- imac12, on 10/10/2007, -1/+75Read the article. Feds does not equal FBI. Nowhere does it mention the FBI in the entire article. It does however, mention the General Service Administration.
Buried as inaccurate. - Gabberwok, on 10/10/2007, -4/+69This is why I don't believe in government conspiracies... I would first have to believe that there are the people who run our government are intelligent.
- Dokument, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Durring the time the site was down it read "I'll be back!"
- bieber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Buried for ***** use of quote marks (which, mind you, aren't present in the original article's title). Does the submitter seriously mean to imply that the feds (not, as the Digg submission's title says, the FBI), had some kind of great conspiracy in place to disrupt California government? Anyone care to tell me why they would even _want_ to do that, let alone what good it would do when they were so quickly and easily "found out?"
- w3torg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21"Unfortunately there was no prior notification, they just made the change and sent us an e-mail to one of our administrators who wouldn't be a normal contact" Seriously? Nobody thought it through well enough or even gave advance notice that they were changing things? That sounds just like our .GOV.
- 1laradream, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Loved this: "It gets even better. "Unfortunately that was about 3 in the afternoon and folks back East were already going home, so it took us some time to get hold of the right people in the General Service Administration to get this address reinstated."
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16If the government appears stupid and repeatedly demonstrates itself to be stupid, even in extremely important situations, it's stupid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor - dgh1973, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14"but 3pm isn't exactly quitting time"
Actually it is for government workers in DC... 6am-2:30pm is a very common schedule for federal workers here to combat the increasing rush hour traffic. - sarge96, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10No, no I believe the feds are this dumb... and some people think they came up with 9/11 and the JFK assassination? No, they're just too stupid.
- marc2242, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Ooops. Sorry Arnold.
- mesmeriffic, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17On a slightly unrelated side note: The high school I go to in California blocks ronpaul2008.com, but curiously not barackobama.com or hillaryclinton.com.
- consoneo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Perhaps it is I who takes the title "Idiot"... I read the story wrong... Nix my rant, por favor :)
- tb616973, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8This isn't what happened. Someone changed the California transportation department sub-domain to redirect to a porn site so they shut it down because the fed's didn't know how much access the hacker had. It was intentional not "accidentally"
- MedHead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It also wasn't done on purpose, as the title here claims with the use of quotes around the word "accidentally".
- tschau, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Wow. What a grossly misinforming title. Thank you for pointing that out.
- Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7And that's exactly why the govt needs to gtfo of everything.
- raistlinhunted, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They probably use WebSense, the de facto web content filtering hardware. WebSense downloads filter updates regularly and apparently the good old boys back home have decided to block certain party's sites, but not others. We noticed that back during the last election also.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What? that's outrageous. Find a collaborating source and submit it to digg immediately.
- schavira, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I heard on the radio it was because somebody hacked into the sites and made them redirect to porn sites (presumably Goatse/similar?) Sounds like the work of /b/tards.
- 99er, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The title says that the FBI did this... the article doesn't even mention that they had anything to do with this.
Buried as inaccurate. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Skynet needed a reboot.
- Kugo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I see no ref to the FBI. As if they would be involved. I believe the ref is "feds".
- fogster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Thanks. I was wondering how the FBI got the ability to turn off entire TLDs.
- dopesick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well I'll be damn'd. Someone was paying attention. Thanks. It wasnt as if the "FBI" simply threw a switch. And it was the Federal Government that did it. It took a major to ***** to remove a domain, unintentionally.
tschau - Nice sarcasm, i see what you did there. - Hoxie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They were doing it so that the terminator can't google search sarah connor.
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Wow, someone confused a bunch of Govt. employees??? hehehehe real tuff I bet.
- djdingo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I thought California was done with the 'rolling blackouts'.
IM IN UR SERVER KILLING UR DOMAIN! - yoda17, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7I can't wait until the government is running healthcare.
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This was a conspiracy: A conspiracy to let government employees take a break from doing nothing so hard.
- whinehurst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Honestly people. Just don't use quote marks unless it's literally a quote. that's what they're used for. that's ALL they're used for. any other use makes you look like a douchebag.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yea, that's poor writing style along with the poor reading skills. FBI is not mentioned in the article.
- mindracer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2law enforcements usually have shifts.. my local one the shifts are from 7am-3pm.. its only cause they start at an earlier time to get a jump on the day, and so the next shift has decent hours
- skodai, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Slightly unrelated? As in, it has nothing whatsoever to do with this submission?
Oh wait, it's Digg, so Ron Paul is related to every submission. Sorry, I forgot. - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Big DNS?
- frogpelt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why is 'Accidentally' in quotes?
Is there a vast government conspiracy involved? To what end? - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Uh, feds as in Federal Government employees and not FBI. Reading comprehension issues?
- whinehurst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1is goatse even still up? and how the hell would /b pull that off? mofo's can't even use #fortune...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2***** Bungling Idiots
- redxxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ditto.
- SSUK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Oops".
As an IT guy, it's the most used phrase in exsistance. - JoshuaGross, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Conspiracy theory is implied.
- Frostman3D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't understand why all the state government sites are controlled by people at the federal level. Big Brother?
- scholty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13PM PST is 6PM EST so yeah they would be going home. And the people staying that late actually are the stragglers anyway. Since you do realize that most .gov workers in D.C. work from 6am til 2:30pm right?
- SSUK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, did you even read that comment? He thinks, like we ALL should... That the FBI just screwed up. But of course, jews did 911 and the moon landing was at Area 51.
- mrurc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Boggle.
- pigfister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1so is america on security lv red spewing more propaganda about how china or russia is hacking them and destroying their gov sites now
- unionaire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1well for those of you who works for govt, although u may not get as much pay as other jobs have to offer, u do get great powers such as shutting down other countries' govt domains...maybe next time you can use the satellites to stalk your best friend's girlfriend
- consoneo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Whoever wrote this story is an idiot... Even government employees don't work until 6pm... Unless they have some pressing issue. (6pm: 3pm PST + 3 Hours = EST - They were on the East Coast according to the article)
- Dokument, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1IT IS NOT A TOOMA!!
