^^ fixed - Uruviel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Paper and Pencil anyone? I for one never experienced any of the benefits on note taking on a laptop. Especially not when you have to jot down diagrams and formula.
As for voice recording: I'm not gonna listen to an entire lecture again when I need to take a quick peek at some notes. - tzahi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5One of these days, dig is gonna take out some vital system with its DDOS agents :)
- disrupter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Digg - taking down the internet, one site at a time.
- swatkaizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hey fellow diggers,
Remember when posting to use the content distribution network. It'll help everyone. Pass it on ...

It's easy all you do is add .... -> .nyud.net:8080 - mrpeaches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just wanted to tell everyone about a sticky notes program I developed for taking notes called hott notes. I just released a new version, so if you want to check it out visit http://www.hottnotes.com
Don't worry its free. I'm just a college student who made it in my spare time. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The site has been on the front page for 30 seconds now and it's already down.
- bbenzinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, can't believe it went down. My dedicated should have no problem handling digg. The CPU is piking off the roof. I'll try to get it fixed asap.
- electronicmaji, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8fifty ways to digg ***** a site...
- raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I host my own wiki now, and use that. Has been working great. Cross linking, and all that fun stuff. Makes notes more meaningful.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Guess I'll be adding this to my "come back later" list.
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ok paper and pencil cannot do all.
My favorite ways of notes taking are
1. paper and pencil. (pocketmod, color pen and blahblah)
2. my brain. (mnemonics and blahblah)
3. gmail. (best in searching.)
4. notepad++ (a folding editor) - doctechnical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As a user of PDAs since before they were called that (16k memory? Wow!) I must admit that the more sophisticated the hardware, the more time I spend running down the battery playing games or reading ebooks.
Man, I need an old Sharp Wizard with a qwerty keyboard. - RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. I used to try to take notes on my Palm, and I've tried on a laptop, but I ended up going back to the 6X9 steno pad and a number two pencil. It's portable, boots quickly, has a clean interface, never runs out of batteries, and still works after I drop it.
- bbenzinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just giving an update on the server. I'm assuming too many MySQL connections with WordPress killed it. Just got off the phone with my provider and they are working on it.
Sorry everyone. Hopefully it will be back up in a few. - PRESS_00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dugg it but I was thinking of student note taking software... I'm using EverNote but haven't tried MS OneNote yet. It's good enough for most note taking but it really is difficult to draw diagrams, tables etc, even if it has writing recognition.
As an aside, what kind of material would have the resistance properties of my skin? I want to put that on the end of a pen so I can draw more accurately on a trackpad...
What note taking software do You pp suggest for students? - Cowboy5995, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have found the easyiest way to take notes is to check to see if someones dorm room is unlocked then walk into their drom pick up their note books and walk out. Whats so hard about that and I did not even need to make a web page out of it. I will use this page if my typical method fails.
- GrinningFool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just curious -- if it's dedicated, can't you ssh in and adjust the max connection parameters yourself?
- Rosewood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Searching for the information later. That dominates your silly pencil... that and I can type faster then you can write AND I can always be sure I can read what I typed...
- Eliminator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just make sure you don't get a Willard.
- bbenzinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey everyone. Thankfully, the server is now back up. Media Temple and I went through fixing the problem. For anyone interested.. The WordPress Plugin, Bad Behavior, is not good to have running when on digg. Haha. Lesson learned. It is off permanently.
So, thanks and enjoy the article :-) - ichthus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You know you're a geek when...
you take notes in more than one color. - piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"you know you're a GIRL when..."
Oh, so true! - maychajin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Very useful review of online services. It came just in time and turned out to be very helpful
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use pocketmod.
- jaypee68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still have a Wizard... somewhere. And I have an Apple Newton too. :-)
- macko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find note taking, jotting things down, and the like are very useful when writing a song, but for class note taking I would find it very distracting.
- ibjhb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know if this is just online note programs, but OneNote wasn't on the list...
- BaByB0y, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I use my notebook and my pen to take note and after that I transfer immeadiatly to google notebook. It's the best way to search your note later :)
- PhAdE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sabifoo rules.
- bbenzinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, you are correct. I could not perform SSH on my computer at this time though. The problem was relating to the amount of connections (they said there were around 120 connections in queue when they checked), but the main problem was the use of the WordPress Plugin, Bad Behavior. It caused some good stress to the server and database.. so I have disabled it permanently. Thanks.
- brettbum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought OneNote was great until the notes got to extensive and out of control.
I dropped it after about 6 weeks. I picked up MindManager back in 2004 and use it for all note taking today.
Unlike OneNote its great for diagrams, and now has a little bit of table support (excel functionality).
Exports to Project and Visio also.
Me thinks its the shizbit :) - Durinthal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because theft is the best way to go!
- BaByB0y, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I go the same way :). What are your favourite todo list ? A notebook for it ?
- CupofDice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I downloaded it two days ago. Great program. Thanks
- hadi2f, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0TinyPad is the simplest, easiest and most stylish notes-taking application I've ever used. With the new version you can bring it up in front of you just by hovering the mouse to the top-left corner. I LOVE this because it makes it easy to reach at any time I need to take a quick note!
It's over here: http://iTinyPad.com
Great work from those guys - CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That's hot.
- speedmaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Fountain pen and Moleskine journal for me.
- dhiraj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heee! :)
This one's funny!
In SyncNotes ( http://www.syncnotes.com ) we actually got so many requests, when we were in beta for the color of notes feature, it isn't funny.
In the end, we put in an option to randomize the note color; everytime you create a note, you get it in a different color. Top that with hot shortcut keys to change the note color easily and you very quickly have a pretty colorful desktop.
Color now plays a very *important* part of SyncNotes. We color our notes according to our tastes; red is for important, green could deal with money, that sort of thing.
So I would definitely *not* go so far as call coloring notes a "girly" thing to do. It helps organize better, plain and simple. - dhiraj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think SyncNotes just rocks as far as taking your notes down *quickly* is concerned.
Where the difference lies is in the fact that SyncNotes lets you get to your notes, anywhere, anytime, any place, on any computing platform.
I've put in a slightly largish comment (all apologies) on Brian's post on Solutionwatch, do check it out when you have the time.
YES, this note was first typed out on a SyncNote.
Edit: Ooh, I forgot to say that it will let you manage your notes on any Windows Mobile PDA. And that it's free. - dhiraj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oops!
- Salva, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0D.E.M.P....... how has it been on the front page?
- misomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1hey wow, could this be one of the most absolutely ***** useless articles to make it to the front page...
i'm gonna do a quick google search for "***** that isn't even a decent time waster" and see how quickly it pops to the front... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0whoops... posted to the wrong forum... sorry.

What is Digg?
