- ryan83189, on 01/14/2009, -1/+92Ir was probably Tesla who invented it, Edison just took the credit.
- rebotfc, on 01/14/2009, -2/+89So Edison destroys Tesla and creates the EULA, is this the most evil man in the history of science?
- t3hNinj4, on 01/15/2009, -2/+52Yet more proof that Edison is an *****, not that we really needed any.
- mnortei, on 01/15/2009, -0/+36I bet no one read them then either
- mrgeekguy, on 01/15/2009, -0/+27Here's what happens when you disreguard the EULA:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4GYg-5AdRw - a1cd, on 01/15/2009, -0/+20I didnt read it.. Just Like I dont read any other EULA.
- keatonkeaton998, on 01/15/2009, -3/+21***** THE EIAA!
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -11/+29Mr. Baby Man? I thought he was banned?
- gixxer600, on 01/15/2009, -3/+18he was a dick the best "science" he did was trial and error he knew nothing of math or u know thinking about ***** before u do it...nikola telsa is where its at
- craftyguy, on 01/15/2009, -1/+15typo by submitter on title, should read: "End User License Agreement: Stolen by Edison?"
- ricksite, on 01/15/2009, -1/+15I wouldn't peg that on Tesla. He gave his inventions to the world. I think Edison really did invent that.
- SpectreFire, on 01/15/2009, -1/+15Edison you *****!
- deweyhewson, on 01/15/2009, -1/+14Study the true history about him and you'll see it isn't propaganda.
- Bauer22, on 01/15/2009, -4/+16Tony Almedia? I thought he was dead?
- psion01, on 01/15/2009, -0/+12Tesla said of Edison:
“If Edison had a needle to find in a haystack, he would proceed at once with the diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. I was a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety per cent of his labor.” - ricksite, on 01/15/2009, -0/+12More like "tried to destroy Tesla".
- JaredMcCammon, on 01/15/2009, -0/+11tesla 500,000
edison -20 - Hetman, on 01/15/2009, -0/+10He called Tesla a criminal for trying to use it. That is why he had to invent a different type of light bulb to illuminate the chicago world.
- a1cd, on 01/15/2009, -1/+10Its alright though, while Edison died Tesla lives on as a kick ass vampire.
(nerdy sanctuary reference :) ) - fellman, on 01/15/2009, -6/+15Edison sucks.
- valis, on 01/15/2009, -1/+10It's common knowledge that Edison was a rascal quite willing to do anything to protect his IP and/or destroy his competition (Tesla comes to mind, and Edison's dramatic and public disdain of alternating current - publicly killing a dog, if I remember, to make his point.) There is no doubt that Edison deserves his place in history as one of the greatest inventors of the 19th century - and as one of the earliest pervayors of predatory commercialism.
- psion01, on 01/15/2009, -0/+9Not just dogs, but an elephant, too. And let's not forget the electric chair -- a clever bit of propaganda produced by Edison to sway people away from AC and towards Edison's inferior DC designs.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8people who confuse then and than.
- ricksite, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8Because he used Tesla's AC electricity to electrocute dogs to try to convince people that AC was dangerous. Do you need more reason?
- Hetman, on 01/15/2009, -1/+9It is called alternating current. And it had nothing to do with Edison.
- ligyron, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8...I don't know where to start with you
- ricksite, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7Good point...except the part about him inventing he light bulb...because he didn't.
- deweyhewson, on 01/15/2009, -2/+9Edison was not really a brilliant scientist, but he sure was quite adept at stealing from and slandering those who were.
Basically, a brilliant businessman. - sghod1212, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7If Edison got his way electricity would be too expensive to use.
- LaughingMan89, on 01/15/2009, -1/+8I get the feeling that most digger's hatred towards the EULA is entirely caused by the extra click it necessitates during installs. (Yes, I know that occasionally they make you scroll to the bottom, too.)
- JROXZ, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7Gonna go torrent that *****!!!
- awolfe91, on 01/15/2009, -0/+6Ha ha ha... TV references.
- xptoast, on 01/15/2009, -1/+7Once again I find that Edison was not really a genius but instead a giant douchenozzle.
- gixxer600, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5'brilliant scientist" ***** i dont even consider him a scientist period more like the homer Simpson episode trial and error
- WNW3, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6He didn't invent things, he bought patents from other people who invented things and presented them as his own. I'll grant you he was once of the best business men in the 19th century...wait shouldn't that be 20th century?
- sghod1212, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5Tesla created a better version of the light bulb before Edison. Tesla's the guy you should be thanking.
- Truth3, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6F*ck the RIAA
- jbmcb, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6He was very protective of his IP because there were practically no IP laws back then beyond the basic patent. Movie studios opened up in California to be as far away from Edison as possible, because they didn't want to pay him royalties for using his camera technology.
He was, absolutely, competitive to the point of near insanity, but in the realm of defending his patents, he had every cause to be manic, it was par for the course if you were an inventor and wished to make a living in those days. - username7410, on 01/15/2009, -4/+9***** EDISON!
- valis, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6He did invent things. And he did buy patents. He invented in the 19th century and flourished in his predatory business acumen in the 20th. He spanned the boundary of two centuries. I'm not a fan of Edison. Frankly, I think he went quite a distance toward thwarting inventiveness in others. He was arrogant and paranoid, according to the historians I have read.
Give a man praise for what he has done - give him criticism for what he has stolen. Any way you look at it, Edison made a major mark on American society and business ethics. - cambob76, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6Cuz Edison stole his ideas from others, right? Did I understand you correctly?
- joelito, on 01/15/2009, -1/+5He didn't killed a dog. He killed a ***** elephant!
- Ratteler, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4I dugg you up even though Sanctuary is barely watchable.
- zabean, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4im pretty sure he was making a joke here fellas
- mrmacky, on 01/15/2009, -1/+5inb4 electricity was always there it just had to be harnassed.
No seriously, someone digg this kid down... - sghod1212, on 01/15/2009, -1/+5Why? He only invented like 2 things in his entire life. Sure sources say that he has over 1000 inventions, but he only has his name on them. He hired people, paid them well, and gave them comfortable lives in exchange for putting his name on their inventions. The ~2 things that he did invent (including the light bulb) had already been created by someone else.
- Truth3, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4ouch! There's no more in the world now. :P
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Edison was a thieving prick..
- Stonekeeper, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Another reason to hate him.
