- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -8/+49In Sony's defense, they'll be shipping the same number of metric tons as Nintendo by the end of the year.
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Don't trust EA with any 'predictions'. If you need something to reference to, look at EA's predictions for BF2142.
- SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Ahh, so sony skipped on the whole worldwide release thing just so they can say they sold out.
I guess the next step in their scheme to world domination is to get everyone to buy a 360 and wii instead because all ps3's sold out. Damn those evil sony masterminds! - UnknownCzar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Won't stop folks from buying them.
Digg is home to the tech consumer who at least knows whats going on, even if the choose to ignore some facts..
The conversations I've heard going around in the non-tech world however implies that that PS3 will have "insane graphics." This baseless idea will help the PS3 succeed no matter what bad news... - SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I'm sorry, I live in Europe, but what's this playstation 3 you're talking about?
- jsanders, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17correct! who needs the HD-DVD drive? like 85% of household don't have an HDTV. plus, getting the HD-DVD drive for the 360 is cheaper than buying one standalone. you make the choice
- Andy92, on 01/15/2009, -13/+21I think that sony will miss the ps3 shipment numbers for this year.
But im getting a nintendo wii. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Yes. Badly.
- jsanders, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7they've run out already. it says coming soon
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Huh???
- 6pintsofbitter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Ukranian Tractor seems to be spamming every PS3 post with the same comment "PS3 Yawn/ Zelda wii FTW"
spare us - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7In this same interview, EA also estimated 900K-1.4M Wiis, not the 2M Nintendo is predicting for North America.
- jsanders, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15the 360 is equal to the ps3, but cheaper. wii is more awesome than the ps3.
with the 360 though, games will have had a year's head start. that means we're already in the second wave of games, sony's starting out with the first wave. - jsanders, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13how many times have we heard that joke
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Why would I want to connect a keyboard?
So I can play FPSes with a keyboard and mouse. Sony is supporting keyboards, but it doesn't appear the launch titles support keyboards and mice yet.
There are lots of people with Bluetooth headsets, and they'll work with the PS3. No need to give another $60 to MS like for the Xbox 360 wireless headset, just use the one you already have or buy one from a 3rd party.
How about wireless guitars? The wireless is proprietary on 360, so Guitar Hero isn't slated to have wireless guitars. With PS3, Red Octane can make their own wireless guitar (if they over go over to PS3), instead of having to beg MS to make one.
BluRay is tougher to justify. But I think that given that games on the 360 already are getting close to filling the disc, having a larger storage format makes sense. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is about 8GB and doesn't even have all the courses from the PS2/Xbox versions.
The first year of PS2 games were on CD. Nowadays, making a game in 650MB seems like a stretch. for PS2. With the screen getting 6x larger and memory getting 8x-16x larger, it doesn't make sense to me to for 360 to not have any more storage capacity than the previous generation. Yeah, you can make multi-disc games, but I don't look forward to that. - Ltgeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4keyboard --> linux anyone..
- JeffD, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Does anybody actually want a PS3?
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11That thing looks like a $700 panini maker.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8People wil see. It's only the vocal anti-Sony crowd online that hates PS3 for some reason. Now consider that there are about 100M PS2s in circulation and that regular consumers tend to be brand loyal with things they have liked in the past.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4No, it simply didn't have an interesting title (pro OR anti sony)!
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5What his thread proves is that it's more about the headline than the story. I posted this same info days ago:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/EA_estimates_2006_PS3_and_Wii_shipments_not_a_wide_disparity
But because it didn't have a negative Sony slant, it didn't get dugg up. Point being: If you want your stories promoted, say something negative about the Sony or simply insert Wii into the title. - revisrev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's a nice thought, but, they're losing money on each PS3 sold. Stocks may shoot up, but they won't be profiting off of the system. The question is, what do you have to buy in addition to the system before Sony sees a profit?
Also, I'm pretty sure both systems will succeed. I imagine that the Wii will sell the most due to it's mainstream appeal. When you look at people playing it it looks like a lot of fun, you can actually see the fun, which is the best kind of marketing. When you watch somebody play a game with a standard controller you might see a smile if they're not too busy to break a smile. The PS3 will sell to the videogame people, but so, most likely, will the Wii. Anyway you cut it there are enough people out there interested in both that both will most likely succeed. The 360 is the only one that I see that may start having problems soon. - dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4At around Christmas last year, the 360 was was welling for ~$900 on eBay. The highest bids were actually made on the launch day, or a couple days after for around ~$3000. Those prices were never seen again after launch.
I do not expect the PS3 to sell better at xmas than it would at launch. I think the highest bids are made by rich kids who want the latest toy before the rest of their friends. - dako, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Heheh, this reminds me of this comic:
http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=212 - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shortages are good for the company selling the product, they keep no inventory and can even inflate the price based on the demand.
