- JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29And the verdict is?........... They are exactly the same films!!!!!!!!
.. Maybe you could post a hardware review? - natemc, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29$28.95 MSRP on the movies, kinda far from your $40 price point. I've never paid MSRP on any product in the last 10 years of my life, most stores sell below MSRP.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Don't you guys remember when DVDs came out and they cost near the same?
Just let the whole HD wars die off first then go with the victor. - tofufever, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19I've seen blu-ray movies at the Home Entertainment Show and I've come to this conclusion. The technology is amazing but the fault of the movies is not in the technology but in the filmmaker. Filmmaker's intentionally blurr out parts of the frame with the narrow depth of field to enhance the narrative aspect. But what happens when you have blurred parts of the frame in HD? It's just one large blurry image, nothing enhancing the HD. I saw all the movies they had on display there and the only movie that looked amazing was Chicken Little and since every scene in Chicken Little was in focus, everything looked amazing. But if you're watching House of Flying Daggers and the cinematographer blurr's the background, you won't notice the high resolution because it's all blurred without the detail.
- mdshort, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Or Alien Revolution.. nothing like sigorney weaver naked in HD!
(Mod me down if that qualifies as being perverted.) - scairborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The guy that reviewed the Fifth Element wrote a piece of ***** review. All I wanted to know what how was the quality of the visual and audio experience. Not for this hack to try and show off his writing skills by bitching about the plot of the movie. I mean Holy ***** this movie is almost 10 years old! I know the ***** plot! Just give me the details I want by visiting a site about Blu-Ray!
- bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oh yea, well HD blur looks far superior to standard-definition blur. So nah.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey!... Excellent!!!
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12the titles havent even been released properly yet, but they are already selling for $19-25.

where did you pull that $40 figure from? MSRP is ~$29 at amazon. if you are going to argue about paying $40 for something you can buy for as low as $19, you probably deserve to pay that much. - thehigherlife, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8sony doesn't choose which movies are released
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9watch a movie in SD then watch it in HD and tell me you can go back to watching movies you SD. You can't. It looks better, it sounds better and the HD DVDs that have been released also come with even more extras. Win win if you ask me.
Chip- - levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10That blu ray logo is quite similar to Halo in some ways. hmmm. Dugg
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11You mean DVR and on-demand?
- Disease, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Cool, I can see Leeloo in high definition =D
- happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Well the Toshiba A1 is a great player AFTER the 2 minutes it takes to turn it on and start a movie.
- happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Really, cause the review rated all three movies poorly based on video quality.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Memento in HD? I'm in. Great movie, much better than anything reviewed here.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sorry to tell you this but I really doubta two-minute boot time is the kind of thing a firmware update will be able to fix - that is more like a fundamental problem with the design of that system.
They may be able to fix lags or small delays in other parts of the system, but the startup time is probably not going to imrpove that much. - DesEagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3At least he audio was sounding great...that's always good to hear! (no pun intended)
But I believe the video issues can be resolved within a few months. Even if it looks amazing, it can always look better, and that's something I expect to be fixed within the short future. By the time I'm livin' large with my PS3, I should also be able to watch some very nice looking movies to boot...
Now only if Sony can work on getting Star Wars and LotR on BluRay...then the format war would be over. - rileyjt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Agreed. This article reviews a movie that is 10 years old. Its just silly for it to be on the first page.
- pinnette, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5First of all, HD DVD players thus far are only capable of 1080i but there are 1080p HD DVD players scheduled to be released. Second, most HDTVs aren't 1080p capable anyway. I've read reviews of some that are supposed to be and are on the high end but still don't quite make it. You can find those at cnet.com.
- caser85, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Dude you don't get it. An HDTV movie is higher quality and therefore takes up more space. The 25GB+ is needed for the movie, not just extras.
- shortkid422, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15Darn, no V for Vendetta
- (.)(.), on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd love to see RoboCop in HD. It might be too old though.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The reviews were there but they were on the upper right hand side leftie.
- caser85, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5My price point is $200. I'm hoping the HD-DVD add-on for 360 is around that price, if so I'm buying it.
HD-DVDs are already selling for $20 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E5KJCU/ref=amb_link_1415642_/102-6526505-7012157?n=130).
