- boldfire, on 05/16/2008, -5/+217I have noticed that they have been using considerable user feedback in developing this new look, something I didn't necessarily expect from a huge site like Facebook. I do however, congratulate them because they are seeing what their bulk user base wants and building to suit them, too little social networks are doing this recently.
- peterjmag, on 05/16/2008, -4/+91Oh, and what's up with the spammy comments?
- JNudda, on 05/16/2008, -2/+81tabbed facebook == win
- mycatsasha, on 05/16/2008, -6/+81Why don't they just get rid of the applications? It was great before that! Now every time I sign on I have to delete applications that I can't even use unless I invite 40 of my friends!
- Accolade1, on 05/16/2008, -8/+61Facebook? How about Digg's comment revamp? I'm impressed...
- TylerM, on 05/16/2008, -6/+58Facebook, like Digg, listens to it's users.
- Me1000, on 05/16/2008, -2/+50Here is the link to the group Facebook setup to follow their progress and voice your opinion...
http://www.facebook.com/FacebookPreviews - krisscofield, on 05/16/2008, -0/+46I love Facebook. But I think it would be a lot better without 90% of the utterly pointless applications they have available on there. Maybe nuke the 213,102,183,918 BILLION vampire/werewolf apps on there?
- LifeIsARhythm, on 05/16/2008, -5/+48it is going to look a lot like the iphone version of facebook
- sandeepg, on 05/16/2008, -2/+37Definitely. I'm one of the 55,000 members of the Facebook Profiles Preview group from which the designers have directly been taking feedback and posting up screenshots of concepts every week. Those screenshots often directly reflect what people have been saying and it's nice to know that you've been a part (albeit a minor part) of a major website re-design.
A fairly transparent process and one which should be taken notice of by other social networking sites. - peterjmag, on 05/16/2008, -24/+58I've been pretty impressed by how smoothly Facebook runs on most computers, even with the introduction of the Facebook Platform. My dumbass friends can have hundreds of pointless zombie applications and their profiles still load quickly. Their designers really seem to know what they're doing.
- Idrive, on 05/16/2008, -6/+27Easiest way to clean up facebook...GET RID OF THE APPLICATIONS.
- Gioleb, on 05/16/2008, -6/+24Facebook needs a liposuction rather than a facelift. It has become unbearable to browse through profiles without a proper appblocking Greasemonkey script!
Plus, I wish they could fix the iPhone version to display groups and picture comments.
It already displays events, I don't see why not groups. - fenderjazz, on 05/16/2008, -9/+27Applications were the single worst thing to happen to Facebook. I blame these for its metamorphosis into a more trendy Myspace.
- neonfunk, on 05/16/2008, -0/+17"It's an obvious response to a series of public missteps, such as the introduction of the news feed feature"-- referring to the transparency of the the redesign process...
I dunno-- I think in retrospect the news feed probably ended up accelerating the popularity of facebook, as much as people were opposed to it at the time. people secretly love it - ajskhan, on 05/16/2008, -1/+15As long as my friend's Facebook profiles don't take 3 minutes to load thanks to 45 applications and 300 images in the mini-feed, I'll take it.
- sovereign3, on 05/16/2008, -1/+15It'll take some time getting used to, but it's definitely an improvement.
- evilelf2407, on 05/16/2008, -3/+16Because some of the apps are useful.
- Mootabolife, on 05/16/2008, -2/+15If you ask me, all they have to do is keep facebook a college networking site and make applications more regulated and transparent and they're gold. All those myspace kiddies coming over are placing a million apps on their pages and making it ***** again.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -3/+15Diggers: if you're going to say the EXACT thing someone already said, digg up their comment instead of commenting!
- tech42er, on 05/16/2008, -3/+15Loads quicker than Digg. Seriously, Digg just freezes Firefox whenever I click on a story or scroll through comments.
- error792, on 05/16/2008, -0/+11Myspace.com is a perfect demonstration of how giving power to the users can be a bad thing.
Color? No. - foofightrs777, on 05/16/2008, -2/+13I've been using the grease monkey script "***** Facebook" to get back to the clean and minimal cluttered look. If 90 applications on a page piss you off check it out.
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/11992 - ogermino, on 05/16/2008, -0/+9Great plans. Some Facebook profiles seem to have become entirely too cluttered for comfort, or even sanity.
- BTallack, on 05/16/2008, -1/+10Just load http://iphone.facebook.com/ in Safari. (Works fine on Safari for Windows or Mac) You'll likely want to resize the window to get an accurate idea of how it looks on the iPhone/iPod Touch.
