- stonebone4, on 03/25/2009, -25/+561Wow, imagine what could be accomplished if all those people who were pissed off about the new Facebook layout chose to complain and protest about something that actually mattered.
- ChelseaBlacker, on 03/25/2009, -56/+561Really? Are they that horrible? I find that everyone complains after a redesign, and 4 weeks later, they can't remember what the old design looked like.
- ThePastafarian, on 03/26/2009, -8/+174The last redesign was only that, a redesign. This most recent one changed and removed a lot of function though.
I was in your exact position after the last one, but I'm still undecided about this one. I'll probably get used to it, but I did enjoy the previous one more. - DarkLaughingMan, on 03/26/2009, -11/+111They would get Obama elected?
- ileftfark, on 03/26/2009, -5/+87Further proof that all you need to change the world is a laptop, a couch, sweet vidalia onion potato chips, and some angry ***** typing.
- AmnesiacJack, on 03/26/2009, -5/+80FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS CODING PICK A DESIGN AND STICK WITH IT!!1
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -5/+73Who said anything about "caving?" The blog entry simply outlined where they plan to go from here to make things more flexible and customizable.
Buried as inaccurate. - TechEvil, on 03/26/2009, -2/+57I liked the previous design - it was pretty nice. The only complaint I have with this new one is that I already have a twitter account - I don't need 2.
- shutaro, on 03/25/2009, -7/+62Is there any pressure Facebook *won't* cave to? Seriously, someone should start a letter-writing campaign/protest movement to make Mark Zuckerberg repeatedly punch himself in the face and say "Why do you keep hitting yourself?"... I bet they'd cave in a week.
- o76923, on 03/26/2009, -1/+37Zuckberg needs to get over his twitter fettish.
- dirtbikedude, on 03/26/2009, -4/+34It's about time they looked at the design...they need to understand that they're not Twitter so don't try to copy their design
- guitarchitect, on 03/26/2009, -2/+32I'm so god damn sick of just seeing a newsfeed full of retarded quizzes my friends have done - all I want is to (a) be able to control and prioritize what kind of content I see and (b) get rid of the "real time" thing in favour of a "what's happened in the last day or so" summary... like if a friend adds pictures I'm interested, but if someone does 10 quizzes I don't want it to dominate my homepage.
- xero8472, on 03/26/2009, -22/+48That's exactly the way I see it.
If I could digg you up twice, I would. - Sky0001000, on 03/26/2009, -1/+26The complete birthday calendar was lost also.
If I wanted to use Twitter, I would go there. - NeoNcP, on 03/26/2009, -1/+25I hope they don't consider it "caving in"
They should happily listen to their customers and give them what they want. - Marjosmo, on 03/26/2009, -6/+28"...something that actually mattered." is in the eye of the beholder, like beauty I suppose.
Having Widowed as a relationship status matters to me, but it doesn't matter to the admin team or the executive staff of Facebook. They don't seem to realize that the widowed demographic is rapidly changing to include their peer group. All requests, whatever the form, are ignored. - x2cprincess, on 03/26/2009, -1/+23Where can I get sweet vidalia onion potato chips? They sound divine!
- DarkLaughingMan, on 03/26/2009, -4/+24I just find it bad from a usability perspective. It's not really user friendly at first (it requires re-learning). It also overloads you with information. But after you find out about the filters and what not it does improve. Though I usually don't go on Facebook until someone sends me an invite or something so their redesigns or changes don't bother me much.
- Rev0lver, on 03/26/2009, -0/+20Your username speaks volumes.
- fenderbiz, on 03/26/2009, -0/+19You can't view everyone's photo albums at once, and you can't view all recent photos that friends were tagged in. Those were the best features.
- tacojohn48, on 03/26/2009, -5/+23To quote an admin on Fark in reference to a redesign "You'll get over it"
- CoreyTamas, on 03/26/2009, -0/+17On the other hand, Facebook can't be customized by the user to make a profile page look like the inside of a goat's stomach while playing a song from the Jonas Bros.
- Retrospekt, on 03/26/2009, -3/+20The first design of Facebook was the best, no doubt.
- Jordan117, on 03/26/2009, -0/+151. Facebook does something incredibly dumb
2. Users shriek in vain about it for a few days, attracting media attention
3. Facebook eventually caves in, but only after the damage has been done
4. Everyone in step 2 continues to use Facebook
I'm sensing a pattern here. - wild, on 03/26/2009, -1/+16The aesthetics of the site arent issue. Its the broken new feed on the center page, where I have to disable every damned application individually to keep it from showing up.
I don;t care what quiz my friend took or who they super poke'd. If they fix that kind of crap, I'll be just fine with the new look. - KortizDZ, on 03/26/2009, -0/+15I love how the article tries to make Facebook look like its user's bitch. What in the hell is the point of putting that type of slant on an article? Don't answer that...
