- burnstyle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44alf is already on dvd season 1 and 2 in stores now
- fyngyrz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44I'm sorry, but this isn't a "fanboy." Maybe a "fantrepenuer" or something.
My hat off to him. - esaba.com, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21The only reason I RTFA was for that info. :(
I'd like to know too. Anyone have an estimate? 10's of thousands? 100's of thousands? Millions? Billions? A buck twenty-five? Two buttons and a shoe? - MrSpontaneous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I RTFA, but didn't see how much the rights cost him... anyone know?
Bueller? - cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18nothing with chris elliot should ever see the light of day.
I mean, unless you really, really liked Cabin Boy...
...holy ***** what a bad movie... - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -13/+25A) Dugg for the ballsiness of it.
B) I'd be surprised if Alf wasn't already in plans for DVD. Perhaps a cat-flavored edition. - PecanHead, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Yeah, he really showed them. I'll bet they are sooooo sorry that they found somebody to buy the rights to their old ass sitcom.
- Bogtha, on 10/12/2007, -15/+23The word is "albeit". Explanation: http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=20001107n
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"I totally agree, the term "fanboy" is totally overused too much."
Redundancy has much too much prevalence, showing over and over again on these message boards. - bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14dude that is freaking awsome. and you know he is gona make a lot of money. should sell them on itunes also.
- Xalorous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9PULL!!
BOOOM!
(best use for any dvd with chris elliot on it) - bennomatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@cameron
Didn't you like "There's Something About Mary"? He played Cameron Diaz' psycho stalker dude. - silent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7 "Coupling is good, in fact excellent, but Joking Apart was just unbeatable."
Apparently this is the series Steven Moffat wrote before Coupling. Coupling is the best show ever. I'm sold! - alspar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@PecanHead. If it sells well then they will be. And, I was pretty young when it came out, but as far as I remember it was pretty damn good. The BBC have got loads of these programs kicking about, never released. Hopefully, this will sell well and convince them to bring out the rest.
The ridiculous thing is everyone with a tv license payed to produce this stuff and the BBC is just sat on it. They might as well give it away. - Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Why in the hell is the Earthworm Jim series not on DVD? What kind of god would allow that?
- VirgoanVenom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=6625 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00003PE9I/qid=955314902/sr=8-4/104-2001999-4235938?n=130 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00003PE9I/qid=955314902/sr=8-4/104-2001999-4235938?n=130
- JustJon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Nope. The cartoons still run on cable and the Season 1 dvd comes out July 25.nnhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FA57H6/qid=1148399027/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6551147-4571241?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130
- Thuktun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Pick a show, and someone has a fetish for it. Small Wonder even has a following...
http://q.webring.com/hub?ring=smallwonder - crexor, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Albeit, we should be used to the heat and the dry out here, although you have to feel for those poor souls who were unlucky enough to be in Marble Bar, in Western Australia when they had maximum temperatures equalling or exceeding 37.8°C (100°F) on 161 consecutive days (between 30 October 1923 and 7 April 1924). Sheesh! That's hot!
Something wrong, isn't there?
Yep ... that use of 'albeit' just doesn't cut the mustard, I'm afraid.
'Albeit' comes from the Middle English al be it meaning, "although it be." In English it means "even though; although; notwithstanding." It doesn't mean 'however.' It's a conjunction (like "and, but, so ...") and its purpose in life is to join words, phrases or sentence parts.
The dust storm was unpleasant, albeit not unexpected given the drought.
----via write101.com - Chewy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I loved that show....wasnt he the guy that would do an amazingly long Karate kick and tended to run into things with his crotch?
- bogie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm waiting for Parker Lewis Can't Lose
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wouldn't mind seeing Herman's Head and Space Above and Beyond on DVD. Two more shows that got that axe from Fox.
- CyberTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can see it now, it'll be released on DVD then one of the digg movie pirates will rip it and put up a torrent. All the credit to him but if the number of people who pirate movies is anything close to the number of people on digg who pirate music I think he made a mistake.
Go ahead and burry me, but you know it's true - therealfoz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4haha... I loved that show.
"Not a problem!"
I'd love to see Misfits of Science released too. - jeolmeun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Conjuctions can be used at the beginning of a sentence?
