Memory issues. - bitterg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Life would be perfect if Firefox could run tabs in multiple prcocess instances. Firefox is pretty stable for me, but it would be nice if one tab didn't crash the entire browser when it went down. IE has this but I don't know if it works for tabs.
- pineapples10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11So would a built in word processor, doesnt mean it should be included in the bone-stock version though. This is why there are extensions!
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It's a Foundation. Mostly the Mozilla Store, and they have a bunch of cash they got from AOL when it was spun off as the Mozilla Foundation. Also, Google apparently pays 'em a whole bunch to be the default search engine.
- rolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Split Screen Option (choose any two tabs) - I'd like to be able to display two websites side by side, often for data entry.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10PDF's aren't native in Firefox, so it's not Firefox's fault.
Digg me down if you want, but I hate lusers like i440 who shift the blame to the wrong place. - Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@kriz:
Actually.... "In contrast to most commercial organizations, the Mozilla Corporation is not motivated by a desire for profit, reinvesting all profits back into the Mozilla projects. The Mozilla Corporation aims to work towards the Mozilla Foundation's public benefit goals of "preserving choice and innovation on the Internet."" -from the article you linked to. - Sutoka, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Every time you do a search in Firefox using the google search bar, the Mozilla Corporation gets some money from Google.
- blakis21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That is already a option
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I want innovations in the browser to come as innovations to XHTML. For example, I'd like a TEXTAREA tag that would default to WYSIWYG (or as close approximation as can be expected). It would be great if I could specify an EXCLUSION or INCLUSION attribute, to indicate which tags are allowed in the field. This would allow me to get rid of the very high overhead of the JavaScript HTMLArea implementations.
Also, I'd like to display images at angles. An attribute such as ANGLE="50" would be great.
The box model for CSS could use an extension. Optionally, I would like to build a page fully relative -- a box width or positioning would be relative to the containing box. Right now the box model allows for things to flow outside of the box. This gives us weirdness such as 2 or 3 column layouts that do not push down the footer, so people have to create wrappers and such.
I'd like better transparency options in CSS, too. Right now the transparency seems to affect more than is desired -- you might want to make a background transparent, only to discover that the text that is part of the box becomes transparent too. Fine-grained control would be an improvement.
Essentially, we appear to want browser innovation to come from the chrome. What happened to innovation in the page? - strebalicious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I need a filter to block out all the non-porn sites. They are just a waste of porn space.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@shineynew,
Firefox 2 is in late RC mode so it is too late to do such radical changes now. It is nowhere near as simple as i440 wants you to believe. All of the memory leak patches that haven't caused stability problems are in Firefox 2 anyway so you don't have to wait.
If the leaks bother everyone that much, why not try coding and contributing patches for them instead of complaining? Not so easy now, is it? - picardo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can always open two browsers half the width of your screen to do that. The real problem is the content of a web page is often coded with the assumption that everybody will use a computer monitor to display it.
When you split the screen, you get only a glimpse of the issue. Most pages don't accomodate it well. But try accessing the same pages using a cellphone or any other non-traditional gadget and you realize the extent of the issue, and maybe it's not the browser but the websites that need to improve.
My two cents. - psilanthropist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@BigGeek:
totally agree. get the pdf download extension and either ask it to open the pdf in your OS default viewer or just ask it to convert to html and view it. - Kriz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Corporation
Mozilla isn't just a couple guys writing free software to make the world a better place, you know. It's a nice dream to think that a non-profit organization works so hard to "topple evil Microsoft's browser monopoly" (sarcasm, hur hur), but they are also in the business of making money. - winmac96, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@psilanthropist
don't make assumptions that Ffx3 devs are not watching this thread on Digg.
But you're correct, feature requests for Ffx3 should be placed in proper Mozilla feedback forums... - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How does Firefox make money?
- Dawnspire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You shouldnt be using opera as a torrent client, try utorrent or azureus, most trackers block opera, thats why 'nobody has stuff you want'
- zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He means a regular click will automatically open in a tab, not only links that open a new window.
