- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also try 1800-411-METRO (same thing- but sometimes 800-free-411 goes down) http://411metro.com/
- leusch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The coolest thing is how it determines related advertising. While it was "looking for the number" of a local pizza joint, it offered me a discount on Dominos pizza and then said, "Press 1 to call Dominos instead or press 2 to continue your call to Joe's pizza". Now that's smart targetted advertising.
- Nyfeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tried this using Alltel... Got an error saying my service doesn't support calling to that number. Bastards.
- Splendor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
lmao. Who is this guy? - snwboardguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never need the phonebook again!
- asplodzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just tried the first number... busy signal... tried 1-800-411-METRO and it took me about 40 seconds total to get connected to Domino's Pizza out here in Beaverton, OR
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome. It worked perfectly to track down my home phone number. Dugg just because it's free.
- Raider007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i just text google for info...since i got 100 free text messages a month it's always free for me...
- Loyaleagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yay snopes.com...their stuff has always proved to be good quality in my experience
- chappie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
On ALLTEL, you must use 1-888-FREE-411
There was a discussion on this topic over at HoFo recently:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=821965 - pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2haha I originally posted this story and got it on the homepage. Heres my post: http://digg.com/deals/411_is_now_free . Note that this 95 days old, not that it isnt still cool.
- mrskippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I tried 1-800-411-METRO and it's pretty awesome - you answer the prompts, the operator just confirms the listing, you listen to a short ad and, YOU GET CONNECTED!!! I didn't have to wait or anything - I called 1-800-FREE-411, it was a wait of like 30 secs and then a stupid voice recognition system didn't understand my request, so an operator put me thru but the system never connected me to anything!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1+++Good resource + DIGG

- JoJoDilio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmmm... I just tried this, and if it's automated, then it certainly has GREAT voice recognition software, because that sounded like a REAL person!
- boicraig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oldie but a goodie
++digg - selphishnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Brilliant. Great way of using google advertising model. It's a win win situation for everyone involved.
- seanhiebert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1City and State? No Provinces allowed, huh? Canada needs some free stuff too!
- Scuba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Free for international users too? OMGosh!
- igutekunst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"That is REALLY old. I've been using it for 2 months now."
Just because it is not the newest thing on th planet, doesn't mean it shouldn't be dugg! - dangmoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just tried to find myself and I got a real person, she told me so.
- guyincognito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"digg effect for phones = busy signal"
hahaha - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Free 411 doesn't complete calls anymore. I guess it just got too popular.

- sirmasterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its great, use it with skype because skype offers free 1-800 numbers so the 2 services workin together equals free calling to landlined from any internet connection
- jdgtrplyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old news, but does work just great!
- roadup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My browser is having trouble displaying this link. However, I could click through and view the printer friendly format:
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/free411.asp?print=y - ((PolyAst)), on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not only is this a dupe, it was originally talked about on ATTACK OF THE SHOW the same week it went public MONTHS ago! And since this is a link to a Snopes page that hasn't been updated since 3 December 2005, no Digg.
- crash331, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1like 6 months old. use it a lot, though.
- JackDoyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just tried calling. It gave me the initial message and then said all circuits are busy. Try again later.
- merdeisel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1old. this was on here a month or so ago. +digg anyways.
- Xtrem3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Real olllllld, the computer doesn't work that well and the operators are grumpy little bitches, but I guess you gotta put up with it for something free...
- CTSPatrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works good...knew this before already...dugg.
- BradMurray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FREE411 was busy and 411METRO couldn't find my number which I know is listed.
- tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who uses 411 anyway? Send text message to google (46645), or search on your web-access...
- idiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In canada there's http://canada411.ca/ , but I'd love to have a free telephone version of it.
- dtm1017, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really old news but good #, sometimes you have to listen to ad's though.
- dtm1017, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Free 411 doesn't complete calls anymore. I guess it just got too popular."
I know I am pissed I used it on skype all the time...I am going to try 800-411-metro on skype and see if it works. - apollo2011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really old, Service is really good, and the best part about it is you can use it on Skype for free.
- kingamoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alright ... This awsome.
I love snopes, except for the most disturbing image I have ever seen in my life was on one of their pages. Thinking about it now makes me want to THROW UP - diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OLD!!! NO DIGG
- malvanez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's cool but I thought the problem had already been solved by Google SMS and 411sms. I recommend sticking to these two for the following reasons.
1. it still cost me my airtime to call the 800 number from my cellphone.
2. It takes at least 2 minutes to go through the automated menu with the phone call when getting listings by text messaging takes a few seconds.
3. I have the number saved with 411sms or google sms because I have the text message. With 1800 free 411 (as with the regular 411) they still just tell you the number, as a result, you will still have to call back if you forget it or got connected to the wrong number.
4. The text message search is more extensive since both google sms and 411sms search the regular business listing database but also perform full websearch ensuring more accurate results.
For people who don't know about the services that came out a year ago, here are the links
http://www.411sms.com
http://www.google.com/sms - AndreaA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using 1-800free411 for a while now. It's legit and it is absolutely free, not to mention easy. It doesn't take two minutes to go through the menu... I don't know what that's all about. Are you using the same service I am?
- akumiszcza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Is it that hard to add "US only" in description? Or is digg.com only for US citizens?
- abbtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Similar to this other Digg

http://hackedgadgets.com - wayjer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Old but worth bringing back!
- brydude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I remember reading the article taking advantage of this in skype. Skype allows users to test the SkypeOut features with free 1800 numbers. So, for free SkypeOut calls you can call 1800free411 and get it. Pretty cool. I'm not digging because of dupe/old. Sorry.
- chiefbozz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'll stick with Google SMS.
- sohmageek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0really old....
