- Unkel_Slam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can beat it.... How about AVG from www.grisoft.com or AVAST from www.avast.com both free for non-business use. With the added benefit of not having your system slow to near sloth speed.
- ramzi1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Norton sucks. AVG is much better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even if they send it home like the AOL disks I wouldn't take it.
- jamesong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NORTON SUCKS...
i know i have to deal with it everyday,
stupid people calling in saying they cant route,
90% of the time it's Norton - jefflundberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't forget the opensource ClamWin AntiVirus: http://clamwin.com/ I'm not sure but I think to get NAV completely free, you need to own a previous version.
- Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why on Earth would anyone want Norton Antivirus?...I think I'll stick with my Antivir (http://free-av.com) thank you very much.
- chuckfoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Keep in mind that any anti-virus is free(MIRC)
- Bonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Using Norton would be your down fall. Stay away from this crap and use AVG or AVAST if you dont got money. Norton hogs a lot of system memory so if ur gonna use Norton u would need Hare or CacheManXp to reduce the memory usage. Plus Norton does a poor job of cleaning a virus. It finds the virus sometimes but never actually cleans them in my case. Go Away Norton!
- Yes1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, shawnblog not to flame you or anything, but norton is the most expencive anti virus I have seen. and by far the worst. I had it from a router I bought, so I installed it . ***** LAG FEST! it dident do anything at all. it's ***** really. *****. I uninstalled it. now it still ***** up my computer every day. THANKS NORTON 8D
I hope they get cancer for chirstmas. - swimmingcat, on 02/01/2008, -0/+0Norton is run by thieving pirates. One expects anti-virus software to protect against threats from the outside. There needs to be another product to protect from the greedy money grabbers at Norton.
I have been using Norton 2006. Works fine (as far as I know). The other day it downloaded some "updates". After that my computer could not access the internet via LAN, Wi-Fi, or EDO. No google. No anything. When the internet security function in Norton is turned off - access to the internet resumes.
I suppose this does offer 100% protection against computer viruses from the net - but it is a trivial solution. It is as sensible as not turning the computer on. Again 100% effective - but renders the computer completely useless.
And Useless would be the appropriate word for Norton tech support. They do admit that there are "some issues" with access the net using XP and Norton 2006 with the latest patches. Their solution: upgrade for $69.95.
This makes me angry. Norton has deliberately altered their product via an update such that I a) pay the pirates $69.95 or b) use the computer with the virus protection turned off.
Norton has broken the covenant. They tell you that updates are so that you can have the latest protection - but quite apparently it also enables them to obsolete the product when they want to extract more ca$h from computer users.
I have opted for option B. I refuse to be black mailed and I think the world needs to now that the ethical standards of Norton are in the toilet.
I can further add that I used the computer for a year and a half with no virus software. Me and my 12 year old son surf the net extensively. Norton did not find any virus in the 2.7 million files on the machine when it was recently activated.
The observation that I would make here is that during that year and a half Internet Explorer was disabled - only FireFox was used to access the internet. And we only use web mail - no Outlook.
Norton was activated as I take the computer to my client's office and plug into their network. Having an up-to-date anti-virus package on the machine is a requirement for this to be permitted. A requirement for me to earn a living and now Norton thinks they should have a part of that. The answer: get your greed money grubbing hand out of my pocket.
So be warned - Norton is run by thieves. At some point they will remotely obsolete their product and try and grab your cash. Its time for a world wide boycott of Norton and other such companies that are completely devoid of ethics and morals. - shawnblog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you get what you pay for
- DarkHack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1FREE is good.
- DarkHack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, I don't use Norton but just posting the deal that all. I use McAfee Profesional.
- ChacoNazi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0dont say "lol" to ur self thats just stupid
- AssasinX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Go steal it off the internet.. LOL
