- uberduger, on 07/03/2009, -4/+70I joined Facebook because you needed a college email address to join.
It was like moving into a neighbourhood where there was a security guard on the gate judging whether or not somebody was a total retard. If you have a college email address, then you're probably not one of those people who thinks it's okay to have a profile full of (flashing)MASSIVE GLITTERY FLASHING TEXT(/flashing) and thousands of pictures and music videos that you found online.
So I'd more call it 'intelligent flight'. What a shame that they finally shot the security guard and opened the door to the retards. (And then gave them apps, which was like arming them all megaphones and paintball guns.) - jrm125, on 07/03/2009, -1/+46For me it was the ***** interface, crappy user pages, horrible music, and downright creepy nature of many of the users.
Anyone else feel like they were getting a seizure from some users' pages? - mrpunman, on 07/03/2009, -1/+41Myspace is full of underage kids and sexual predators
***** you Tom! - al1encas1no, on 07/03/2009, -6/+40I agree with the OP - folks use social networking sites to connect with each other quickly and efficiently, and it's tough to do so when my Mac beachballs for 15min trying to load all the lolcats on your myspace.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -1/+24Myspace is good for music and nothing else.
And its not even that good for music. - smokinJoecamal, on 07/03/2009, -1/+22There it is again, the race card,
you would think maybe we might have figured out by now to just let it go,
The more you bring up the issue the more the lines are drawn,
Stop drawing the lines damn it! - inactive, on 07/03/2009, -2/+22Dugg for truth. Especially the applications part.
- MichaelCorleone, on 07/03/2009, -1/+20Maybe it had to do with everyone's myspace being easily targeted by viruses, unnecessary decorations on everyone's page, and facebook having a much better way of viewing photos.
Plus the whole, "who's in you top 8 of friends" thing really began to piss me off - SystemicThought, on 07/03/2009, -1/+17Don't forget the background music and animated gif background.
- esteskid, on 07/03/2009, -2/+15Seriously. I have 187 other requests and I refuse to click all those buttons. If I ***** ignore something long enough it should go away, I shouldn't have to acknowledge something to ignore it. They could at least give me an ignore all button.
- stifford, on 07/03/2009, -1/+14I had seen this posted on a forum somewhere once..."Myspace is like Detroit...a once thriving social center, which is now only occupied by minorities and indie bands". I luld...
- jrm125, on 07/03/2009, -2/+12I don't know if it's sad. It was nicer when Facebook only allowed users with college email addresses.
- smitci, on 07/03/2009, -2/+11My favourite part about this article is where every reason she states as mimicking race relations in real life can also be much more easily viewed as something completely innocent if you aren't trying to twist it to your own stupid agenda.
- sb66, on 07/03/2009, -3/+11Myspace is a kids site, and facebook appeals more to older teens and adults. Don't think I buy the 'racial divide' angle.
- Bowd99, on 07/03/2009, -3/+11Hmm, I thought I preferred the layout of facebook and the fact that you're not spammed every three seconds by some ***** band. I never realised that I was just an elitist whitey who didn't want to mingle with black people online.
This crock of ***** passes for journalism? Good ***** God. - inactive, on 07/03/2009, -1/+7Whatever the reason is, MySpace will always suck.
- specialK16, on 07/03/2009, -2/+8"then you're probably not one of those people who thinks it's okay to have a profile full of (flashing)MASSIVE GLITTERY FLASHING TEXT(/flashing) and thousands of pictures and music videos that you found online."
Are you completely sure of that? - reyoo30309, on 07/03/2009, -2/+7If all else fails...
Play the race card. - Tanktunker, on 07/03/2009, -2/+7Echoing the comments of the OP, I joined Facebook because I am white, and I do not like black people.
- dagr8tim, on 07/03/2009, -1/+6I came to the conclusion about a year and a half ago that Myspace was the trailer park of the internet.
- IHaveIssues, on 07/03/2009, -4/+8Did you mean "Uncle Tom"?
- Waiting2awake, on 07/03/2009, -3/+7I feel the same about the net
- Paranor01, on 07/03/2009, -1/+5I don't think I can leave a better comment than the 1st one I saw on the comment section of this "article", so I will copy it here:
" JohnnyS of California Posted at 2:40pm today
First off, let me say I'm from the U.S., and am not familiar with this website. If this is a joke website like the Onion, then I say kudos to the author- This article is hilarious! But if this is a serious article, then, has the writer (or anyone quoted in the article) ever logged onto Myspace or Facebook? Facebook didn't cause White Flight, it caused Human Flight. Every other member on Myspace is some band trying to promote themselves, or some Spambot pretending to be a loose female that wants to hook up with you TONIGHT. Then did it become okay for reporters to write articles without doing even 30 seconds of research? Again, hilarious article!"
