- supperman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, I hate the way mass media covers basic research. This research is a crude way to look at one of the many genes involved in amygdala development, which is important for many of our emotional processing. If your amygdala is not properly developed, you can bet that you'll have all kinds of problems, not just risk assessment. It's like saying a gene involved in cortex development is the 'intelligence' gene since without it, you have no brain. Duh. No-digg.
- TomJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fearless Gene . . . what happened to good old booze?
- Digital.Totem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fearless Gene my ass it's called stupidity.
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even more displaced blame. Whatever happened to just being different? Now it's not your fault, you're just "wired" differently. When will they find the gene that makes some people jackasses so they can remove it? That'd be useful research.
- jeromehorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More crap to convince us all of inferiority and superiority.
- opticwind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't courage more of an environmentally-affected trait?
- jumjum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm surprised there's not a distributed home computing project to unravel the mysteries of the genome similar to Folding@Home. Why do it by hand?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just because a mouse has a fear-gene doesn't mean we do - the video even says that. The dude says he "hopes" to find a "physiological reason" for our degree of risk taking. But he certainly hasn't done that yet.
No digg until they find the human risk gene. Who cares about fearless rats? Maybe the gene they took out just makes them retarded enough to climb on ledges. - Jazza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wasn't that the name of a failed WB show?
- DASH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I't isnt a dupe it is JUST from 3 days ago.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The amygdala may influence our decisions, but ultimately, it's our enviornment and concious decision that holds more sway over whether or not we do something. You could be deathly afraid of skydiving and yet, still attempt it.
- DKasler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hello Next Step to Super Soldiers!
- rubinoj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember seeing the pilot for that sad excuse for a TV show.
- Pas3n7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did anyone else read that as "Fearless Genie" and get really excited?
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm scared to click that link.
