things are invented for NASA and are later incorporated for use on earth. NASA is a little behind the times on this one. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my ipod isnt a fashion item.
look at the case:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007YWIWC.01-A1VC38T7YXB528.LZZZZZZZ.jpg - mushoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok if you hate so much the term podcasting, give us a better alternative than recorded radio shows from the internet.
- RadicalEdward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's a podcast merely because nasa said so. so deal with it. stop complaining over what the h**l they call the d**n thing. geez
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Ok if you hate so much the term podcasting, give us a better alternative than recorded radio shows from the internet."
I prefer 'blogcast' simply because it doesn't reference a PMP that's more of a fashion item :) - iWorks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll have to digg up the info, but i'm quite sure this isn't the first... I heard a podcast a few months back with the crew on the space station... it was regular phone interview, recorded and then posted on on the "space" related podcasts.
- Lindsay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool podcast. I'll have to pass this onto my aerospace enginner-fiance.
- Glutnix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Cool! NASA
