Filesharing site Rapidshare shutdown by antipiracy officials

openpresswire.com — On January 19th, 2008 anti-piracy officials from the organization GEMA (society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights) has obtained from the District Court in Cologne temporary injunctions against the operator of the data exchange services www.rapidshare.de and www.rapidshare.com. Only RapidShare.com is currently shut down.

    Unfortunately, starting at 5 pm CET, one of our carriers experienced a severe technical problem with their hardware, causing a loss of 50 gigabit of bandwidth. Therefore RapidShare was unavailable for several hours. We already have taken steps to avoid this particular problem in the future.

  • p0tent1al, on 01/20/2008, -0/+2Yeah so I was at my desktop, downloading like 50 files through my download manager from rapidshare, log on to Digg, and see something about Rapidshare being shut down. It is not shut down at all, I'm downloading files as we speak.

    And even if they were shutdown, no one would even care. All uploaders would just switch to MegaUpload. Nothing to see here.

    I can't imagine how much pirated material is on this site in general, considering they have like what, 7 petabytes of data?

  • p0tent1al, on 01/20/2008, -1/+1It may have costed money to enjoy all the benefits, but it is the best file share out, with the best downloads. On top of that, 100 times faster than using torrents. Nothing comes close to it (other than torrents that is). Only one that comes close is Megaupload, and no one really uploads to that site.