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hell yeah. Coupling's awesome. I'm not in the UK but thankfully there's p2p, so I've gotten to see all of the eps, and they're all brilliant.
- syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're kidding me. A guy asks about new episodes, I provide commentary on why nobody would be able to buy those rights and a link to people doing so without the rights, and it gets dugg DOWN? WTF is with the knee-jerk assumption that response with an URL in it is spam? Retards.
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FWIW: Alf is far more popular than Small Wonder
http://www.google.com/trends?q=alf%2C+%22small+wonder%22 - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I wonder how long things like this will even be necessary.
Right now, the reason not everything gets released on DVD is either due to conflicting syndication arrangements, or because the perceived demand is not enough to justify the cost of producing and distributing the physical DVDs (along with all the packaging, promotion, etc.)
As digital distribution becomes more ubiquitous, and more easy to do, it will just be a matter of finding the old tapes and converting them to the right file format. It's still not completely free for the networks, but the cost and risk comes WAY down.
I hope we'll see a day in the not-too-distant future when almost any show ever aired is available for download. Just like Amazon revitalized book publishing by allowing the "long tail" of demand to make hits out of niche titles, digital distribution is going to do the same thing for "forgotten" TV shows.
And just to throw my own personal wish list into the mix - I can't wait to download all the early years of MTV's 120 Minutes. Kevin Seal FTW! - geminem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Someone should buy the rights to the second season of Twin Peaks and release it on DVD!
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is awesome news. Moffat's *Joking Apart* out-Seinfelded *Seinfeld* in my opinion. And I consider myself a big Seinfeld fan, post-Season 1 (I'd rank Season 1 *Seinfeld* as poorly as Season 1 of *Star Trek: The Next Generation*).
Moffat is currently one of the best (if not the best) writers of the new *Doctor Who*. His episodes have been amongst the best shown so far. Those include the two-part "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" from Season/Series 1 (err, 27, both of which just recently aired on the SciFi Channel here in America) and this season's (2 or 28 depending upon your view) already classic episode "The Girl in the Fireplace".
Since it hasn't been shown in America yet, grab a copy of "The Girl in the Fireplace" online through various channels. You don't have to be a Doctor Who fan to appreciate it, but you probably will be a fan (and of Moffat's work in general) after checking it out. But do watch it again when it airs on SciFi and pick it up on DVD/UMD/iTunes/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray/whatever when it is released legitimately.
Warning, spoilers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Girl_In_The_Fireplace - JustJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tiny Toons still gets play on cable, but no DVDs out there and I don't see any signs of any upcoming Tiny Toons DVDs having been announced yet.
- Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4How about Tiny Toons then?
- Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Make that 4 people.
Welcome, Chewy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Much more information than the Telegraph article:
http://www.offthetelly.co.uk/comedy/jokingapart.htm
Still doesn't mention how much total it cost him, though. - manowatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Greatest American Hero Season 1 is out, and it's just as horrible as you remember.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006SSP9O/102-7523058-3179324?v=glance&n=130 - saigumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1S:AAB is on DVD already. Best Buy was selling the entire series for $10 if you bought Firefly a while ago.
- drsnacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok. Broadcasting rights are different from DVD rights. In fact, every form of distribution has its own rights associated with it, which is why Anime Now put Invader Zim out on DVD while Nickoloden still plays episodes on Nicktoons once in a while.
- typecase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want Gummi Bears. Wish I had the cash to get that license.
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who modded down the SilverHawks?!
- fitzfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Comcast had no tirouble getting rid of The Screen Saver's airtime, hopefully they will get rid of their rights.
- bmorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How much for Heat Vision and Jack?
- esaba.com, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Parker Lewis was awesome!
That show made me go out and buy a tape recorder. - Phoenyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*cough* http://www.dapcentral.org/ *cough*
- manowatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just found some spare change under my car seat. Maybe I'll buy the rights to Small Wonder.
- moylan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i want eek the cat...
- SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder what format this will be released in? Likely Region 2 PAL, though I hope they have a US-compatible disc. I'd love to show support.
- syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Me, too, but they keep that damn power battery lit up all night long and it makes it hard to go back to sleep if you wake up in the middle of the night.
- vtwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not only they are, but new DVD-only Futurama movies are in production.
- jeolmeun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember, this world was cursed because of sin.
