Um...misleading title? - joebus, on 02/05/2008, -1/+25Is it true if you don't use it, you lose it?
- JoeRitze, on 02/05/2008, -0/+20Hello, God.... Are you there God?... I know it's been a while since I've spoken to you, but will you PLEASE rig the auction so that Google wins!!!! I promise You the use of the phrase "God Dammit" will decrease drastically if people don't have to put up wit 2 or 3 telecoms controlling all the access to the digital world.
- dreicher, on 02/05/2008, -2/+18...and, God, you can even take back the Giants win if need be.
- WarMace, on 02/05/2008, -0/+16Yay, now light up that dark fiber and give us some cheap wireless web lovin'!!
- JSchwage, on 02/05/2008, -1/+15For some reason I still don't know some things after reading this article. I don't think it worked.
- bonjourmr, on 04/25/2008, -0/+14Why won't Molly sleep with me?
Oh Open Access, right.
Why won't Molly sleep with me? - addakorn, on 02/05/2008, -0/+13Dug down because your name scares me.....
- entrophize, on 02/05/2008, -1/+12I thought I was going to get to find out where babies come from and all I got was some BS about frequencies.
- dizilbdog, on 02/05/2008, -0/+11I don't think this spectrum will get much treatment if it's ATT or Verizon. They would just sit on it. I mean why do new stuff when people are buying up the old CDMA or GSM. I think the only company who for the greater good would make that Spectrum shine is "Google"
- Kratos76, on 02/05/2008, -0/+11Great article, useful info, ***** title.
- KipEvil, on 02/05/2008, -2/+11I think so, Brain, but... but if they called them sad meals kids wouldn't buy them.
- LilBoyLuver, on 02/05/2008, -1/+10Are there any other countries that have opened up the 700 mhz spectrum to anything other then television yet?
- hierophantus, on 02/05/2008, -1/+9Is that a serious question?
- Michypoo, on 02/05/2008, -0/+7Sale Price: $4,600,000,000.00
Shipping & Handling: US Postal Service Media Mail $3.50
Only $3.50 for shipping? What a deal! - MarkoBarko, on 02/05/2008, -0/+7when is this secret auction supposed to end?
- mGARANDEUR1, on 02/05/2008, -0/+7Yeah I would like to see Google win that bandwidth. They would probably give everyone wireless as long as the homepage was google lol. I think they would make it open source, however they would still be raking in ***** loads of money.
- LilBoyLuver, on 02/05/2008, -0/+6If its a stupid question you can digg me down but at least tell me the answer.
- AbsurdParadox, on 02/05/2008, -1/+7What never ceases to amaze me is that so few people seem to question whether or not the government even has a right to lay claim to radio frequencies in the first place.
- WhiteRaven, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5People are seriously over-selling the prospects for the 700MHz spectrum. Yes, it's good over distance and penetrates buildings etc but it's actually pretty limited in the data it can carry. It may work for basic cell-phone type service but it's not ever going be used for data rates much higher than that.
- Bodhinature, on 02/05/2008, -0/+5Yes, but if the large corps take wireless and everyone else can take the wired. They'd be signing their own death warrants. Who cares if elites use their own bandwidth if everyone else can organize using land lines?
- dreicher, on 02/05/2008, -1/+5Seems like a much better potential ROI for Microsoft's $44B than Yahoo...just saying is all.
- RoshanK, on 02/06/2008, -1/+4well when a man and a woman love each other very much, the man sticks his penis into the woman's vagina repeatedly. And that's what a frequency.....wait nvm.
- Enuratique, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3When all blocks of spectrum have received no more bids for X # of rounds... I think there is still activity on some of the regional spectrum blocks... These auctions typically take around 4-6 weeks to complete so don't expect any kind of unveiling until the end of February at the earliest
- subsistenc3, on 02/06/2008, -1/+3Yah. I still wanna know where babies come from, and I'm afraid to ask. Can someone answer for me?
K digg this down. entrophize already asked. - Tiak, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Also see: http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssTechMediaTeleco ...
- Jalh, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2no is not
- RadicalEdward, on 02/05/2008, -3/+4LMFAO!!!!!!
- CrazedLeper, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Get ready for an outrage. Somebody is going to steer this thing toward AT&T or Verizon. Google isn't playing ball right now.
- CrazedLeper, on 02/05/2008, -2/+3No, I found him wiggling about sticking halfway out of a turd just after I flushed. He was on his way down at first but managed to get loose when the turd broke. He started clinging to the rim so I got the toilet brush to push him down. Wouldn't you know it, his daddy and his friends were already in the the toilet brush and ... well you know the rest.

- summersez, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Thank you for the clear, concise explanation. It was helpful.
- psykiv, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Dugg for the ebay-like image.
- Enuratique, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2I commented on an earlier DIGG article on this subject before the auction started cautiously optimistic about Google. I share the same sentiment all of you do that Google acquiring the large C block is the best outcome for the consumer... But if you look at the bid history (http://wireless.fcc.gov/auctions/default.htm?job=a ... the last bid for the C block was in round 17 (they're now on Round 36) for $4.7 Billion... Activity stopped once the $4.6 Billion threshold had been crossed. This leads me to believe, unfortunately, that Google goaded someone (most likely Verizon in this case) to make the bid that put it over the $4.6 Billion threshold - ensuring the open access requirements - without having to put up any upfront cash. It would appear on the surface that Google did want the analysts expected.
Ultimately I hope I'm wrong but I have to suspect if it were Google's bid that pushed it over the threshold then Verizon would continue to outbid them. Why bid in the first place if you weren't serious about acquiring that spectrum? It is "beach front property" after all.
Or perhaps Google is going to be a snake in the grass... As time goes on with no activity, the minimum bid decreases... It would be funny to see Google snipe the spectrum right out from underneath Verizon. (Yes, this isn't eBay, and any bid automatically extends the auction and I would hope all bidding parties are notified of being outbid) - maveric101, on 02/08/2008, -0/+0thanks, but - when did engadget ever run out of bandwidth?
- dupswapdrop, on 02/05/2008, -2/+2The big boys are going to lockup the Internet so that you give them the gold and they give you a pile of poop!
- kcornwell, on 02/06/2008, -1/+1don't ask, http://www.googleitbitch.com
- moletimer, on 02/05/2008, -1/+1But....I'm still confused.
- sarixe, on 02/05/2008, -4/+2yes.
- RottenJalapeno, on 02/06/2008, -3/+0I just put in my bid... I bet I could pick up alot of chicks with that much bandwidth eh?
- geeshock, on 02/05/2008, -18/+3Ah yes....but is Bush an alien from outer space?
