Exclusive - Yahoo Launches Ajax IM with Yahoo Mail
techcrunch.com — This morning Yahoo will announce that they will integrate an Ajax version of Yahoo Instant Messaging directly into the new Yahoo Mail beta. Unlike Google ’s integration of Google Talk with Gmail earlier this year, Yahoo is combining the products into a single interface. Yahoo says the new features will launch in the next two months.

Let me know when it's out. 'Kay? Thanks. - Dested, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Exclusive? Like this article wont show up on any other news site? Cool.

"Unlike Google ’s integration of Google Talk with Gmail earlier this year, Yahoo is combining the products into a single interface."
Make some SENSE you dumbass spammer *****.
- augmentation, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2WTF??
- RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Nice, but Meebo is a lot better -- MSN, Yahoo, AOL and Jabber in one tight and effective interface.
- christiancadeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Uhh...you realize this is talking about integration with email as well and not a stand alone IM right?
- Matic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Google Talk is integrated into the GMail interface. I really like the way it is implemented also. However, I wish I could chat with people on AIM and GMail as I don't care about any other services. Google are you listening?
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you log into your google account from a different jabber client, you can load aim users, and speak to them from gtalk, on any client, including the web interface...pretty nifty ;)
BTW this article says that Gtalk and Gmail aren't in 1 interface, huh? - NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/google-talk-news/33739-connect-google-talk-aim-msn-yahoo.html
That should help your aim woos.

This statement is patently false. - haggie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Hmmm, should I file this new functionality from Yahoo! under "Closing the Barn Door After the Horse Gets Out" or under "Day Late and a Dollar Short" or start a whole new folder for "Thanks, But I Use Google For That Now"
- -dXs-, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2just because it works for google doesn't mean it'll work for every body.
yahoo should try coming up with something innovative and fresh instead of playing catch-up and calling it new and explaining the difference. - hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Finally I can say this.
"Google's been doing this for months. Yahoo's just playing catch-up."- diggmaddy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Exactly. This sounds so much like Mac and Windows. Apple says "Tomorrow's operating system, Today" and 3 years later, windows catches up, while Mac has moved ahead :D
- infowar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Although Google has been doing this with GMAIL. I think Yahoo has a nice interface, and better design elements.
- trogdor8667, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0As long as it's not directly integrated in (say, in the same window). If it is, no more Yahoo! mail for me at work *sigh*
- nougat98, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1will the web interface be encrypted?
- thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Ah yes...the Google fanboys are out in full-effect with their reflex "they stole the idea from Google" arguments I see. Just one small detail most of you forgot...Yahoo's (mail & chat) user base is a lot larger than Google's. So, this feature will reach a wider audience than Google talk.
And please, stop acting like Google invented every service they offer.
They pretty much pulled an "us too" on the following services:
Google News (MSN, Yahoo News)
Google Notebook (Yahoo Notepad)
Google Talk (the service itself, not the idea to integrate it into email) (Yahoo, MSN, AOL)
Google Search (Yahoo, AOL, MSN, Lycos, etc, etc)
Google Finance (Yahoo & MSN finance)
Blogger (NUMEROUS blog sites existed before blogger. Too many to name.)
Picasa (Flickr, Yahoo Photos)
Google Calendar (MSN, AOL, Yahoo Calendars)
Google Maps (Yahoo Maps)
Google Toolbar (AOL, MSN, Yahoo)
....and that's just off the top of my head. The list goes on and on. Google, Yahoo, MSN (and to a lesser extent AOL) are what's called WEB SERVICES COMPANIES. So it's a no-brainer that they'll *copy* each other to a certain extent. Stop complaining, it's YOU (the customer) that benefits.
/rant- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3While there is often a fair amount of google fanboyism on Digg, in this case, you're just wrong. As of now, there is one post that has no real substance patting google on the back. The others are either a reasonable discussion or pointing out that the article and summary are wrong when they say they suggest that gmail and google talk are not integrated into one interface.
There will be plenty of threads where you can let go your mighty insults upon the google fanboys, but in this case you're premature.

- thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yup, pointing out facts that aren't in Google's favor = automatic Digg down.
Would any kind soul who dugg me down care to explain why? Everything I said is true.- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Your comment that was dugg down is not relevant to the discussion, is arrogant, and is insulting.
And I didn't even digg you down. I did however respond.
- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Your comment that was dugg down is not relevant to the discussion, is arrogant, and is insulting.
- jkr06, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ok, since yahoo mail topic came along...I just found out today that I could no longer access yahoo mail. Which NEVER happened before. Not when I gave the correct password!! And mine is the 3rd case after 2 of my colleagues had the same problem. This coincidence seemed weird. Searched for any similar incidents lately - since 3 hacked/problem accounts in like 1 month among the people I work with seemed freakish - but found none.
Anyone else faced similar problems? After this incident, I dread to use yahoo mail anymore.(oh, I forgot to add that luckily I could recover my account). - gamedigger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Google talk is integrated into Gmail. Buried as inaccurate... and there's no such thing as a yahoo fanboy. Anyone pushing yahoo tech over google tech in a thread such as this one is probably being paid by somebody to do so or is just trolling. Nothing against Yahoo, they're just being beaten fair and square by Google, and that's pretty universally accepted.
Talk about copying technology? What did -every- search engine do after google rolled out? Gee, that yahoo search looks a LOT like google, and what's this? Identical context ads, placed in an identical place? Hey, I'd have done the same thing if I was Yahoo, but let's call a spade a spade. - thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@dmorel & others.
So, I'm guessing you guys missed these?
"yahoo should try coming up with something innovative and fresh instead of playing catch-up and calling it new and explaining the difference."
...and
"Hmmm, should I file this new functionality from Yahoo! under "Closing the Barn Door After the Horse Gets Out" or under "Day Late and a Dollar Short" or start a whole new folder for "Thanks, But I Use Google For That Now""
Based on those (and a few others) my comment is very relevant to the topic at hand.
Also, my comment wasn't meant to be insulting, but if you found it as such, then you're probably a Google fanboy. Disagreeing with me is fine, it's the rampant fanboyism here that irks me.- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The barn door comment was the one I was going to give you as fanboyism, the first comment you quote stays with the theme that the technology in this article really does already exist with gmail/talk and it's a fair critique. You didn't quote any others, because no others existed when you wrote your comment.
I'm not a fanboy of anyone. In fact, I've always felt that yahoo played an extremely important role in the development of the web. They were one of the first major hubs (outside of AOL) to bring the web mainstream. Until alta vista took over, they were the best of breed search engine. Today, they deliver a fantastic network of resources that a lot of people probably don't even know about (design patterns, UI Library, et all)...
Your comment was insulting because it was written in such a way to suggest that you are a better person than all the crazy fanboys who had posted previously. A suggestion I am not inclined to agree with.
- dmorel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The barn door comment was the one I was going to give you as fanboyism, the first comment you quote stays with the theme that the technology in this article really does already exist with gmail/talk and it's a fair critique. - thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I can see your point but please, who are you to tell me what I meant by my earlier post?
I'm thinking I would know, since I wrote it. Again, if you disagree than fine. I'm not trying to win anyone over with my opinion here. Assuming you're familiar with Digg, I'm sure you'd know the folly of such. That would be why I ended my first post with "/rant". Just purely my two man..but take from it what you will.
You're right about there not being any others to quote in this thread...and? Was it really necessary to search Digg and find more "we love Google" posts just to make my point?
Moving on, I wasn't accusing you specifically of being a fanboy. Just saying that if you found what I said offensive then you probably are. And that still stands. A fair statement considering it's painfully obvious my post was targeted at said fanboys, and nothing more.
Again, take from it what you will.
Have a good one.
