- willdelaney, on 04/16/2008, -3/+33Facebook: All your informations are belong to us
- bixby1, on 04/16/2008, -2/+29Sounds like a great way to share information. Facebook is getting freakishly good at that.
- slugicide, on 04/16/2008, -1/+10Cool. Now all my "friends" will be alerted when I make stupid comments on articles I'm too lazy to read.
- loconet, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7Yah because your public digg history, picassa public albums, etc are "private" right? I can see the argument with facebook data itself but they are using the public data from these other sites. Even if you delete those outside accounts there is always a copy somewhere. If you don't want the problems that come with putting information online that can be tied to you, well don't put that stuff online to begin with.
- stutimandal, on 04/16/2008, -2/+8More ways to leak your browsing/personal data to Facebook, which they _don't_ delete even after you close your account.
- stalefries, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5You could import RSS feeds into your "Notes", but not into your Mini-feed.
- stalefries, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5IM isn't enabled for me yet. Also, none of my friends are on facebook anywhere near as much as they are on IM.
- Matic, on 04/16/2008, -1/+6Looks kind of weak. They could have done a better job on Digg and showed the thumbnails and broke the stories up.
- treed, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO STEER, ASSHAT
- chronichyjinx, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5Got any of that crack left?
- IvanB, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4There's some people I'd rather not get bugged by on Facebook in real time.
- johnpaul191, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4Twitter would probably flood out the minifeed. There are Twitter blocks that display your most recent post though.
Poor pownce.... so much potential, yet so ignored. - EvanVolm, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4It'd be nice if they would allow custom RSS feeds, so you could import from pretty much any news site. But this is still nice.
- darkdriving, on 04/16/2008, -2/+6You?
Buried. - aliguana, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3keep it college only? have you looked at yer average college kid's profile vs your older person? I say: keep the college kids off it! ;)
- Brew, on 04/16/2008, -2/+5First good addition to facebook in awhile.
- dafunkmonster, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4Step 1: Facebook
Step 2: Share Information
Step 3: ???
Step 4: WORLD DOMINATION!!! - smackjack, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3YOU'RE the idiot for not using the reply button
- Macskeeball, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Probably from the feeds offered by said sites.
- petemorley, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4TYPING IN CAPS WON'T MAKE YOU ANY MORE ELOQUENT
- phlezk, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Spiffy, but I don't want them to combine the wall and the mini-feed, which they are planning on doing.
- NerveBand, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3And once they have all the data in the world, they will make ZILLIONS and take over the world.
But only after google of course :) - mytibt, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2There's a reply button for this
- gr33nie, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2I wish they'd stop messing around adding features I'll never use and start rolling out the more useful new stuff to all networks. Facebook Chat will practically end my need to use MSN and the profile tabs will finally clear up all those crappy applications people have.
- Macskeeball, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2I checked, and it is indeed limited to just one feed.
- kipmartin, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3its soooo cold out!
hey...are you my mom? - Macskeeball, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2I was doing that too, but now I don't need an extra app on my profile to do it, so I've removed the Digg app. I did the same thing with the WordPress.com app I had on there once I learned that Facebook's own notes app could import from RSS feeds.
- B3N3, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3They'll have to fight Google for that honor...
- olliedude2k, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2But the other problem is we can all put feeds and stuff into Facebook. But can we get an RSS feed for our news-feeds or mini-feeds in return? Nope. Maybe this is their competitor to FriendFeed?
- MrMoonlight, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2link with my flickr account dosnt' works
The email or user name you entered is not valid. Please verify and try again. - frankiewarren, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I hope they roll it out quickly so I can figure out how much I'll actually use it!
- Macskeeball, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Apparently it only imports the Diggs, not the comments users post on Digg. I wished it imported the latter as well because I make comments here far, far more often than I Digg articles, but maybe they'll add the ability to do this sort of thing generically with any RSS feed. Their Notes app can already import from any RSS feed, but it supports only one feed..
- Macskeeball, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1They sort of do, with their Notes app. I use it to import my blog. I don't remember if that supports multiple feeds though.
- NathanMahdavi, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1toooooo right.
- bowe, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3Cool, but I still hate the FB.
- aliguana, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2needs: Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, MySpace Status :p
- Trixrox, on 04/16/2008, -3/+4So does anyone use IM apps anymore? Does everyone go to their facebook where they can now...IM?
- NathanMahdavi, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2worked fine.
- johnpaul191, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1It's way beyond being college only, too many other potential users out there (read: $$$). At this rate it could possibly take down myspace in a few years. Then again who knows, and open social is just going to stir the pot.
- vonskippy, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3Yawn....more facebook crap.
- aliguana, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1agreed. the problem with an open API is that anyone can make an app. And they do. And the stupider it is, the more kids fill up their profiles with them.
There should be classes of apps: games, messenging, polls, video etc. Then you should have options in your prefs "never show game apps", "never show video apps" etc. Then, people can choose what apps to add, and YOU can choose what apps to hide.
Either that, or FB needs an editorial team, and more than 10 complaints about an app it gets removed from FB entirely. - thebankshow, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Isn't facebook just an organized/integrated microcosm of the internet?
While I like the concept of facebook and personal start pages (i.e. igoogle, netvibes, etc.) they ideally shouldn't exist. Each person would have their own website and connect to other websites. You could join websites that are groups. You could subscribe to news from other sites around the web and view it all from your site. Your personal site would be bound to your identity, and could store your data. (This would solve the issue of purchasing items or going to a new doctor/dentist.) At the same time you could switch gears and browse anonymously.
Implementing this ideal world is years away, because there are tons of security, cultural, political, technical, yadda yadda yadda issues to work out.....but that's at least my version of a future state. - NathanMahdavi, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2i second that.
- B3N3, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2I saw the headline and thought they were going to start sharing our credit card information. I guess that's next quarter...
- iSwire, on 04/16/2008, -5/+6it's turning in to myspace#2 - how sad
keep it college only - ThugThrasher, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I think you're right on the future there, quite possibly.
I personally feel that the facebook/myspace thing is going to end up being just a precursor to something more similar to what you're describing. - frankiewarren, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1There's a place for the applications that are being developed... I just wish people spent more time thinking about which apps they allow to take up real estate on their profile.
- Agreb91, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1That is pretty cool that you can share what you do on other sites as well.
- MScrip, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Who looks at profiles? I just look at my friend's new photos as they are announced in my News Feed... or just search by their name and send them messages. You can do so much without even going to their profile. Too many apps are getting in the way of the core of Facebook... which is photos, messages and wall posts.
