- ubenjammin2, on 11/05/2008, -28/+124I don't digg murdering people that think differently than I do.
- holyskeleton, on 11/05/2008, -19/+97First blood!
- JonnyClash, on 11/06/2008, -9/+61Did he drop any good loot?
- ZeMeisterstuck, on 11/06/2008, -9/+43***** the MPAA/RIAA !
- onlysoma, on 11/06/2008, -6/+38I really don't understand how anyone can be in favor of murdering someone, regardless of the circumstances. My condolences to his family and friends.
That's still not gonna stop me from seeding any amount of torrents, ever. - eRenee, on 11/05/2008, -5/+35Musical piracy? deadly to oppose in Asia.
- lendrick, on 11/06/2008, -1/+26Wow.
On the whole, it's not surprising. Sure, we don't like those people here, but run of the mill citizens who pirate movies aren't hardened criminals (despite what the movie studios would have us believe). On the other hand, mafia types who bootleg movies for tons of cash can be really dangerous. It's possible he disrupted someone's bootlegging operation and was taken out because of it. - inactive, on 11/05/2008, -48/+69(AND NOTHING OF VALUE WAS LOST)
- sipsyrup, on 11/06/2008, -4/+24I wouldn't call him an ordinary guy if he was described as a 'anti-piracy hero'...
He was obviously super-MPAA-man (sumpaan?), and his only weakness was bullets. - jtbell04, on 11/06/2008, -3/+19Explain to me how dying is a virtue of any kind. You should expect to be treated the same in death as in life, get over it.
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -9/+24He be restin in Davey Jones' locker now. Arrrrrrrrr.
- birch25, on 11/06/2008, -14/+28i'm prepared to get dugg down, but i sometimes find the lack of humanity on digg disturbing. an ordinary guy was murdered...cue the jokes?
- jtbell04, on 11/06/2008, -2/+16YOU WOULDN'T MURDER A BABY
- JonnyClash, on 11/06/2008, -5/+19Yes.
- mst3kcrow, on 11/06/2008, -1/+14Not that it necessarily applies in this case but you're a proponent of the Nuremburg defense?
- meed, on 11/06/2008, -4/+17The problem with most people making jokes here is that they don't understand that there really are two types of piracy.
Type one is the "lets everyone have a copy for free" type of piracy, The piratebay is a great example of that.
Type two is the "Lets make copies and sell them for a profit" type of piracy.
The person killed was fighting type #2. This was a very sad thing to happen, a man died. His goal was to stop people from making crappy copies and selling them to the public, often passing them off as legitimate copies. Not only cheating the content owners but the consumer too. - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -6/+19pew pew pew...
- megagram, on 11/06/2008, -5/+18Don't know why you're getting Dugg down. People are forgetting that this was a cold-blooded murder and a life was lost.
- dsmx, on 11/05/2008, -11/+23I'm not sure how I should feel about this sure it's tragic that he's dead, however it's thanks to people like him that were in the situation now. I suppose I should feel sad but I just can't bring myself to care about people like him.
- Tiak, on 11/06/2008, -1/+13...I was totally going to digg down all of the callous jackass comments in this topic... Then I saw this one.
- pimphofoo, on 11/06/2008, -2/+13" died by a single shot from a sawn-off shotgun. The killer escaped. Police are investigating the possibility that this was an assassination."
An assassination as opposed to what, an over-aggressive massage? - catsaregrey, on 11/06/2008, -8/+19if you want to pirate, do it.
if you don't, don't.
how about we just leave it at that. there's really no need to celebrate a brutal murder like this. - Antz0rz, on 11/06/2008, -2/+13I wouldn't?
- plainOldFool, on 11/06/2008, -16/+27Holy *****, what the hell is the matter with you people. I know I'm going to be buried and that is freaking sad. You ***** are joking and celebrating someone being murdered? For ***** sake.
- jtbell04, on 11/06/2008, -1/+11+3 Bag of Douchery.
- Aensland, on 11/06/2008, -0/+10Exactly. All these asstards who are cheering this death are missing the ***** point.
I've lived in this region (southeast asia) for years. Enforcement is very much concentrated on the real life "pirates", i.e. the criminal gangs which operate huge counterfeiting syndicates. *THEY* are the real problem, which the authorities here are CORRECTLY going after... unlike in America where your ***** MPAA lawyers go after dead grandmothers and girl scouts. - JonnyClash, on 11/06/2008, -8/+18Everyone should be murdered for doing their job.
Everyone. - dvsbastard, on 11/06/2008, -19/+28No one should be murdered for just doing their job...
- jtbell04, on 11/06/2008, -3/+12A SANE PERSON WOULDN'T MURDER A BABY.