This commentator is correct, the article is the only prejudice thing about the whole debate. There is no research, just opinion. Proof of point, FTA: "'Any high school student who has a Facebook page will tell you MySpace users are more likely to be barely educated and obnoxious," she said.'
If the author is taking hearsay as research, then the author needs to go back to journalism school, if not go for the first time.
Buried for inaccurate and zero real research. - ThE0eNiGmA, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Way to miss the point. He was referring to how he liked it when it was limited to college email addresses, as opposed to today.
- srg13, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Way to completely misunderstand his whole post...
- bebouchard, on 07/03/2009, -2/+5Echoing the comments of the OP, I joined Facebook because MySpace was an ugly friggin' mess. I will admit though, there was another reason for my making the switch. Any move that lets me have less NewsCorp in my life is a good one.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -2/+5I, for one, am burying this piece of ***** article.
- Tanze, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4what the hell does that even mean?!
- ginsengprod, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4To inject racism into why one social network site is doing better than the other, in ludicrous.
Facebook is more popular because the site is more appealing to adults, and there are far more grown-ups in the world than kids. - Zandt88, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Myspace's rep was destroyed by the sexual predator thing right or wrong. Soccer Mom never even tried it because it was one of the first social networks that got big and by the time she might, it had horrible press. Facebook was there when the mainstream wanted to give social networking a try. Combine that with the need to use a real name (of sorts) and you have a networking system that seems more adult. The addition of the "wall" leaps way past the comments and email provided on myspace. Myspace has become synonymous with hooking up for sex, or promoting your indy band. It was a necessary step in the evolution of social networking but it failed to evolve and grow. It has nothing at all to do with racial demographics and the author is using racially charged terms to get attention.
- relltherell, on 07/03/2009, -3/+6Was this Necessary?
- dijkstra22, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3The interesting thing about that is that the statement "Race doesn't exist" is so true biologically.
- cygnus2112, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Sorry, didn't read his last sentence. Cheers.
- twoboxen, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3We prefer to be called "european americans". Only we can call each other "white". Otherwise, it's racist and insulting.
- JRFanning007, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3It allows you to have a legal copyright of your own music. Thus the only reason I use myspace.
- adam07, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2You can get scripts for greasemonkey in firefox that makes that ***** disappear.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Murdoch owns MySpace..... you confuse me. 0_o
- inkubusfan, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3buried for taking 20 minutes to add a note. It's not that it's complicated, it's that you're incompetent.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2^Rupert Murdoch owns Myspace, NOT facebook. Dumbass, read the original post. Learn 2 read. Idiot. (you like name-calling, *****?)
- webadelic, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3dugg for the description alone.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Picture comment for picture comment. Comment my pictures, and I'll comment yours.
- Rapter09, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Amen, brother.
We're not equal until we're equal: and that means nobody gets benefits or hate more than anyone else.
Race doesn't exist; just hate everybody equally. - Corrosionx, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Cause nobody I know ever used Myspace.
- StewVader, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3You sir, are a moron.
- DCTBSBN, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Here's an old but better story about FB/MS
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/11/07111 ... - CodeCobalt, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1well the reason people stick with yahoo, livejournal typically is the same reason why people wont upgrade operating systems, try linux, why some people still have vhs, or dvd players, go to a steakhouse and get your normal new york strip instead of trying something new. People generally stick with what they know and has worked for them. They are satisfied with what they have and don't want to put time and effort into learning something new. again, thats for the most part. yahoo has fantasy sports and a few features that google doesn't, but most people would opt for a cleaner, easy to use interface.
- crgnetworks, on 07/03/2009, -2/+3kill whitey
- indubitably, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2 "more cultured" and "less cheesy" .... hmm, their friends must not being filing out every obnoxious survey that appears. also, this isn't the first time i've seen this theory
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/07/31/106-fac ... - MrAdventure, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2My biggest complaint about MySpace was the music situation - no matter if I had the "play music" setting on or not, there were far too many players that ignored it. Kinda defeats the ability to browse while at work or in a public location without annoying the people around you. (Screw muting, btw)
Besides, all the animated giffery was soooo 1999. -
