- spritom, on 03/02/2009, -11/+58Am I the only one that's content to live my life without Twitter? I've seen it, learned about it, it just doesn't appeal to me.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -3/+47Title is wrong. It's supposed to say Facebook's Explain's Failed's Twitter's Takeover's.
- greendalek, on 03/02/2009, -2/+24Whichever, so long as whoever's reporting this LEARNS HOW TO USE A GODDAMN APOSTROPHE CORRECTLY. Please for the love of God an apostrophe does NOT mean "Look out, here comes an 's' !"
- lroche, on 03/02/2009, -2/+16Some people like Twitter - some like Facebook. I'm on both and right now I like FB more. Most of the people I follow on Twitter are celebrities and not friends.
- nextekcarl, on 03/02/2009, -0/+11You are not alone. I can see why some people would like it, but it just isn't for us.
- CindyMindy, on 03/02/2009, -4/+14I just don't get Twitter. Maybe it's just me, but I simply don't care about what P Diddy is up to or what Kevin Rose has to say about tea or some *****. I had an account for about a month and all my friends just posted crap like "chillin" or "at the concert. awesome show!". I'd rather get on Facebook and look at pictures of a concert than looking at a little status update telling me they're at a concert. Both are abused for the most part and only fuel some teen girl's ego even more.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+8buried's
- kernel16, on 03/02/2009, -0/+8When FB is supposedly worth 15 billion, that's when the Stock market failed. Let's get realistic, it's like when I bought a Sony MD player back in the days when I was stupid. I refused to believe that my cool new toy was rather useless, so I tried to do ***** with it, anything to make it more than it was, or if anything actually useful, but I soon realized it was a load of money wasted. That's what FB and Twitter are, people bought into them and now they're trying to make it more than it is, if anything useful but they'll soon learn it's nothing special.
- FDDIcent, on 03/02/2009, -1/+9So get more friends.
- Andy.D, on 03/02/2009, -1/+8No way Facebook is worth 8 billion, let alone 15 billion.
- likwidfuzion, on 03/02/2009, -0/+7I’m riding on a pink dolphin, doing flips and *****.
- omarbonilla, on 03/02/2009, -4/+11Twitter = Facebook status. There's nothing Twitter does that I can't do with Facebook, plus most of my friends aren't on Twitter.
- geekjustin, on 03/02/2009, -0/+6Not that I'm defending poor grammar, but the original article's title is, "Facebook's Thiel Explains Failed Twitter Takeover." Maybe a bit of bad editing instead.
- Grazzit, on 03/02/2009, -2/+8are you serious? Twitter is just the"how are you feeling" line from facebook. I have no idea why they'd even consider buying twitter instead of just doing the same service. The twitter name isn't big enough to justify the purchase cost.
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 03/02/2009, -6/+11I think it will be impossible for any of these powerhouses to merge into one supergroup. Twitter is about as different from Facebook as WoW is different from HALO.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -3/+8"It will either turn out to be a great strategy or a terrible strategy," Thiel says.
Gee. You think? I wonder why Facebook is still not making money.
"We said it's not worth it," the person says. "Don't treat us like children."
That, coming from the people that took a stupid toy (facebook/myspace status updates) and turned it into an incredibly stupid business. This article is golden. - JedicodeWarrior, on 03/02/2009, -0/+58-9 Billion what?? Pesos??
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4I enjoy Facebook, and found it appealing.
I did not find appeal in MySpace, or in Twitter. - inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4I'm sorry, I was grinding Hodir rep. What did you say?
- blapierre, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3Seriously, Citigroup only has a market cap of <7bil. Facebook thinks it is worth more than the largest bank in the country? Wake up Mark.
- nichojo, on 03/02/2009, -2/+5Twitter is for those who think they are important enough that people want to know what they are doing every 15 minutes. I will stick with my sporadic Facebook status updates for those who care enough.
- Eurynom0s, on 03/02/2009, -1/+4Buried for random use of the possessive in the title.
- monkeyrun, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3lol don't you just love how Facebook uses their hyper inflated "market value" to pay people.
