- mikesay98, on 10/11/2007, -3/+66Companies' main goals are profit. When a company's website does not support Firefox, they're only screwing themselves. It amazes me how many sites are not supported or have even minor issues with Firefox, when it's one of the most-used browsers in the world. I can't tell you how many times I've had problems (even small ones) and said screw it and just left the site. But their loss...I love my FF!
- Lion29, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36And Slovenia is again in the top with nearly half users using Firefox!
These days I am proud to be Slovenian! - Easty, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39They've always been at war with Eurasia.
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21True, too many websites have IE css and html-rendering workarounds built into the code. I usually build and test websites in fireFox then work out how to make hateful IE (spit) work.
- aviano2004, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19Hungary rocks! Good on them for such a dramatic increase in Firefox users.
- bunnyhop45, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20How much is Ballmer paying you?
- jacks77, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Australia, NZ
- jbhannah, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Most Asian web traffic is from cell phones. Almost guaranteed that's the only reason they're at the bottom, below even Africa.
- smurf22, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13I use netcat to get around. ASCII porn ftw!
- gaucho4, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15I've tried Opera a couple times and have just found it to be slow, relatively bloated, and incompatible with many sites. I don't particularly care for the UI either.
- oesj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10RTFA - europe is a close second (to oceania) in the break down of continents
- awesty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Australasia is Australia/Asia. Eurasia is Europe/Asia. Oceania is Australia, New Zealand and the few other islands down near us.
- GMorgan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You do realise that Europe has a larger broadband uptake than the US. Just checking.
- HyperJack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I thought it was called Australasia. Never mind though.
- irgeorge, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8err Hungary isn't a third world country, idiot.
- blubloblu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8It's the top 8
- estat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"Whats with that drop in the trend for North America?"
Not sure, but I think it could have been the release of IE7 or the use of IE on beta versions of Vista.
Thankfully, people realized IE still sucked and went back to FF. - mattprice, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Over here in the real world, most businesses can't go around and let their site show up badly just to protest against browsers not being standards compliant.
- K3ITHK, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Whats with that drop in the trend for North America?
- hfactor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I dugg him down because he types like a twelve-year-old.
- gaucho4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I would guess most people. Personally I go back and forth between Firefox, Safari, and OmniWeb.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7What's the point in having to get used to more than one? If I absolutely can't use Firefox then I have Opera installed, but I've used it about twice in the last several months for pages that just won't render properly in Fx.
- BevansDesign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I know I'm going to get dugg down for saying this, but standards be damned. Code for the biggest chunk of your audience. That's your standard. In most cases, that means coding for IE6, then IE7, then Firefox. I tend to ignore anything with less than 5% of the browser market.
People who insist that you code to standards are living in a fantasy world. None of the major browsers are 100% standards-compliant. - nnnet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6that is when MS release the IE7...
- bazzz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Remember folks, the european union has combined nearly 500 million inhabitants (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population). With a firefox market share close to or above 30% that simply means that some technological strategies from Microsoft like XAML (their browser-based rich client UIs) will not work there. Especially XAML is somehow nice but not an option if 30% of your users are locked out.
- insovietrussia, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Basically, Australia. That number would be pretty accurate too.
- nnnet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I thought terrorists use Firefox.. and Linux too.
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I think we have found the new FF marketing slogan
- jbhannah, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Most Asian web traffic is from cell phones. Almost guaranteed that's the only reason they're at the bottom.
The big drop in the North American share can only ever be attributed to millions of geeks and innocents alike realizing that yet another new release of Internet Explorer absolutely sucks. - oojamaflip2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Hello,
Thank you for directing me to your 'come to China' website for 'Foreign Barbarian Devils'. I was most impressed seeing the large and prominent Google AdSense adverts, which must help visitors to China find the services they need. - Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Pangea? Jesus man you're a ***** retard. Have you ever read 1984? It's Eastasia.
- RunningJay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It would be interesting to see if XiTi Monitor could do report on IE and compare the numbers to FF
- peranadigital, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3but still not particularly good
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I use only one broser firefox, but I have IE and safari for website testing. So in a sense, I use 3 browsers, but my day-to-day shopping, looking for porn, reading digg, writing emails stuff I just use firefox.
- danakin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Hmm. Let's see the geneology of Firefox: Mosaic gave birth to Netscape gave birth to Mozilla gave birth to Firefox. Who in there was involved in a large anti-Microsoft suit? Netscape. A descendant of Netscape, and such a strong opposition to IE, surely cannot be ripping off MS code.
- jbhannah, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Double post = sucky comment system's bad.
- t1m1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's why they have Silverlight, which basically is an incomplete implementation of XAML for other browser and OS.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Lynx.
- DariusMDeV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3IE can thank IT departments for killing them. My IT department at a semi-major university would not "sign off" on IE7 and blocked it being installed, and IE6 did not have the functions I required, so what does a guy who needs to upgrade from IE6 do when IE7 can't be installed? Firefox is what I use now and I don't ever see myself going back, I also switched to Firefox on my home computers cause I don't want to use 2 different browsers for work stuff. MS needs to really lean hard on IT departments to phase in their software quickly or they risk this happening and losing even more market share.
- ahac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Majority of internet users only know IE.
You can't say they prefer it when they never even heard about the alternatives. - kahrn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Indeed. By logic, Opera should probably be the most popular browser. Only problem with Opera is it isn't open sourced and it doesnt have the same extension capability as firefox.
I think Opera will end up taking over firefox in the future though. It's kinda inevitable when people start realizing that Firefox is still ruled by the organisation we all hated before - Mozilla. Not only that, but for most people they simply CANNOT run firefox as it's system requirements are too high for third world countries. Opera on the other hand runs relatively well on a Pentium I based system with 64mb or so ram.
I wish people would stand up and fix firefox and make it back into a browser that was lightweight. Nobody seems to care around digg and such as they are all lucky and have fast computers. But in the third world, and on grandma's computer firefox will _never_ be an option as a result of the ever increasing resource requirements. - arjie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Antarctica, what about them? What do the scientists use when they want to waste their satellite connections?
- sickanimations, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Us Oceanians are pretty leet. We have the highest BitTorrent users per capita (cbf referencing) and leading the way with Firefox uptake :)
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Here's the map from the original article:
http://www.xitimonitor.com/Images/etudes/fr-FR/firefox-200707-2.png - arjie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2To be honest, I prefer Firefox and Konqueror, but Firefox gets heard about much more. And as for Linux, most distributions come with a copy of Firefox. And so, on Linux, there's little reason to use Opera, when Firefox will work as well or better (except for forward/back, Opera does that so well)
- Nineless, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2mcmlxxii is using Linux. You can't use IE tab on Linux due to the fact that there's no IE for Linux. Hence why he uses WINE to run windows only programs like IE6.
- daftman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Balmer is asking for you. He's saying bend over.
- preved, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Where I work, we don't test our websites in Firefox.", it seems to be is a reason why "... among our customers it is a rarity."
- dsn0wman, on 10/11/2007, -21/+23Oceania keeps the lead at 28.9%
What the heck is Oceania? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania - fatas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Oceania has such a high intake but Mozilla has awful shipping prices for any of their like Tshirts.
