Easy Digg comment moderation fraud

davidmcmanus.com — I've found a bug in digg.com. A flaw in the way I 'digg' a comment, by clicking the thumbs up icon, allows me to mark up a comment multiple times.

  • GamerSmurf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I've noticed this before. But, if you looked more into it, you don't actually bump up/down a comment more than once. Try doing it and you notice it go a few time but refresh and notice that it only did it once.

  • Everen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Nevermind. GamerSmurf is correct. If you rapid-fire click the Thumbs Up button 5 times, you'll see +6 (assuming that it was +1 before). Upon refresh, it's +2.
    I'm going to shut up now.

  • exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2as mentioned previously in this thread... it's just an illusion. This has been discussed many times before on digg. If you rfresh the page you will see that the person only goes up by one.

    As author of the original report, I am bound to say that I was initially (technically) wrong but perhaps this brings up another debate about the whole AJAX thing - that server-side interaction can feel/be portrayed as client-side interaction when it *isn't*.
    Or is this just bad AJAX impementation?
    I take advice.
