- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29This site always cracks me up:
http://www.naafa.org/
They actually claim that being fat is *healthy* for you, and that most of the world's problems would go away if people stopped dieting. - LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29You don't have to run, a nice jog will suffice considering who is chasing you.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24just go up a gentle slope
- inukki, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22are you telling Subway to eat fresh? if you are, you have freaked me out man!
- robharper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Thank you, Captain Obvious.
- tpzoso, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Seriously, and another thing, If you need advice on losing weight, wouldn't you try to get your weight losing advice from people that already have lost some weight??? :P
- aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I have noticed quite a few people who use YouTube to log their weightloss progress and network with other tubers who have the same goals, so a site like this I think would be really well used.
It may mean people are spending their time on the internet rather than out exercising, but with this they're getting motivated by other people which is encouraging them to actually get outside. - nestafett, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14oh good lord, dont focus on cutting crabs or eating more carbs or any of that, here's the secret...
eat real food, the more processed it is the more likely its bad for you (If you eat 100% whole grains then carb counting doesn't matter)
learn about fats and stay away from the bad ones (which are alot of man made ones)
stay lean with your proteins (have a chicken breast burger instead of a hamburger)
and dont eat more than you need to.
my brother lost 30 lbs by looking at ingredient list on labels, if he knew what the ingredients were, he could buy it, if he didn't he wouldn't.
I lost 40 lbs by going real foods and exercising.
oh, but there is something that will help alot. eat a small snack every 2 hours (appx 100 calories) it will speed your metabolism up and your body wont think it has to store your food as fat since it knows more is coming soon.
ps @miss. that was rude, i think people understood what thatdood was talking about, but if you wanna play grammar police put a comma after Christ or its an incomplete sentence. (i think =) - jasmus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8All the jokes have been made, so, here's my honest opinion.
I think it's a great idea. One of the big reasons I personally haven't been exercising or eating well is because of motivation. No one cares, why should I. Here we have a community of like-minded people, trying to become healthier and help others do the same. For me, and maybe many others, it means someone actually cares if you lose weight or not.
I joined up, and so far haven't been asked to buy anything or do any ad clicking or other rubbish. Laugh if you want, but this could be the encouragement some people need to change their life. - JaYBrooks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14You gotta admit that the room full of wheezing fat people was classic... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-VV4zYwCV0

- sunamiebob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Oh god weight ins... I have enough things todo through out my day to make me feel like a failure
- anachronaut, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16Fat people: the new *****.
I haven't seen this much hate speech in quite some time (well, not counting the vile garbage regurgitated here daily by the LGF crowd and their ilk), and I find it utterly repulsive -- and yes, I do realize the irony of my having used the "N" word.
Discrimination isn't funny, whether it's based on sex, race, age, weight, sexual preference or anything else. Grow up, and learn to be more tolerant of your fellow travelers on this cosmic dust ball. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17This site is PERFECT for your mom!
- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The same reason that support groups comprised of alcoholics exist to help people quit drinking is why a site like this would exist. It's encouraging to hear other people with the same problem fight. It makes you want to fight.
- slugicide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Fat people: the new *****."
***** true. I would *love* to see some of the above commenters sit down at at bar with Nomy Lamm (self-described fat-ass, bad-ass, jew-dike amputee [yeah, that's right, she's fat, jewish, gay and only has one leg. And she wrote the best ***** rock opera since Tommy--'The Transfused'.]) and tell her she should go on a diet.
P.S. anachronaut: yr my new frend. - bbrigg1, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Does anyone else get pissed off when you see a fat ass driving around those motorized carts in the supermarket, because they're too ***** fat to walk?
- kaiwai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Hmm, I think the issue should be first to focus on improving ones diet.
The problem is that many people simply cut down on the crappy food they eat, but never actually change their lifestyle; eating less chips is still as bad as eating chips. Stop eating it, and go for a healthy alternative.
I did the same thing; when I'm hungry, I go for an apple rather than grabbing a biscuit, I keep myself busy during the day, keeping focused, and its easy to find that once you do that, the weight will just fall off.