- DantheMan1107, on 11/06/2008, -1/+9I think you missed the joke. Nice attempt though.
- tawnee, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8Three kids lost a father, thats something.
- saphyrre, on 11/05/2008, -8/+16Don't touch my pc!!!... :)
- HonestAbe, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7You need to read up on the origins of copyright law, methinks.
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -4/+11Felled by a torrent of bullets.
- TaylorSPL, on 11/06/2008, -4/+11The pirates they're talking about are gangsters and organized crime. You know the one's that are burning/stealing copies and selling them for their own profit. Which is completely different from file sharing, since we don't murder people...yet.
- Chrontius, on 11/06/2008, -3/+10Let me sum up what you all are thinking:
"I've never killed a man, but I've read many an obituary with a great deal of satisfaction."
- Sam Clemens, AKA Mark Twain
I'm honestly surprised it took this long. All it'd take is one pissed off defendant who was willing to rationally make the decision that pleading their case normally would be more miserable than either dealing with the criminal court, or giving a beretta a blowjob. Yeah, it's bent, but there's a lot of crazy people out there. The number of eligible individuals increases when you count those willing to consider the effects shotgun lawsuits* have on innocent bystanders who get sued, and at some point the crazies come out.
(Edit: Wait, asia - triad territory. Take this with a grain of salt, I was spacing when I wrote this)
Now there are three things they can do: They can step up eforcement, they can dial it back, or they can do nothing.
If they step it up, how will people respond? Probably depends on if they start prosecuting their lawsuits with 'dynamic entry teams' or just start suing more people.
If they do nothing, will more MAFIAA honchos get killed?
If they dial it back, will the other Mafia step up industrial piracy? - cumeansibyl, on 11/06/2008, -3/+10He was the one murdering people that think differently. The RIAA, MPAA, IFPI, etc. are the ones ruining people's lives because they had different thoughts on piracy. Instead of just one life ruined, they ruined thousands. Surely this one life is much less than those thousands that the RIAA etc. sued. Now the tables are turned. In this fight against the MAFIAA versus the mafia, both sides lose, and neither should be mourned.
- Emachine, on 11/06/2008, -3/+9..so the killer thought it would cancel out.
- Corte, on 11/06/2008, -3/+9I like that Torrentfreak covered the story and weren't total jackasses about it. Just because they oppose you doesn't mean you should be a dick about them dying; show some respect.
- Aensland, on 11/06/2008, -2/+8Enforcement in this region is usually against the REAL "pirates", i.e. criminal networks who make a living from counterfeiting stuff. Not your average limp-wristed torrenter here on digg. I.e. this guy went up against real, organised criminals... not like your pansy-assed lawyers who sic lawsuits on dead grandmothers and preteens.
***** YOU. - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -4/+10***** the MPAA!!!!!!!!!!!
- ZombieSociety, on 11/06/2008, -1/+7YOU WOULDN'T MURDER THIS JOKE.
- Arramol, on 11/06/2008, -0/+5In all honesty, as sickening as I find it, I wondered how long it would be before some lawsuit victim snapped and turned to violence in their desperation. This looks more likely to me to be a hit from a criminal organization that didn't like having its profits cut into, but even so, as heavy-handed as the RIAA/MPAA have been, I've always thought it was only a matter of time before somebody facing total financial ruin got desperate, decided they had nothing left to lose, and picked up a gun. I'm not justifying it, of course, but I do have to say that this was not an unpredictable outcome.
- dbzssj44676, on 11/06/2008, -6/+11OH *****... I JUST WROTE HIS NAME IN THE NOTEBOOK I FOUND!
idk what to say - tacojohn48, on 11/06/2008, -3/+8We can't acknowledge that human life is worth something. If human life is important then abortion would be wrong and we can't have that. (Preparing to get dugg down and who else could try to shift focus like this)
- LoveWidescreen, on 11/06/2008, -1/+6Perhaps you should take what you just said then go back to see the absolute vile things that were said by Diggers when Tony Snow lost his life to cancer.
"Human life is a human life, it shouldn't matter that he disagreed with you" indeed. - MarkOfTheDead, on 11/06/2008, -2/+7The day they stop going after innocent people with insanely unaffordable blanket lawsuits and settlements and stick to prosecuting real rings like these will be the day I star looking at them like human beings and not money vacuums using federal court systems as their power supply.
- MasterMahan, on 11/06/2008, -2/+7The killer escaped? My god... this can only be the first sign of a pirate/ninja alliance! They'll be unstoppable!
- HonestAbe, on 11/06/2008, -1/+5I vas just followink orders!
