- banmaster, on 04/27/2008, -1/+86Why oh why is ANYBODY still using Limewire!?
- Wkall, on 04/27/2008, -3/+74uTorrent it's the simplest there is. LimeWire I don't know from where it downloads, Azures eats RAM and the others are bulky
- Jenadae, on 04/27/2008, -4/+64Not enough seeders :(
- manacit2, on 04/27/2008, -2/+52Dosen't suprise me, uTorrent is small, easy to use, and requires no install. Limewire on the other hand is slow, etc, and when people get caught downloading illegally, it's with limewire most of the time, which I'm sure drives people away.
- yoseres, on 04/27/2008, -1/+46uTorrent can easily be installed on a cheap flash drive and become extremely portable
- gadgetlust, on 04/27/2008, -0/+40Azureus used to be great, until they pulled this whole bloated "Azureus Vuze" BS.
- Slices, on 04/27/2008, -2/+41Sometimes, I wish peace could spread as rapidly as torrents : - But I guess peace is underrated, these days!
- Llanowar, on 04/27/2008, -3/+34Why not? You can get any movie/porn vid/mp3/program/etc you want within a very small file size. Often under 100kb, so quick to download!
- cowboy77061, on 04/27/2008, -7/+35Transmission is also good, for you Mac and Linux users.
- Snottlebocket, on 04/27/2008, -2/+29No kidding, Utorrent is the only app I could find that isn't loaded with ads or worse. When all you want to do is transfer data you don't need something that looks like a startrek console with an adware infestation.
- Marumekomu, on 04/27/2008, -1/+24I use Deluge. It's awesome. Very similar to uTorrent; I admit the main reason for switching for me initially was because uTorrent was bought up, but I like that Deluge is open-source and very extensible as well.
http://deluge-torrent.org/ - urgan, on 04/27/2008, -6/+28Remember uTorrent was sold to bittorrent.com guys. Even if it was never open source before, no one really knows what kind of modifications were done since then, they remeber they sell movies and music afterall. Last version from Ludde was 1.6.1 build 490, SHA-1 324D14D3 C6BEC253 7874E3DB 020A9D00 F60701F6
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -0/+15limewires used mainly by casual users who dont really know how torrents work.
- JoshuaH, on 04/27/2008, -0/+14Limewire connects to Gnutella
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnutella - estvir, on 04/27/2008, -0/+13So?
- madeingermany, on 04/27/2008, -0/+12Who are the Leechers? ;)
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -1/+12why are we digging down transmission? It is a much simpler program that excels at what it does.
The most recent versions are coming along very nicely. - inactive, on 04/27/2008, -3/+14Europe knows where the cool stuff is at.
- shawnanigans, on 04/27/2008, -0/+10NO BLOAT!!!!11!!!!
You know it's a joke when somebody uses 1's with exclamation marks but seriously keep the program minimal. - Yibbon, on 04/27/2008, -0/+10And enjoy swimming in spyware.
- badenglishihave, on 04/27/2008, -0/+9Hot Sex Babes xxx bAcKdOOr slutty sluts AVI.exe
- ParanoydAndroid, on 04/27/2008, -0/+9I was actually shocked at how small the p2p program install base is. Only 1/3 american homes have filesharing software of any type on their computer? I guess because I'm 20 and therefore hang out with the largest filesharing demographic, but I really thought that filesharing was much more mainstream. As in I expected 60-70% of home computers have some sort of p2p software.
- jakeh111, on 04/27/2008, -3/+12Limewire is full of damn viruses, go uTorrent!
- shawnanigans, on 04/27/2008, -1/+10It was never open source. Believe me, or I would be using it on Linux right now because it's only written in C+ so it would have been ported over.
- mrsteveman1, on 04/27/2008, -2/+10id rather put up with utorrent in crossover or wine
- madeingermany, on 04/27/2008, -1/+9utorrent was never Open Source before
http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Is_.C2.B5Torrent_o ...
