- Braddeharder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+52I am glad this is happening. Ebay spams the Google ads. No, matter what you put in, even if their is nothing on ebay, ads will show up.
- NuPagady, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23Google launched "Google checkout" - competition for eBay's PayPal
eBay won't let Google Checkout to appear on eBay
Google announces "Google checkout freedom party"
eBay pulls their ads from google clearly telling "Google, shut the fcuk up". Google shares go down by 1%.
Google cancels "Google checkout freedom party".
Ok, I'm a little bit confused now. So who's the bully here? - mateo60, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Fine by me. If I did a Google search for the Kyoto Protocol, the first Google Ad would be "Find the Kyoto on eBay!".. They were spammers as far as I was concerned.
- Teku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22I dislike the ads for eBay on google.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20So are McDonald's and Target, but you still see them throwing millions at advertising.
- maleva, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Some of the eBay spam was amusing.
Google search: "slaves" = eBay ad: "Looking for slaves? Buy slaves on eBay!" - manicleek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Hope UK is next, fed up of seeing eBay pop up for every search I do
search: "Planets"
"Looking for cheap planets? try ebay" - rotten777, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14damnit i thought that was a real url. thanks for letting me down. you tease!

Don't be silly, WWWWI was Netscape vs IE. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12You know something submitted 18 hours ago is older than something submitted 17 hours ago right? So actually, the link you posted is a dupe of this. And even if it was the other way around, how is that 'several' hours.
THIS one precedes it by ONE hour. - holidaycardguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Ebay was also being slammed around at the Seattle SMX search expo this past week. People were rather vocal about how eBay seems to be showing up #1 on Google for a lot of items and people were asking "why does google love eBay so much"...
Who knows, but it may be some fall out from that as well. - Araxen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Hopefully Google makes their own auction site. Ebay has been the auction king for far too long.
- thewebguy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10while it's unlikely, i hope so too.
i'm pretty tired of ebay's reign.. - newsheatdotcom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Sounds more like a cat fight to me.

I'd hit it - Pseudorious, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11For you and all other scorned submitters:
If you write a poor description, you will be overlooked for those who do a better job. Read yours, then read what was selected. Do you see the difference? Yours says nothing specific and only editorializes whereas what was selected explains the issue then injects an opinion.
Best wins, not first. You'll find this applicable in life as well. - Mejogid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11@GawtMilk
I think he means that when you google terms that have nothing to do with eBay, you get eBay ads. One of them is 'magic powers'... you get my drift - http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=magic+powers . - brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15SHUT UP JUST SHUT UP
Even if that joke weren't as old as dirt and extremely overused, hardly anyone ever uses it in a context where it would be funny. Why don't you tell us how it's completely the opposite in Soviet Russia while you're at it? WOW! ZANY!!! - haydesigner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I'm thinking that redrock34 and nsmike know nothing about advertising and marketing.
- esteban, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I think this has been resolved by Google backing down: http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/13/ebay-stares-down-google-and-wins/
- ricepudd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Why bury the parent? It's about time eBay had some half-decent competition, and it's not as if Google have anything to lose now if eBay are no longer a customer...
- Ruqsaq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6who DOESN'T know about Coke, but they spend more money than anyone. Its all about BRAND my young grasshopper.
- halleyscomet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@Pseudorious
Good point.
The "first" article has a vague, sensationalist headline and a description that's just a rewording of that headline. The thread that made the front page has a clear, concise description that conveys actual information.
I used to get bent out of shape when an article I submitted was ignored when a link to the same story sent in later made the front page. I blamed all sorts of tinfoil hat scenarios, until I took a good hard look at what grated high and what was ignored.
I'm working on writing better headlines and descriptions, but it's a skill like any other, and you need practice. - TunaFishGangsta, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10auctions.google.com
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5look at what Pseudorious said further up...
- Gutterpunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Indeed! It pisses me off when everything I search for is for sale on eBay
- starcrunchfx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Removing adds from google has to hit ebay as well. I'm sure plenty of people find ebay items through google. Ebay sales should go down.
- LogicBomB, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Marketing is not about hitting a peak and stopping - that's a good way to ruin your business.
Marketing is about keeping the name in people's heads. In the height of fruitopia and snapple's marketing campaign you could barely turn around without seeing someone with one in their hands. Now, everyone still knows about it if you asked them but nobody thinks of it when they are thirsty.
Marketing is all about keeping the brands in people's faces. It's goal is not even to push product x or brand y, it's simply to keep your company at the front of people's minds so when they DO need a product, your name comes to their head first.
Marketing a lot like exercize - you might not notice initially when you start doing it but once you stop you will notice it in spades.
/3-year Business Admin - Marketing Major - bradleyland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4This is just the beginning of what will be many high-profile "conflict of interest" issues Google will face while moving forward. As Google expands its service offerings, it will inevitably step on competitor's toes, and it's not like this wasn't anticipated. Analysts have been speculating about this for some time.
What happens when Google Apps becomes a viable market competitor to Microsoft Office? Microsoft will feel pressure to remove their advertising from Google AdWords. Remember that ad revenue is what fuels Google's fire. It's the only money maker they've got right now. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7ebay.google.com
- odinfire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Hmmm... So eBay is doing an experiment to see how they fare without using Google adwords and will reinstate their Google adwords if their sales and profits drop too drastically...
So what then if Google refuses their business and decides not to let them reinstate their adwords. Off to MSN.. to Yahoo... it still wont be as effective.
eBay needs to lighten up. Ive sold on eBay for almost four years and they have made it so impossible to make a profit any longer that its quickly becoming a total sham.
eBay needs humbled. Period. - vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -1/+4eBay started it!
Well, they did in all honesty. eBay refuses to recognise GCheckout, which is fair really (afterall, they would lose money by doing so). You can't blame eBay for being difficult and you can't blame Google for wanting an opening market (after all, most of Google's products don't tie you in to other Google products). - ilikebike, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Sponsored Links:

