Education 2.0: The Best Social Networks for Students
wired.com — Back when your parents were in school, they actually had to initiate in-person conversations if they wanted a social life. Of course, that was when they weren't walking two miles to school, in the snow, uphill -- both ways.

- effektz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12None of those sites are really "geared towards students" specifically, MySpace? Facebook? Why not review actual social networks for students like http://mynoteit.com
- zwendkos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Facebook is absolutely geared towards students! That's where it all started, and they haven't strayed far from that track.
- mojaam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not to mention how mynoteit functionalities are already in use with a couple of facebook apps and they have a lot more "classmates"
- AzDraon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why? Because work blocks mynoteit.com, meanwhile Facebook and MySpace are A-OK. Not sure why though, that doesn't make sense.

- brangan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I agree with effektz.
I am sure Myspace is the ultimate place not to be for students. - maheshee11, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1Read this:

- canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1i'm waiting for someone to create the network facebook used to be. something that requires a .edu addy to join. i think fb left a huge hole in the market and someone should fill it. quickly.

Colleges and Universities themselves recommend it to their students!- mojaam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"Colleges and Universities themselves recommend it to their students!"
Not only that, a lot of your professors are on their. Especially the young ones.
- mojaam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"Colleges and Universities themselves recommend it to their students!"
- Bajeda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14This has nothing to do with students. Why not just call it "Another ***** usless list of the same social networks!"
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8None of them. They all distract you.

- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2i'm going to have to nominate this submission for the "holy crap, your description and title are that long and i still have no ***** clue what your article is about" award.
- GiGiinGA, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Facebook Fur Sure. I'd also add Kaneva.com. Besides the wonderful web 2.0 social stuff there is an integrated 3D virtual world.
- froinlaven, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Facebook was really the original social network for (college) students. Also, while I'm here,
http://apps.facebook.com/notecentric/
a great new facebook app for students - robinxi84, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Social networks will be everywhere... we here in China also have a "Chinese Facebook" called xiaonei .(I doubt that they copied the design of Facebook.)
- plnegative1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you still have to talk to people to meet them you nerds
- rkiga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thank you wired! to think i would have lived my life never learning about myspace and facebook if not for this article
- Stonekeeper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow. These are all sites you _wouldn't_ want your students on. There was a documentary by panorama (I think it was them) on the dangers of open social networking and included most of this list. They didn't mention elgg! This is "myspace for your servers" and allows students to have social networking within your establishment (or out if you want external access). This allows students to collaborate with other students to jointly work on things. After all, if it doesn't improve your _education_, what is the point?
- dave1010, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This isn't Education at all. For education, try something like ELGG (http://www.elgg.org) or DrupalEd (http://www.drupaled.org).
- PeterGi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Great article. I loved it. Do you Guys think that maybe it's a sign of my hardcore social networks addiction? The thing is.. I can't believe that wired reviewed all these networks and didn't mention the way to control all social network straight from your desktop. 8hands is an aggregation software that helps you keep in touch with your friends. If you liked this article, you should try 8hands http://www.8hands.com
