No one is paid a fixed rate for any image submissions (you need to get votes to make any money). Some quick math shows that assuming every paying member uses their 5 votes per month Zivity pays out $4 of the $10 monthly fee... to the people who provide the entire reason to go to the site. If there are 10,000 users all paying and using all their votes there is a total of $10,000 (10,000 users * 5 votes * $0.20 per vote) to be split between every photographer who submits to the site for a month. If a site were to have 10,000 paying customers you could assume that it would have a large gallery and hence have a lot of photographers and models. Meanwhile Zivity brings in $60,000 revenue for themselves for the month. (the models get to split $30,000).
Don't say anything about "Zivity has to cover costs, so they need more money". Photographers and models have to covers costs too. I don't know what makes me more sick, the people who create these sites and exploit photographers or the photographers who are willing to sell the entire profession short for a $10 a month check.

- SkylarEC, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1It might not show, but I do agree with you 100%. But there's just something tells me that the kind of professionals who seek out professional work and fair pay are not the same photographers who will be posting pictures to this site.
Similar to YouTube: I don't think that anybody will be expecting professional grade work here, although I'm sure some fine pieces of work will be found. I believe that the majority of the people who will be posting will be hobbyists; and why not let them earn a little bit of cash. If their work proves popular enough, it might just encourage them to seek more work from the clients who recognize what a photo shoot entails and who will pay them fairly.