The point is that Facebook is actually listening to its users. Just think if EA listened to its consumers complaints about the games they make. - AmnesiacJack, on 03/26/2009, -1/+15Do you really want every page looking like a Myspace layout?
Do you trust people with that much responsibility? Cause I don't. - GroundIsSound, on 03/25/2009, -15/+27I think im just about the only person in the world who didnt despise the facebook update with an undying passion. Suddenly it just felt like I had a second twitter account with all of my friends preloaded.
- quadshock, on 03/26/2009, -1/+13Ability to change how long of a passage you want to display on your profile page, after writing a note.
Checking everything I need to know on the right side of the newsfeed... events, requests, birthdays, etc. etc. - frieddonuts, on 03/26/2009, -0/+12Did you just censor the word "eff" or am I forgetting a swear word?
- CoreyTamas, on 03/26/2009, -0/+11To be fair, recently Facebook has been doing stuff which seems like attempts to "sneak something past" the users. It's a fine line, but I think that the user responses should give you some idea of the difference between "the evolution of Facebook" and "stuff the users just plain don't want".
- mohsenxp, on 03/26/2009, -0/+10Nothing at all.
1) You start complaining about a 'real' issue
2) Your complaint gathers steam and others follow suit
...
3) Some celebrity dies in a car crash and the news is filled with celebrity gossip
4) Everyone forgets what you complained about. - Chompy, on 03/26/2009, -0/+10I dugg him down, then dugg him up twice.
- DarkLaughingMan, on 03/26/2009, -0/+10I actually thought the last change was good. I actually switched to it before it was officially rolled out for good. This one I find more "eh".
- mohsenxp, on 03/26/2009, -1/+10I agree with you about a redesign. But this one is much more than that.
It has changed the way Facebook functions and that is what is upsetting everyone.
It is clearly trying to mimic Twitter with the 'live' newsfeed of everything everyone does. It's terrible and a definite downgrade to what Facebook is all about. - flawlessjess, on 03/26/2009, -2/+10you trying to say facebooks layout didnt matter?
- thespiff, on 03/26/2009, -1/+9I still miss the days when logging in brought me first to my profile, and my wall, and I went from there. If I wanted twitter I would use twitter.
- ThePastafarian, on 03/26/2009, -0/+8Like random Youtubers torturing cats!
... wait. - Cl1mh4224rd, on 03/26/2009, -1/+8> "I have to disable every damned application individually to keep it from showing up."
Wait, what? This can actually be done? How? I must know!
Edit: Oh, oh... I see. This is apparently a very recent addition (as in, the past 36 hours). Awesome.
Still, I'd prefer the option to filter out any application that I do not also have installed. - ChileanGoD, on 03/26/2009, -1/+8Give an army of customizable filters and I will not complain.
- BoomShake007, on 03/26/2009, -4/+11I think by "something that actually mattered" stone meant something that actually mattered. Your widowed status doesn't matter. Facebook doesn't matter. Humanitarian causes, scientific research, things that actually matter could benefit from all of the wasted energy people put into this kind of thing.
- XISUPERMANIX, on 03/26/2009, -1/+8Seriously. The sad thing is they changed it to copy twitter like they were losing members. People don't want a copy cat when they can have the original for free. I'd hate to see next time they redesign trying to copy another site. I don't know why they need to change every couple months. For me I loved the original Facebook when they really didn't have any apps and everyone had a simple profile. Now you have people with dozens of apps on their page that are pretty annoying, reminding me of Myspace. They should just let users choose a theme that can be changed at any time. Certainly that would be easier than coming out with a new design every couple of months, have negative feedback and having to revert to the previous theme like you did all that designing for nothing. I know there are few members who like the redesign and now going back to the old one without a choice will piss them off too.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6IRQ? Is that some grotesque offspring of IRC and ICQ?
Or were your friends so hardcore they actually communicated through interrupt requests? - LogitechG15, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6Kind of like 90% of the Digg posts?
- KirbyMeister, on 03/26/2009, -5/+11All redesigns require re-learning.
Otherwise it's not a redesign. - Slio9, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7That's what the new update was. If I wanted Twitter, I'd go use twitter.
- Deeh, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6Oh! The angry typing...I knew I was missing something! I just kept throwing the chips at the monitor....
- PrismoFillusion, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Changing the Facebook design = changing the world?
- grinsy, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Besides, when a service company listens and responds to customer feedback, it's good business sense, not "caving." That'd be like saying, "My waiter totally caved and brought me that bacon wrapped steak. I'll bet I can get him to bring me a piece of pie if a complain loud enough." Facebook's problem is they don't seem to be doing adequate customer research before implementing changes.
- Stryke, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I'm glad to see that they've brought back the "hide" feature for individual posts that appear on the front page, although I did prefer the "see less/more of..." function.
You're also able to remove posts from your profile again, which is a relief... that was a huge annoyance I had with the update. I'm getting used to the redesign, but without these small updates i'd still be pretty fustrated with it. -
