There is an anime called Chobits that explores such a situation of a guy finding a Persocons, human like computer, and his conflicts about if its right to fall in love with a machine or not (basically there is a real life person interested in him, but the chobit also seems to show interest into him too because its a special experimental model ... blah blah). Anyways, I found parts of the anime where I was like "Dude, go with the real life, are you an idiot?" and then others where I was cheering on the thoughts to go with the chobit. Very good anime and very interesting and may make you think on weather such a thing is wrong.

It will either come to AI (Artificial Intelligence) or Holographic type of bodies. Something that can feel and touch, but something you wouldn't have to worry about getting pregnant or using protection. The only protection you need is a remote control. Then make your mind go twisted. There would be a lot of human vs. robot fighting though, imagine finding your loved one cheating with a bot? I mean how human does it go until it becomes a "non-toy" and becomes a "person". That is a whole different topic, but think about it? Why take it that far, and not just leave it to your imagination.

- planckscale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If we could manipulate our dreams, I think this would be the best way to promote a good night's sleep. Vivid dreams are as we all know pretty damn good. If scientists could develop a way to manipulate our dreams, some interesting scenarios could develop. For example, I could program my "dream" on my PC the night before. I would write out a scene like 1. tropical island. 2. lots of naked women on beach. 3. surf is 4-5 perfect right hand barrels. 4. Dance club on island hosting wet t-shirt competition. etc...So from here the machine builds the scene and once I fall asleep, it sets me into lucid dream mode and allows me to go (or fly or lay down) whereever I want in the scene. Problems could be drug stores running out of ambien, but I digress.
