- PL3NTY, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3I fancy Chinese take away now
- Ninnux, on 07/02/2008, -5/+7I don't think it would be government intervention. I would imagine the government would want something like facebook to exist and work in their country. Easy to search for dissenters and like-minded individuals working against the party.
- rz8472, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2No, there is not much 'hard' censorship so to speak. But Chinese authorities slow down access to sites they dont want you to see (like the BBC) to a crawl so that most of the population don't bother going there. If you really wanted you could still access most of those sites either through a proxy or even without.
- Foot56, on 07/02/2008, -2/+4I was just curious; can you use a proxy to get around the censoring?
- leerayIG88, on 07/02/2008, -2/+4wow....*whooosh*
- hapax, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3That's good to hear, no comments are being censored by the Chinese government!!!

- ictoan, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2I'm in US and Chinese websites took forever to load for me. I think it's just the network trying to do its thing by reaching other side of the world.
Time = Distance / Rate? - idavidtang, on 07/02/2008, -3/+4When I was in China, going to US websites took forever to load. Never knew why though, I guess it could be from all the government spying and snooping around.
- inactive, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0The Internet should be a medium is the freedom of speech, is not the
suppression. The Chinese government hides tramples the human rights.too - aznkidx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0i currently live in china. .facebook chinese and facebook english have hard times to connect. other sites are fine and im using a 2m internet adsl that connects 512k speed with ease.
- flashback99, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Nope, you're being dugg down by people who have actually lived in China long enough to know these guys are just propagating old stereotypes.
- Electricpigdigg, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0It's quite clear that some parts of it are definitely being blocked judging by the spokeswoman's response, shame really that these things are still occurring.

the network blockade, has knows the truth the right - hululu, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0I am not optimistic about the fate of facebook in China's market. There are already so many Chinese-language networking site and public forums launched and managed by Chinese engineers. facebook may not fully understand the habit and taste of Chinese web surfers. Up till now, it seems no foreign internet giants have succeeded in China's market, including myspace, yahoo, etc.

m - m - inactive, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1China probably blocked Facebook because its purpose is to collect information for marketing firms (under the guise of social networking). Moreover, Facebook is funded by venture capital firms that are connected with the US Government. So they have every right to be worried.
