Horses ~ ponies.

- inactive, on 11/02/2009, -2/+235It blows my mind that people would waste money on this stuff, let alone there is a scam to get you to do it.
- spiderman0505, on 11/02/2009, -8/+142Why do girls like this stupid game so much? Did they all secretly want to be farmers when they were little?
- errik03, on 11/02/2009, -10/+143Farms.
Farms have plants. Plants grow food
Food ~ cooking
OMG HOUSEWIFE!! - blazes816, on 11/02/2009, -6/+131Bears.
Beets.
Battlestar Galactica. - RachelJTM, on 11/02/2009, -3/+115i do not get the whole farmville craze
- waydee, on 11/02/2009, -2/+86People who spam facebook with that ***** deserve it.
- Abatrour, on 11/02/2009, -0/+58Great job son. Now the Japanese are normal like us.
- THEchemisTREE, on 11/02/2009, -0/+48You sir, have made my day.
I thank you. - inactive, on 11/02/2009, -0/+47I know first hand that its very addictive, but I would still not pay hard earned cash for e-goods.
- aloser, on 11/02/2009, -2/+45Why would you pay money to shoot fake terrorists or aliens?
- inkubusfan, on 11/02/2009, -14/+53if you spend even a dime on this dumbass game, you absolutely DESERVE to be scammed out of your cash.
YOU'RE A MORON!!! - DeviantDragon, on 11/02/2009, -10/+48Farmville doesn't really cheat cash from its users insofar as the main issue the blog seems to be talking about is affiliate offers which cause the user to pay money that doesn't even go to the app developer but rather some external company. People who lose money inadvertently are guilty of not reading the fine print and not looking into what they're filling out and clicking.
- suzannethetiger, on 11/03/2009, -0/+31I'm a Farmville addict (yeah yeah feel free to wish death upon me and my fake crops and fake animals). The people who are willing to pay money to advance their farm aren't the ones getting screwed. You can plop down your credit card, pay $20, and get Farm Cash, no hassle, no scam.
The people getting scammed are the people who are trying to AVOID paying by taking surveys or signing up for "free" trials in order to get Farm Cash. Really, if you're putting in your credit card number to get something for free, you fail. In this day and age you should know better. But shame on the FarmVille game operators for allowing this *****. - papashawn, on 11/02/2009, -1/+28What's next, Video Store Clerk Online?
- tidu, on 11/02/2009, -0/+24mind blown
- Mizery, on 11/03/2009, -1/+24It's a game. Do you not play games? Personally, I love Farmville, but don't spend any cash on it. However, I think it's easily justified. People pay $60 all the time for a new console or other PC game, why not spend a little on one of these if you enjoy it and have the money. If the game entertains you, and you spend money on other entertainment, it's worth something.
- freakFlag, on 11/03/2009, -1/+23To Matt From Trey
"Why don't the Japanese hate the ***** out of us for dropping the bomb on them?"
To Trey From Matt
"Because we told them whales and dolphins did it, hence the horrific gore on Whale Wars."
Welcome back guys, we've missed you.
http://www.jonesreport.com/images/111006_parker_st ... - milkmage, on 11/02/2009, -0/+21..um same reason some pay to kill orcs and boars?
farmville is an MMO.. farming crops is not any different than farming badges or gold. - ThraxyWaxy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+21Men, or should I say "Men" play too. I know far too many dudes who waste their time planting fake ***** plants and milking cows.
- Optiks, on 11/02/2009, -6/+26No kidding.
Now join my mafia...
http://tinyurl.com/mafiawarsnow - maildave, on 11/03/2009, -0/+19Let me know when you get through the license agreements that allow you to use that operating system, game and browser software you're using, as well as have the law degree necessary to decipher them.
- immatellyouwhat, on 11/02/2009, -0/+18Yeah! Let's just make all the ***** minimum wage jobs and make games out of them! :D
I can't wait for Janitor Joust! - zxjams, on 11/03/2009, -1/+19GET A BRAIN MORANS
- Zera, on 11/02/2009, -8/+26I don't get any of these tedious "accomplishment" games..... WOW, (any MMORPG), the Sims, etc
Did people forget that games were supposed to be fun? Since when did endless tedium become something to be proud of? Maybe it just really appeals to people who are ***** at real games? - Soniti, on 11/03/2009, -0/+18***** AYOU DOOOOORUUUFIIINN AND WHEEEEEERU
- limpydan, on 11/02/2009, -3/+19I totally agree that this is fair. Those offers are always spelled out on the page(fine print). You also have the option to skip the offers. Hell, I got 80 farm points yesterday just for giving out some basic personal information(Mailing Address, Gender, Age and email). Didn't spend a dime.