The only thing we all have to be nervous about is that the format you choose will die off, which sucks. The advantage HD has over SD though is worth it to me. - prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -16/+18"I've never paid MSRP on any product in the last 10 years of my life"
So you don't own any game console then? - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Uncompressed audio anyone?
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6If you read the HD-DVD reviews they all seem to be Hits while the Sony releases are just OK. With the $1000 difference in price $1500 vs $500, I think I'm partial to HD-DVD.
- prismra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm all for free-market economy and capitalism but they should have settled on one damn format. Damn you Sony. This is totally lame for the consumer. It may be a better idea to wait and see if the licensing BS can be worked out so we can get a dual format player..for $100. Yeah, I'm cheap.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Maybe this would be interesting, if the movies didn't suck. The only good one is The fifth element. Seriously, I know they could find something better than xXx.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Revolution was like a shiny beacon of happy goodness next to the horror that was Aliens 3. And by Horror I don't mean the genre, I mean the hurting in my head.
Sure Revolution was no Alien 1 or 2, but it had other points that made it interesting. - caser85, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I thought the same thing. Every home theater buff starts by watching Fifth Element. This dillweed is reviewing the movie like it just came out. You actually have to read down through half of his article to get to his visual impression.
- DirtyCash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This HD war just started and i have already lost interest.
My plan is also to wait until the dust settles along with the prices. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And crack HDCP
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7More like Aliens(the 2nd).
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what a cool name !
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a really much more interesting review of the player itself:
http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsung_BD_P1000/4505-6463_7-31799185-2.html?tag=nav
An interesting bit of trivia from that review is that every player also comes with a copy of Memento, which is kind of cool. - supes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Personally I’m liking HD-DVD, Warner Bros. appears to be releasing the some of the better films from their library. Sony’s choice to release the 5th element as one of their “launch titles” just doesn’t sit well with me, but again they are just getting started.
In all honesty both formats will most likely be in my home. I own a 360 & plan on buying the HD-DVD add-on. I also plan on buying the PS3 as well. With that said I’m holding out till I can see the same movie in both formats side by side, once I can do that then I will make my choice as to which format I choose to support. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Although meant to be funny I think the comment is kind of true since the contrast between in-focus and out-of-focus parts of an image would be more noticable in HD.
What that does also mean is that the film maker may not have been careful enough with DOF when filiming and so parts that shoudl appear enitrley sharp may not look so with an HD display. I've not seen an example of that though, it's just a thought. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I'm glad blu-ray enables you to watch a piece of ***** movie like XXX, Underworld, and 50 First Dates in hi def. TOTALLY worth every penny.
Seriously, got anymore blockbuster titles for release soon? - Lacero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Links:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/xxx.html - czack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2maybe it was dugg because, hence the title, the link was to a page where you could read reviews in blu ray movies, not buy items. Try looking in upper right hand corner for the 3 bluray reviews.
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4looks like sony just may have pulled a finger out its ass and did something right. still ill wait till next year for the ps3 and get a game console and a br player for alot less than $1000 stand alone unit.
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's better but it costs more. That isn't automatically a win-win.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i really didnt get anything from these reviews.to me the reviewer was more concerned with flexing his 20/20 vision and his writing skills than giving a real review of the product.i was looking for a comparison with current dvd technology.i can careless how soft this idiot thinks vin diesel is.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Really want to see a bald Natalie Portman?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Last I checked, HD-DVD couldnt do more than 1080i. Blu-Ray can do 1080p. I think a Key Factor will be HDCP. Mosst HDTV owners, including myself dont have HDCP TVs. Until there is a way to circumvent that with some hardware or upgrade current televisions, I dont care, because I cannot use any of this since I dont have HDCP. Sure, the first few movies to come out will be non-HDCP. But knowing the MPAA, once its got everybody hooked to one format, they will just make HDCP mandatory to all upcoming movies.
Also, about the price. Seems like Sony is purposely trying to make the other companies up the price to the PS3 will be considered a cheap Blu-Ray player - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Sure Revolution was no Alien 1 or 2, but it had other points that made it interesting"
It wasn't even an Alien "4"... the real title is Resurrection. - pabster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3So, let me sum it up.
There's little, if any, difference from the DVD versions of these films. They cost more, and the player required to view them costs A LOT more.
Now bend over and let Sony get you up the ass. -