- novalux, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3I'm on both, but to me Twitter is just a glorified RSS reader with mostly boring posts about the lives of people I don't know, with the occasional neat link or funny post. I have some friends on their, but we're all on Facebook and use it more. It integrates Twitter's functionality with a lot more features, and so Twitter becomes redundant to me. I use Ping.fm to update my facebook status at the same time as my Twitter status, so I hardly "use" Twitter at all.
- deadbaby, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3I don't get that mentality at all. Facebook / Myspace is the biggest ego thing ever. Oh look at my friends! Look at my photos! Play a game with ME ME ME ME! Match ME ME ME up with other people in online dating games!!
- pcpimpster, on 03/02/2009, -1/+3Facebook is not worth that much. Twitter did the right thing.
- Grazzit, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2because it's constantly being tossed around is why. I listen to leo laporte and he pushes it, Dvorak pushes it, Digg itself pushes articles about twitter daily.
That is why it gets so many negative comments. - dhughes, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2 Twitter is so verbose, I want to start a website that just has emoticons, right now my status is :|
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2and I will.
- Kokichi, on 03/02/2009, -3/+5HALO? High Altitude Low Opening? Or do you mean Halo?
- BellaVitaGirl, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Twitter for me (a recent convert) is like facebook status update mixed with an instant messaging client mixed with "wow that is a really cool link" and "awesome! I didn't know that" and "can you help me with this?" minus the "JOIN MY ZOMBIE TEAM" factor
- monkeyrun, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1The only problem is, after everything's said and done, the $400m stock will probably worth something less than $50m.
- Grazzit, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2Those celebs are using it to grow and maintain their brand name. Gotta keep people interested in them or their next movie may only pay them 500k instead of 1 mill
- YoThisBAlec, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1You's have's it wrong's I think's, It's Skwissgar Skwigelf's is talking's in the title's
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2A business has to make money.
Twitter and Facebook do not. - douglasr007, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2No way is Twitter worth anything
- tearsofash, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2I use both, but I'd hate to see them merge. Twitter is relatively simple, and I enjoy that. It's a great way to meet new people, while I use facebook for keeping up with people I actually know.
- MScrip, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2It's worth whatever advertisers are paying to be on it.
Facebook is a hub. People use Facebook for a variety of reasons... sending messages, sharing photos, writing short messages on walls, etc. The point is, people spend a lot of time on Facebook... it is a destination.
Advertisers pay to have their ads on Facebook... much like this site and *every* other site on the internet. If Facebook goes bankrupt because it can't make money selling ads, every other free site on the the internet will fail too.
But, as long at sites have paying advertisers... they're worth something. Now, Facebook might not be covering all their expenses yet... so should they just shut the door? - ModernDayDarwin, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2You're ahead of me. I don't even know what it is.
- GeneralFailure0, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2Maybe it's not a possessive, but a contraction.
Facebook is... Failed Twitter Takeover :( - nichojo, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2I think the irony is that you carry over the @ in the reply even though you have replied to a specific thread started by me.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1douglasr007 obviously needs to take his meds again. So much anger and hostility.
- theOster, on 03/02/2009, -2/+3agreed - twitter is for breaking news or if you want to use it with friends, as a means to mass text (not to tell the world you're eating cap'n crunch). facebook is far more intimate (usually disgustingly so). not sure a merger would be a good idea for either.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1You think Twitter is making money?
- Meocross, on 03/03/2009, -1/+2I knew right from the start that facebook was mediocre just from their interface alone.
- deadbaby, on 03/02/2009, -2/+3Exactly. It's a different audience. I don't want to see your photos, your game requests, or who your friends with online. I might be interested in what you're doing however.
- guyro, on 03/02/2009, -1/+2Yeah yeah, so I forgot to edit out that 's... sue me :-)
- guyro, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Relax mate. The original story's title was "Facebook's Thiel Explains...". I edited out the dude's name but the apostrophe-s slipped by me...
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -2/+3Ba ha ha ha. You're working at ***** twitter, and trying to get respect? Ba ha ha ha ha.
You should be honored facebook even acknowledged your existence. They could easily add a couple things to facebook's status update system and remove any need for twitter. - mosesmarimo, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Thats very normal. A lot of people actually find social sites not appealing. That's diversity in human nature. Probably the article will be appealing to the millions who enjoy Twitter and Facebook. By the way, Twitter is on 332 at Alexa.com.