- richi, on 11/02/2009, -3/+19By all accounts, Farmville is ludicrously addictive. As to the offers that make money by alleged deception, it was ever so -- but this is a new medium for such shenanigans.
- ThraxyWaxy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+16well I mean that's okay. That's not past the line of what is acceptable in the pursuit of poon.
- strictnein, on 11/02/2009, -2/+18Arrington is an idiot, as usual.
You don't get billed just by getting a text message. You are told 3-4 times about the $9.99 charge. You then have to get a text message, take a code from that message, and enter it into yet another page that says how much you will be charged.
Here's an example of one of the quiz sites:
http://www.officialiqquiz.com/
Judge for yourself if you're being scammed. On the first page alone it tells you twice that you will be charged a monthly fee. - johnwow, on 11/02/2009, -2/+18Parents end up paying for these games, many of them dont even notice the charges on their cell phones
- navspecwarcom, on 11/02/2009, -2/+16Nowadays the internet is only about: How do I screw users out of the most money with whatever scam there is? Back in the old days (1992) everything was free and no scam. Miss those days.
- Mizery, on 11/03/2009, -0/+13Why pay money or waste time playing any game? Why pay to see a movie at a theater, or see a band in concert? You can't take it with you, only have the memory of the event. It's called entertainment. People value different things differently. Some people are different from you.
- MindTrigger, on 11/02/2009, -0/+13What should blow your mind is how far behind reality you are. People all over the world are spending a ***** of money on virtual goods every single day. Hell, look at the gold farming and item malls associated with the MMO game market.
You might think it's stupid, but it's a booming business that has nothing but growth to look forward to in the future. - limpydan, on 11/03/2009, -0/+12Alternate Email.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/03/2009, -0/+11Can you micro-manage a working farm with 15 minutes every few days? With no physical work involved?
Christ, do you even understand the concept of a video game? - ucbmckee, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10I hear Al Capone was rich and successful, too.
- Jrr6415sun, on 11/02/2009, -2/+12@InMSWeAntitrust a game off steam is not an e-good.. and is nothing like buying WoW gold.
- supersonicjim, on 11/02/2009, -2/+12Kevin Smith needs to be on the writing team for that.
- aloser, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11Farmville is free to play. You don't have to pay if you don't want to. And even if you do decide you want something that you have to pay for you customize the experience on your own.
You're going to play for a long time before you end up spending the same amount as you do on a console game.
In some ways it's actually a better model. How many times have you bought a game that ended up sucking or being really short and been done with it in a day? With the pay-as-you-go model you only pay for the entertainment you are actually getting. - ironhide, on 11/02/2009, -0/+9So far, there is nothing in Farmville that you have to spend real cash on, in order to advance in the game. That may change.
- ramiro, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10Why the surprise? It is like playing with virtual dolls.
- aloser, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Join the army.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10As long as you like getting spam.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9...because some people enjoy them? Is it really that hard?
- MeccaYdna, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10I know a couple guys that play this game, but they're more like half-interested in it because they're involved (or want to be) with agriculture chicks that are actually into it.
- CraigHwk, on 11/02/2009, -0/+9So, disable them.
- mmittimm, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Tell us how you really feel.
- KOSmurfy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8Here's the flow of money: Gamer ---> Affiliate advertiser (the ones selling the scams) ---> Affiliate network (the middle men) ---> Affiliate (Farmville devs). They most certainly get paid and profit off of these scams. They may have less liability, but if you know the offers you're marketing are scams, then you're still responsible.
The best metric for measuring the scamminess of an offer is to see how many customers look back on their purchase and feel scammed. If many feel this way, you're probably being dishonest, no matter how much fine print you have. Of course, the laws are much more lax about this, which is why it's important to distinguish between legal fraud and a scam (which may still be legal). -
