- Rollic, on 09/18/2008, -5/+94You gotta love a president who is more concerned about protecting corporations from litigation and covering up his civil liberties violations than, you know, LEADING the country or trying to deal with the nightmare economic and foreign policy issues that his inept government created. Really glad lame duck George is keeping his priorities consistent.
- jodimcmullen, on 09/18/2008, -4/+84EFF is a great organization. Help them if you can.
- nymbot, on 09/18/2008, -6/+68Digg this up if you want the government to stop reading your email and recording your phone calls.
- invalidnot4long, on 09/18/2008, -4/+54that's right, if i want my phone wiretapped i'll do it myself....C:
- vikramdeo, on 09/18/2008, -2/+44I agree, whats this kind of spying giving them man, terrorists are doing what they do...all this does not help at all!!!
- XISUPERMANIX, on 09/18/2008, -5/+38Nothing will happen, probably won't even show up. Remember Karl Rove?
- yngtimmy, on 09/18/2008, -7/+40Gotta love it when Obama voted for telecom immunity. Changity change change.
- pingpants, on 09/18/2008, -2/+24eff ftw
- pintomp3, on 09/18/2008, -2/+21time to make another donation to the EFF.
- pintomp3, on 09/18/2008, -3/+21that's why i'm voting for mccain. he is opposed to telecom immunity ... oh wait.
- swrostmore, on 09/18/2008, -2/+18False. Why would Attorney General Ashcroft, Deputy Attorney General Comey and FBI Director Mueller threaten to resign en-masse in 2004 over something that has "been going on for decades?"
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -2/+17i hate spys
- laserdog, on 09/18/2008, -1/+16You used to have to talk to a judge before doing it.
- HolmesSPH, on 09/18/2008, -13/+27not sure why people are to shocked its been going on for decades lol
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -5/+19RON PAUL /b/
Obama supports telecom immunity from lawsuits stemming from unwarranted wiretaps. Change, eh? - d1a1s1, on 09/18/2008, -0/+11I see this going about this |-----------| far
- gandhii, on 09/18/2008, -0/+10rogerse: idiot.
- WayneCA, on 09/18/2008, -1/+10I think they're doing it just to make a point, not because they'll win but because nobody else seems to care enough to hold these guys accountable.
- malex, on 09/18/2008, -0/+9I always thought that restraining the government's intrusion into the personal lives of citizens was a conservative position.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+9You joined digg on 9/14, and have done nothing but post comments about how much the dems & Obama suck.
Whats the pay-rate at the GOP? Do they encourage you to mix swearing and politics to make it more "accessible"? - homesickalien, on 09/18/2008, -1/+9Good luck with that.
- swrostmore, on 09/18/2008, -3/+11Unfortunately, when Congress voted to kill the telecom lawsuit by granting them retroactive immunity, they destroyed the only avenue of obtaining evidence of what happened. This EFF lawsuit will be thrown out for lack of evidence.
- tuartboy, on 09/18/2008, -1/+8The real question is: Will they sue Obama when he does exactly the same thing (if he wins)? He voted for it if you didn't know. If so, more power to them for attempting to represent the citizens of this country. If not, shame on them for playing politics under the guise of protecting civil liberties. I guess time will tell.
- muckemuck, on 09/19/2008, -0/+7He was against it before he was for it. .. or .. oh. heh.
Don't stay home angry - go vote and let that anger out. Vote for Chuck Baldwin, Bob Barr, Cynthia McKinney, or Ralph Nader for President. - gcnaddict, on 09/18/2008, -3/+10then he'll lose by default.
/joins lawsuit. - inactive, on 09/19/2008, -1/+8That's because terrorists aren't real. They just make them up to inject fear into you using the media.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+7You are correct. Wiretapping has been going on since the telegraph. It was done a lot in the US Civil War. It's nothing new. The only thing new is that the gov't is getting the telcos involved. The NSA and CIA have used sats for a number of years now to record ALL communications all over the world.
- Frost9999, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6In some countries, 2 of your friends might actually have died from that. China for example.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -1/+7they have balls 1+
- Gomez1856, on 09/18/2008, -2/+8The fact that this story has 632 diggs right now and "Will Fix Computer for Sexual Favors SFW " has 2994 absolutely sickens me.
- wacked, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6Somebody tell that to the NSA
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -3/+9So you are happy that they can just stick a mic up your ass for any reason?
- Skooma714, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6We need to do a spycheck. Somebody be a pyro for a sec.
- gandhii, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6I do not see how the retroactive immunity legislation converts a first person witness into something other than evidence. Please explain yourself.
- 9966, on 09/18/2008, -4/+9Sorry, but Bush & Co. are inEFFable.
- Whirly5, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5Its still ***** and still illegal..
- deadmoo, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5I am digging you down because of the deregulation of banks bit.
- porkman385, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5woo my claim is proven. TAKE THAT those of you who dugg me down.
http://digg.com/tech_news/Pirate_Party_Official_Ra ... - Tehrab, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5Because the judicial branch of government lives for that kind of crap. Literally.
- BeefBaron, on 09/18/2008, -1/+6The Republican judge will just throw the case out.
- MWeather, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5Echelon follows the law, as far as anyone knows. Signal interception isn't the issue, it's whose signals are intercepted and what legal processes were or were not followed that is the issue.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -1/+6You joined digg on 9/14, and have done nothing but post comments about how much the dems & Obama suck.
Whats the pay-rate like at the GOP? - dalittle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5It is never over. This is a law and it can be reversed.
- sigg14, on 09/18/2008, -2/+7guess you never heard of Echelon
- gandhii, on 09/18/2008, -2/+7Which is completely irrelevant as to whether it is legal or not. And according to our Constitution, the law that supersedes all others, it is not.
- Kyzzyxx, on 09/18/2008, -3/+7If this is all you think they were doing, you are more dumb then your l33t speak name. You think the US Govt has created software designed to sift through mass amounts of data looking for key words just cause they wanted to take away your freedoms? If the govt were as creative at improving things as they were at being greedy, power hungry ***** this country would truly be great and not a joke.
- kingmanic, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4I heard the GOP itself was very Gay friendly. Probably have a good "Bath house" allowance.
- skingers, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4FTA:
"More updates to come later as warranted."
Unlike tapping which apparently does not need to be warranted... - swrostmore, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4@sigg14 Echelon operated under Congressional oversight from 1960-something until W. Bush took office. It was the original reason the FISA law was created - you know, the law Bush broke.
