Failed: Google's captcha doesn't work and they wont admit it

webrampage.com — Try it yourself: Head over to www.google.com/addurl and enter a random URL. But, don’t enter the CAPTCHA correctly. Just type something random there. As you can see, it doesn't work. After contacting Matt Cutts, Google’s head of webspam, who replied some form of cover-up in the comments, it's clear that Google refuses to admit their epic fail.

    They probably forgot it even exists.

    I'd hardly classify this as an "EPIC FAIL"...it's not like the CAPTCHA that protects GMail account creation behaves the same way as this one.

    When offered the choice between a simple answer and a conspiracy - it helps to stick to the simple answers. They are invariably the correct ones.

    You got that right! The page is totally useless as far as I can tell. I've gotten sites indexed and well ranked on their first page within less than a day...And that was before I learned I supposed to use their page to submit my URL! So, does it's broken status really matter???

  • inactive, on 08/16/2008, -2/+3No its not about getting abused or not caring about it. Its about being one of the biggest companies and failing at making a simple CAPTCHA, and then lying about it because they're embarrassed.
  • inactive, on 08/16/2008, -3/+3Actually a lot of people use it. Especially web developers. They just use it hoping that Google will know about it and start indexing it within a few weeks.

    If Google didn't care about that page then I don't think they would send Google reps and Matt Cutts to lie about it.