www.ebay.com - Vandango, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Target competes with Walmart, Kmart, Sam's Club, etc..
McDonalds has to compete with Subway, BK, KFC, Taco Bell, etc...etc..
Coke has to compete with Pepsi, 7up, etc..
Ebay HAD to compete with Yahoo Auctions.
Google "needs" eBay more than eBay needs google. They probably decided their ad revenue was better spent elsewhere. They probably decided that spamming Google wasn't as effective as other types of web/tv adveritsing. - umrgregg, on 10/11/2007, -8/+11Calm down and step away from the keyboard.
There, isn't that nice?
Now go outside and get some fresh air. - StiGUP, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Good...It's about time someone stood up to ebay ..because I'm sick of them being a monopoly along with their evil partner paypal...both very corrupt in their ways..

Thanks for the link, and thanks for reminding me. :] - chrisc262, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2i highly doubt it is going to hurt google
i, too, am sick of ebay showing up in every search - gvonk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@MasterGrief - Anyone who doesn't recognize the quote has missed a classic moment in Simpsons history--Homer's trip to space as an astronaut! The quote is from the episode Deep Space Homer ( http://www.snpp.com/episodes/1F13.html )
News announcer Kent Brockman mistakes a floating ant in a space shuttle experiment floating close to the camera for a giant space ant:
"Ladies and gentlemen, uh, we've just lost the picture, but what we've seen speaks for itself. The Corvair spacecraft has apparently been taken over -- 'conquered' if you will -- by a master race of giant space ants. It's difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the captive earth men or merely enslave them. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves." - thewebguy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4and we all hate you
- MasterGrief, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Ah... I just looked it up. On VCPR Jan said "I for one welcome our new russian masters." - This may or may not be a reference to the true source, which is apparently The Simpsons. I love the Simpsons, but I didn't remember that particular quote.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm happy about this. eBay advertising was so much keyword spam when you were doing google searches.
"Looking for SKIN RASH? Visit eBay today and see!" - ThinkingMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Actually the real problem is that Google pulled this little stunt in Boston during the huge Ebay developer conference. That's the event for Ebay developers.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's always Yesterday's News™ on Digg!
- rkuchiki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1***** eBay and their triple-rape of the very people who make their existance - The sellers.
1. Listing fee
2. Final Value Fee
3. Paypal fee
Of course there is the optional 4. Scammer on ebay files paypal complaint, legitimate seller loses money and item. - techsmack, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Maybe this will push Google to make their own, better, online auction site.
- VodkaAvenger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Does this finally mean that we can look forward to Google Auctions, say goodbye to the eBay ad spam on Google Search, and get rid of the ***** eBay entries on Google Products? :-D
(please oh please let it be true) - MasterGrief, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2If I remember correctly, isn't it a reference to (I think her name was Jan) from Moms Against Popular Culture on Vice City Public Radio in GTA: Vice City? I seem to distinctly remember her saying, while on the topic of a russian invasion "I, for one, welcome our new russian overlords." Then she goes on to say "Did you know that people in india protest by setting themselves on FIRE? I tell you! I just might douse myself in kerosene the next time the kids are screaming for ice cream and pop."
(That last bit was only added because I thought it was very funny.) - dubled, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1So is Ebay going to reduce fees since they are not advertising as much?