I agree this would be nice, but only with the option to set it to the next tab over (and not at the very end of the tabs, I usually have a few open at a time.) - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mvent2
firefox 2 isnt even _fully_ out yet, so i dont think we should have to wait untill firefox three to be able to keep firefox running as long as we want it to without haveing to restart it. - jole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While useful, perhaps that would be a worthwhile ffox extension, not a feature. After all I'm sure we would all want performance improvements, and little things that could easily be added through extensions isn't going to help performance in any way.
- archlich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3force new windows in tabs, it's called tab mix plus

--Mozilla Dev Team. - strcmp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This one is easy: a "private browsing" feature à la Safari. In case you've never used Safari, this allows you to begin a session where "...webpages are not added to the history, items are automatically removed from the Downloads window, information isn't saved for AutoFill (including names and passwords), and searches are not added to the pop-up menu in the Google search box. Until you close the window, you can still click the Back and Forward buttons to return to webpages you have opened."
This is extremely useful and is not just for porn, ya sick freaks. - Tordenflesk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"but the team is already making plans for 3.0."
So minefield is just something I'm imagining? 3.0's been out for ages. - BamB00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a better download manager with native resume support
by the way sometimes I want both websites on the front, so is it possible to drag the tag out and have it as a separate window? - mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"IE6 or 7 (I don't remember precisely which one) technically has fewer security vulnerabilities then Firefox"
The severity of these flaws is what usually matters more. IE has unpatched extremely critical flaws ( http://secunia.com/advisories/21910/ ) whereas Firefox's most severe unpatched flaw is rated less critical ( http://secunia.com/product/4227/ ). Why on Earth Microsoft embedded the web browser into the OS, I have no clue... - pineapples10, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7The goddamn memory leak, jesus christ
- HHarrelson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah!

We can't file a bug in bugzilla. Do you know why? Because the memory leak problem is a huge problem that was addressed by Mozilla and is officially "it's not a bug, it's a feature."
If Mozilla wants to be the best web browser around, they need to stop doing what so many product leaders like Microsoft do and fix the problems, not just ignore them and pretend like they're not there. If Mozilla could be as quick as Opera, it'd be the best browser bar none, but until then, it has things like the memory leak problem, which has been known about for AGES, and they still haven't come up with a solution. - Solan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fix the memory issues, startup speed and overall sluggishness of the browser when multiple tabs are open BEFORE adding any new features!!!
- Thequestion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stop spamming. You just moved from spammer to troll in my view. I'm blocking you like food in my constipated uncle.
- webphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfortunatly no, IE6 had less known security flaws sometime near the start of this year (I think) but yeah I'm just going from memory here. But I am using firefox cause really who cares that much about a few more insecurities. If someone wants to ***** your system up they will find a way eventually
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ah ok, thanks for the info.
- Lobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Smaller more efficient code would be welcome.
I am using Seamonkey which uses the same engine and is smaller. I would also like to some key plug ins developed by the Firefox team. So for example installing Flash or java or codex (when required) is even easier.
It is not what you add on. It is what works. Make it work better.
The marketing team are the great success.
Maybe they can turn their attentions to Open Office or Wine or Reactos? - psilanthropist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@MaxxIsCool:
yeah i heard some of the inbuilt COUGH *security* COUGH features are pretty great too. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2every time you use the built in search bar you generate them a little cash
-wolf - icefitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want the download actions dialog to be use able. If a plugin sets an action for me to remove it i have to change the action first then click remove. It should be able to remove and item right away and it should also be able to remove multiple items at once.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I want the Safari 3.0 "Drag window to tab" and "Drag Tab from Window" features.
- arg553, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why would you want that as the default? the type of surfing most people do would leave you with a gazillion tabs open at the end of the session, making the tabs pointless for use in navigation.
- ABombbmoBA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'd like to be able to right-click a picture and have a "Send to Photobucket" option!
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"So would a built in word processor,"
At least built in support for ODF would be nice... - bhalo05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would like the Linux version to not suck. Until then, I'm sticking with Konqueror.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0“If someone wants to ***** your system up they will find a way eventually”
Always, always true, unless you are a hacker yourself can /very effectively/ thwart off attacks. Then again, there are probably much better users of hackers' time then attempting to compromise a residential desktop computer -
