Umm, ok then. - Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Streets ahead? Am I the only one who thinks this makes no sense?
- FuManchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see the actual stats in the original study, too. I'm a non-IE user, but I doubt that a majority of European computers are using Mozilla.
BTW, Hana, in case you haven't found out yet, the reason people who are into tech don't like MS IE is that it IS NOT compliant with current W3C standards for HTML, XHTML or CSS. Instead of implementing international standards, they devised a proprietary bunch of fancy ***** that makes it easier to get viruses, trojans and godknowswhatelse. The fancy ***** is principally to make it "easier" for online merchants to track customers and display glitzy stuff on line.
On the other hand, as webmasters know, XHTML and CSS have been developing GREAT standards that make accurate placement of web-design features in small, tight markup. That makes webmasters' jobs easier, and browsers pages load faster. And many things previously only achievable by using Javascript or java programs can now be done without Java. Meaning ADDED SECURITY.
Firefox, Opera and Safari are W3C standards compliant browsers. Microsoft chooses to make webmasters' lives miserable and users' computers less secure.
That's why we hate MS IE.
See:
http://channels.lockergnome.com/news/archives/20040615_why_you_should_dump_internet_explorer.phtml - ghacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my website had 41,20% of all users using firefox / netscape in december. IE still at 52 %
- pintong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait, 1901 comments? Something doesn't seem right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4>I stopped using Firefox because I was sick of this crap
Yeah, thats a good reason to stop using a decent tool.
What a tard. - ptknight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"FIREFOX IS A BROWSER.
it does not suck your dick."
Mine does... Don't you have that extension? - TheTraveller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see that study, as it is very very unlikely that with a market share of 13% Firefox can be ahead in terms of usage. It also does not match with my own experience. I run a site with mostly young European audience, and Firefox/Mozilla steadily climbs but now accounts for about 26% of page views.
If anyone has a link to that AdTech study, please post in a comment - pjvdg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I run a PC repair shop here in Belgium. When spy ware is found, we remove it and after wards we install firefox. When the client comes to pick up their PC, they get a quick overview of what firefox is and what it can do. Oh, and we also 'inform' them to never ever use internet explorer, unless theirs absolutely no other way of accessing that particular site.

- MartyFinkle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When Microsoft releases WPF FireFox will become a footnote.
Sure Microsoft makes mistakes, but they always fix them unlike open Crap.
Enjoy Firefox while you can.
And as far as standards there is NO BROWSER that meets the standards. Opera is the closest. But that argument is old and tired, and MicroSoft doesn't need to follow standard the SET THEM. Like WPF.
This time next year Firefox will be toast.
(GO ahead flame, me but I'll have the last laugh.) - nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea, they really gotta fix that whole spame thing. but at least you can block users.

- howie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL, what is this, an attempt to get people to install Firefox with the Google toolbar from the site? ;)
"Mozilla's Firefox browser is now ahead of the Internet Explorer in terms of usage on European computers."
Er. Right. Firefox has more users on European computers? - judgeFire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Now I realize how small Europe is."
Yeah, just double the size of US, or 3.5 times the size, if you count in Russia. Still pales in comparison to China or India, absolutely.
J - csansbury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What was the story about...i'd forgotten by the time i got down here!
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0he's probably google spamming. Digg should use "rel='nofollow'" for linkified URLs in order to stop Google spammers.
- axcess99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, one thing to not think the story is inaccurate, but what's with the FireFox hate?
I personally that just like bio-diversity, diversity in software is a good thing. But in conjunction with open standards so they all work, but probably having differing vulnerabilities. That way software can better evolve and there is less likely to be a single cataclysmic exploit. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GO firefox go!
- blt93932, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I told my favorite German girls to use it.
- dombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone remember the link to the Firefox user base map, that showed how many users picked Firefox (in percentage) in a certain area of the World?
- SpookyET, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you mean to tell me that Digg does not have comment SPAM/flood protection? Geez. Kevin, fix it! Do you have any idea how much loading this many comments multiplied by n ammount of users on Digg resources?
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But can you *use* Firefox to make you a 1337 h4x0rz? Certainly.
- KorbenDallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0'Firefox is streets ahead of IE on European computers'
That's because Firefox makes it easier for the EU Data Retention Law. - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Will someone please write a script to rate all those comments as spam and post it for everyone to use I am to lazy to.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IDK i like firefox but it isnt that great i still use IE SP1 >< sometimes and then i started using opera but i like ff ui much better

- rolypolyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh, Perkins? Can you come here a second?
What are you doing developing for this Foxfire thing?
Let me tell you why we need you to work with IE.
If you haven't looked at our mission statement, our core growth is targeting our E-tailers. If you can facilitate this and do a little team building here, we'll all be on the same page.
Okay? - dareiff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When you say web developers might stop making IE only extensions, or whatever it was, I'm too lazy to scroll up, you probably mean to say 100% firefox compatible browsers... Which means....
FIREFOX will then be targeted by the adware/spyware people, and then someone else will make a new browser.. and it will go on and on.. - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0^ very nice. Finally, someone who explained it and didn't just say "M$ Internet Exploder SUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx"

What is an "IE only extension"?
Do you mean designers should make Firefox only designs, so the IE audience will be as excluded as Firefox users now are? Great idea. How about we embrace diversity and allow all people to use which browsers they like. But encourage people to use browsers which abide by web standards and aren't as susceptible to spyware/ adware. That is a great idea. - Plezops, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0microsoft should start making IE more like Firefox
- davecruz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Way to prove that anyone can right a simple script asshat...