- UKeTommyV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WOW and ea needed to tell us that? NO SH!T. i bet they have a huge room full of monkeys figuring that out. but hey i should trust ea for news.. and oh right over priced games full of spyware and spam. sure thing.
- BrewmasterC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Personally, I want one just to install linux and do Cell programming. It's not like Sony/IBM/Toshiba are coming out with cell desktops anytime soon. $600 isn't that bad for a cell desktop.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I prefer PC games due to the monitor resolution over TV. I also like PS2 mucho and cannot go the way of xbox due to their mickey mouse controller.
- Ammattiki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sony is currently extending the November release to Hong Kong and Taiwan. I doubt they would do this if they were having more problems with production.
- Sixotoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the 80s and 90s Sony Rocked! Ya have to give it to them. Since then, I'm not sure what happened. They just totally lost it. I know there are millions of fans of the PS2 out there but even the die hard anti MS folks have to admit that Sony has fumbled the ball. They are getting worse by the year at finding a customer base and better exponentially at alienating the customers they still cling to. Even if you hate MS give the xbox a whirl. Maybe it will give Sony a wake up call. Personally I don't play either. PC games have sooooo much more depth. But hey, if you are short on brain cells and heavy on cash then the PS3 just may be for U!
- jsanders, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8nope
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, I am getting one. The world doesn't just share your one narrow minded opinion, moron.
- broly1718, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2call customer service and say you need to change credit card info on the order. they will probably tell you it was a mistake.
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9@nixonrichard
I know the shortage is severe but only one unit? - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's totally legal. Do you think you have the right to buy stuff? Hell, you can even run an ad campaign with no product and no intention of making one.
It's astounding how lawyer-happy people are.
Besides, this isn't the case here. No one is sure exactly how many PS3s there will be, but there will be more than zero. - Almadiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Predictions by third parties are not very useful. They are not involved in the hardware production process. Nothing more than a rumor, and there are more than enough of those already.
- piratearggghhh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This sucks for Sony but for consumers it's not that bad....people will play Wii60 (Gears of War, Legend of Zelda and other AAA titles) while they wait for a price drop and/or AAA titles for the PS3. This is assuming everyone wants one.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, we all hate EA for their buggy games (referring to BF2, BF2142 etc). Even though EA ***** things up with games, they are the biggest games publisher I know. So them saying that they think the PS3 will miss it's production estimates (surprise surprise?) has some influence and probably will turn out to be true.
But you never know ey? - WhiskerTheMad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In other news, I predict that gravity will continue to operate for the remainder of the year 2006.
Everybody join in! - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2digg Sherlock Holmes ftw.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But what if hes right?
He seems to be after checking out some of the screenshots of Z. - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"Does anybody actually want a PS3?"
Sure, I mean, how many devices can run Linux!? - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4N64 suffered from rediculous shortages (even more than the PS3) and the PSX proved to be capable of delivering a better all-around experience. Nintendo shot itself in the foot with the cart format then.
- maytrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, PS3 games can really be considered in the 1.5 wave. Since presumably many of these titles would have been launch titles had the console launch on time in the Spring, they've just been given extra time to polish them up. I'd expect more from the PS3 launch titles than I would have from 360 launch titles.
And regardless of how launch titles stack up, what is really important is how do things compare to whats available today. - AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"People wil see. It's only the vocal anti-Sony crowd online that hates PS3 for some reason. Now consider that there are about 100M PS2s in circulation and that regular consumers tend to be brand loyal with things they have liked in the past."
Because that's exactly what happened with the N64. - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"The reason there aren't enough consoles shipped out is so the manufactor can say,"See, we sold all our units!" That looks very good for the company."
Yep, nothing helps a console's sales like not having any to sell. - Gutterpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ chriskzoo : Yes? You just countered the opinion that the PS3 was like the N64 by reinforcing that said opinion. Blu ray = cart. Wii = Better (gameplay) experience.
- maytrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, they are better for the consumers who are luck enough to buy it and sell it online for a profit. They are bad for Sony as it means fewer out in the world which translates to fewer titles sold which just means they make no money..
- Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and taking into account how sony has made it a company standard to lie to customers i would guess that EA's estimate is damn close.
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Regardless of what the majority public opinion was of N64, I had an absolute blast with mine. So many classics that have yet to be replaced in my heart. I hope with Wii Nintendo can again win my heart back.
My point? Even if PS3 is "third" this console generation, I don't care. I will probably end up getting one for the great games exclusive to the PlayStation line, just like I got an N64 and Gamecube for games exclusive to the Nintendo line.
Oh, and guess what? I also have a PS2! Amazing how it's possible to own more than one system, eh Digg? This console war has already become tiresome, and only one of the three systems in the "war" are out. -