The problem I think in this day and age, people want quick fixes with no work required; as nice as it would be to have that, it isn't possible. Losing weight is hard work, no matter how it is wrapped and marketed, hence I laugh when I see those 'machines' in television. All very nice having all the latest equipment, but if you have no discipline, its all a waste of time. - Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10When you explain your joke like that, baby jesus dies.
- ElitistSnob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4An online community resource for fat people already exists...
http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/ - chipset, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The problem is not in discipline. The problem is not in diet. The problem is not in junk food.
It is in motivation. "Looking like bodybuilder" or "diggin' hawt chix" is not a good motivation and it won't keep you disciplined.
That is why the doctor had prescribed sports to me when I was obese. I went to sports and I lost weight rather quickly.
Because you see a goal: you need to kick the ***** out of opposite team/partner/ball/trick -- and your weight is a barrier.
Beside, then when you exercise you feel like an athlete, not an obese nerd who wants to drop weight for unknown reasons. That is a huge turn on. - mikepictor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4People are spending a lot fo time slamming fat people, and that they shouldn't use a site like this, and should get to a gym.
I think that avoids the fact that a fat person may want to lose weight, but may lack the confidence to talk to a skinny trainer, or be around a lot of thin health nuts. You may tell them to suck it up, but if they can't face that, what progress will they make. This site isn't about just accepting fat, like the NAAFP is, it's a site to make contacts and friends that might help encourage you. Many fat people want to get active, want to eat better, they just will only be comfortable doing it with other larger people - cyrilonline, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@tpzoso:
It's not just about getting advice. It's also about getting support, and some of the best people to get that from are those who are going through the same troubles. - brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope a fat person sits on you and blows smoke in your face.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The number one rule of fat club: DON'T TALK ABOUT FAT CLUB.
The second rule: DON'T TALK ABOUT FAT CLUB. - eatmorgnome, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7So someone made a site where you get diet advice from fat people?
This should end well. - wwwdot1jesdotus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Last time I check there were a whole lot of skinny people who had advice on loosing weight."
Ummm...does it make sense to take advice on losing weight from someone who can't do it? - nestafett, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8why am i being dugg down?
do you people really think being fat is like being black?
please name some people that have gotten killed for being fat,
or denied voting,
or had their govt count them as 2/3 of a person
i think we should be nice and not make fat jokes, but seriously that comparison is ridiculous!
everyone wants to be a victim,
just put it in perspective.
good lord the worlds gone insane - Nelka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Many overweight men and women put a lot of research into weight loss. Many of them have the knowledge and the tools to make it happen. But losing weight in a healthy, long-term manner means changing your lifestyle. That is not an easy thing to do. Especially if your working against lifelong habits or are surrounded by enablers.
For some people to successfully lose weight, they have to cut themselves off from their current environment. It's not uncommon for friends or relatives to deter their efforts. It's not uncommon for an overweight person to be surrounded by overweight friends and family who do not share their goals. Removing one's self from these situations can be difficult. So it makes sense that a community such as this would be helpful.
This site and ones like it are there to provide support and positive change. I can understand getting frustrated with someone who has no interest in being healthy. But why mock those are at least trying to make a difference? - nestafett, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10@anarch
ummmm, no
yeah people can be insensitive towards fat people, but they are not lynching fat people, stopping them from voting, putting them into slavery? i mean thats like comparing the bully down the street to hitler.
and fat usually have a choice (I know a small minority have medical issues and its like a disease but i would say a vast vast majority is due to overeating or a lack of activity)
i will not treat being overweight as something similar to homosexuality and being black or jewish or anything else that is discriminated against, its not even in the same ballpark.
whats next? should we call bosses who fire lazy employees prejudice?
(ps i will discriminate against fat people in certain situations, like ceratin jobs, because honestly fat people can not do some of them as well because they take certain physical attributes)
i agree that we should not discriminate but please do not make them out to be an oppressed minority, it does a great dis service to people who have actually suffered because of true discrimination based on things they cannot change. - PedleZelnip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Because many Digg'ers take perverse pleasure in making fun of others inadequacies/shortcomings so that they don't feel as bad about their own.
- Suplyndmnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fat people meeting up in some fashion? Finally, match.com has competition. Dr. Phil is going to be pissed!
- lolcollege, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"NAAFA works to dispel the common myths that are used to justify treating fat people as second-class citizens: "If they really wanted to, they could lose weight;" "It's not healthy to be fat.""
- Gutterpunk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@nestafett : Way to miss anachronaut's point. He is saying the exact same thing as you did, but in a more concise way, and yet you feel the need to explain yourself.
And btw, in reply to :
"please name some people that have gotten killed for being fat,
or denied voting,
or had their govt count them as 2/3 of a person"
I can name you fat people that have been denied promotions or are being looked over for jobs, and other fat people that get charged for two seats in airplaines. No such thing as being killed, but you should open your eyes and see that being fat IS the new ***** to a certain extent. Not because they are suffering like blacks are/were, but because they are the new society's scapegoat, which is the point that anachronaut was doing. - mistertim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Although, there is contemporary research showing that some people should eat more carbs and less protein if they want to lose weight, i.e. that their bodies just don't process protein very well and they need to get some energy and therefore need to eat carbs.
- Farticus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Here is an even bigger fat secret, http://www.scielo.cl/pdf/bres/v37n2/art13.pdf
in particular page 5,
"In plants, leaf lipids usually contain
large proportions of 18:3ω3, which is an
important component of chloroplast
membrane polar lipids. Mammals who feed
on these plants convert 18:3ω3 to EPA and
DHA, the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids
found in fish.
Wild animals and birds who feed on
wild plants are very lean with a carcass fat
content of only 3.9 % (74) and contain
about five times more polyunsaturated fat
per gram than is found in domestic
livestock (54,75). Most importantly, 4 % of
the fat of wild animals contains EPA
whereas domestic beef contains very small
or undetectable amounts, since cattle are
fed grains that are rich in omega-6 fatty
acids and poor in omega-3 fatty acids (76),
whereas a deer that forages on ferns and
mosses contains omega-3 fatty acids in its
meat...."
i.e. "go wild" and eat the diet your genes have evolved to metabolize properly.
BIG HINT: If it was made in a machine/factory don't eat it. The only good/safe use for refined foods such as corn oil is for burning in "green" cars! - starf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"...Not because they are suffering like blacks are/were, but because they are the new society's scapegoat, which is the point that anachronaut was doing..."
They are hardly "the new society's scapegoat". Yes, they suffer, but your statement implies that they are the main focus now. There are similarities and differences. Anacronaut was showing similarities, but I don't think he meant to imply that they have it as bad or worse than others -- just that they are discriminated against. Only less people view it that way because they feel that it's their choice to be fat. Well, it's not entirely. Genetics can play a large role in it. There are also psychological issues, and some people have medical conditions that make them gain weight. And the food your parents feed you growing up greatly affects the food choices you make as an adult. - afruff23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This really is a nice website even if you just want to lose a couple of pounds and need tips. The average weight loss graphs and recipes specific to diets are particularly useful.
http://www.fatsecret.com/Default.aspx?pa=d
Your best bet out of the top 10 diets is the blood type diet, which seems like a bunch of baloney to me but apparently it works for a lot of people. - starf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"they are in no way shape or form suffering like the blacks did"
I have to disagree with you there. They aren't suffering to the same degree/extent, but there certainly are some similarities. - protektor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Nice looking site, very shiny but yeah, asking other fat people for advice is probably not best way to go. As to the dieting, I've had great results just eating lower fat foods (ie no pizza) and using a thermogenic which raises your metabolism at the same time. In my case, props to 3-acetyl-7-oxo DHEA (aka 7-keto)
- Threnody, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Yeah man it's the perfect irony. Then you have their fat, but not quite as fat family following in a cart filled with cheetos and pepsi.
- starf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Simply eating fewer calories can be a problem. If you restrict your caloric intake too much, it becomes unhealthy and can actually slow or even stop weight loss.
Find out how much you burn in a typical day. Subtract 500. Eat that. You should lose one pound a week. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@rm999