- skidooer, on 05/16/2008, -0/+9Who doesn't like the news feed? It's easily one of the most important features of Facebook.
- callmejordy265, on 05/16/2008, -1/+9It must be internet-makeover week.
- IEatHamburgers, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8I thought that too, but then Digsby was updated with Facebook chat. I know people who have IM accounts but never use them, but are heavy Facebook users - now I can pester them whenever they come online. Hooray!
- fr34k5h0w, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Block them as you receive them, and if one (or in my case 10) of your friends are regular app whores, block them from sending application requests. It cut my "other requests" down to maybe 1 a week usually.
- boldfire, on 05/16/2008, -3/+9spam.com/nothankyou
- javip, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7if u don't like an app, don't use it
if u don't want to see an app, hide it and you'll never see it on anyones page.
if u don't want to receive invites to apps, block them.
apps are just ways for people to express themselves.. if people want to use them to express themselves they can use them.. if you don't like them do what i said above.
i've never understood this whole apps spoil facebook thing..
well i do kinda understand it, most people here lack the ability to express themselves in ways other than 1's and 0's. it's not a criticism, i'm 1/2 nerd/computer scientist.. and i also don't like seeing pages with lots of pointless apps.. but i don't complain about them and i don't think they're a bad thing. - jamesarice, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6In a few weeks apparently...
- chkdg8, on 05/16/2008, -3/+8Please get rid of all the ***** like "growing gifts", "super wall", "entourge", "what cartoon are you?", "movie trivia". ***** OFF man! You know, Myspace became HTML for retards, please don't let Facebook go that route.
- ken12012, on 05/16/2008, -3/+8Because there is a "digg it" button.
- Crazymaniacc, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5You're a douche
- ogloom, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5Why can't they STOP adding stuff to facebook. I remember when facebook was a clean, adult way to connect to your friends and communicate. Now its turned into a disgusting mess of user generated apps with some profile pages taking upto a few minutes to load on my PC, and frequently crashing my browser. Ontop of that, I have to sift through, and delete up to 5 "Vampire/Pirate/Ninja" invites.
I wish they added an option that disabled viewing/loading of all but what facebook used to offer: wall, photos, information. I thought this ***** was for college students...and now its for stupid 10 year olds and their silly flash games - skidooer, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5I agree. However, there are so many useless applications available that it's quite difficult to find the gems.
- javip, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6i wrote this below.. but I thought it'd be better served here because mycatsasha's comment is being dugg up so much!

- kinggimped, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Thank God they're going to clean it up again. I was a member of Facebook pretty early on, when it was only open to those with .edu or .ac email addresses, and it was a joy to use. It didn't have the vast array of features it has now, but it was tidy, quick, and clutter-free.
As far as I can see, it's the applications that are ruining the experience. Each time I sign in I have ~15 new application invites, and no matter how many I block, there are millions more ready to take their place.
Apps have just gotten out of hand now. There's an application for almost every single retarded activity you can dream of, and the ones you can't dream of are probably in development right now.
I don't feel particularly strongly about it, I just think FB would be far better sticking to what it does best - providing a platform for quick, easy and elegant communication. The more dross you add into the mix, the slower, harder and clumsier the whole thing becomes.
Still, it beats the ***** out of MySpace. But then again, so would a 3 year old girl with no limbs. Suffice to say, when FB introduces an embeddable autoplay-by-default "hey, listen to this ridiculously ***** music" player and the ability to customise your profile background to a epilepsy-inducing animated .gif that exactly matches the text colour on the page, I am outtie. - a1cd, on 05/16/2008, -5/+9I dont like this... It takes more then 1 click to stalk people now.
- jlbarber, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Do not want
- sovereign3, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Thanks for the link. I love it. I hope the new design shares similarities to the iphone version.
- chompsky, on 05/16/2008, -4/+7I too enjoy the services of Facebook!
- checkacheck, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Good article, but I'm not sure I agree with the author that the introduction of Facebook's Newsfeed was a public misstep - it seems to be pretty well accepted now
- tech42er, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3The one problem I've seen with the iPhone version of Facebook is the lack of wall-to-wall. Otherwise, it's great.
- SuperCujo, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4You don't have to ad the app if yo don't want to. It is up to you.
- toastrbot, on 05/16/2008, -6/+9They're taking a page out of Facebook's iPhone webapp that's tab-centric. Very good idea.
- nekochan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3get rid of a good 99% of the applications. i do like my nonintrusive schedule, now playing, and now reading apps. but WHAT KIND UF EYES R U?? INVITE FRENDS 2 C. things must die in the most horrible way ever.

What is Digg?