I'm also rather suspicious about that sale, but that argument is pretty silly. And I'm trying to be happy for Ludde. - banmaster, on 04/27/2008, -1/+9Well you must not have looked very hard then!
- mal1964, on 04/27/2008, -4/+12Sometimes for a single song i will, But its been so long i don't even have it.
- feliks2, on 04/27/2008, -3/+10I got caught with Utorrent though so nothings truly safe, although you probably are better off with it rather than limewire. Also I use comcast (bastards) and it was specifically them, not the RIAA/MPAA that got to me and later reported me to the MPAA. So maybe if you dont use gaycast you are safe with utorrent.
- Surkow, on 04/27/2008, -1/+8The results were collected by "PC Pitstop" which offers (Windows only) programs that "clean" up your OS. Would any experienced user allow a relatively unknown program to gather personal usage statistics from unrelated programs? These statistics represent a large group of inexperienced Windows users. The abnormal amount of Limewire users seems to confirm this. Also, when I have to help those people to use a torrent program I let them download utorrent because of it's simplicity (I prefer Azureus or Deluge).
- euro22, on 12/17/2008, -1/+8You can still use torrents. Just only check the file you need out of the torrent.
- spyder4, on 04/27/2008, -0/+7This is due to ports not being forwarded properly, not because of uTorrent. www.portforward.com should help you out!
- feliks2, on 04/27/2008, -0/+6Thankyou so much, I can't believe I never thought of that. Now I can download ***** from a library.
- Makaveli604, on 04/27/2008, -0/+6Bitlord isn't allowed by nearly all private sites.
- dbr_onix, on 04/27/2008, -1/+7With all the mislabeled, fake and otherwise crappy music on it, 90% of torrent client's selective-download option is nearly always a better option surely.
DC++ is far better for obscure bands/songs, and they aren't just some random band with the ID3 tag changed.. I suppose it's slightly less convenient to setup (needs a port forwarded before you can search/download, you need to select a bunch of hubs to connect to - it's not that difficult, but it's more work than Limewire's double-click-and-it-more-or-less-works) - trunkster, on 04/27/2008, -2/+8Why did Bush get a second term?
There are just questions that can never be answered. - kenkyomausu, on 04/27/2008, -0/+6Please make uTorrent for mac, Why hasn't this been done?! uTorrent i like 600kb, that should be easy!
- estvir, on 04/27/2008, -0/+6You might want to see someone about that.
- Makaveli604, on 04/27/2008, -2/+8This is because you are retarded, not because uTorrent has issues.
- mrsteveman1, on 04/27/2008, -3/+9no, it really doesnt
- mrsteveman1, on 04/27/2008, -2/+8boohoo
Someone could easily come along with an open source client and make it better than utorrent. That hasn't happened, most of them suck. - Moegopher, on 04/27/2008, -2/+7Well, it's small, not a process hog, and easy to use. I think that's what a lot of users are shooting for, understandably.
- Jenadae, on 04/27/2008, -2/+7A lot of sites have banned the use of any client other then utorrent and a tiny list of others.
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -0/+5Dugg for awesome comment. Deluge is my client of choice too and people need to know how awesome it is.
- trunkster, on 04/27/2008, -0/+5uTorrent is so small because it is using a bunch of windows libraries. They are porting uTorrent to Mac, it'll just take some time.
- dbr_onix, on 04/27/2008, -1/+5Err, he was referring to the official Bittorrent client, not uTorrent. Now the official client has become uTorrent(?), and is now closed-source
- Makaveli604, on 04/27/2008, -1/+5Err, yes it would. The point of torrents is trackers. It's a step away from general searches and sharing entire drive folders which you update.
Music specific sites (waffles, what), 0day sites (revoTT, ScT, SCC, TL) and HD specific (hdbits, x264) would not co-exist well with inclient search. - mrsteveman1, on 04/27/2008, -0/+4Slow how? Download speed? I haven't noticed much difference
- seenxu, on 04/27/2008, -1/+5don't forget transmission.
- PL3NTY, on 04/27/2008, -0/+4so install the utorrent ip filter
