- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Boo whoo... everybody's crying over $2. Gee, I think its quite nice of them to let you play on THEIR network using THEIR server resources"
after YOU just spent FIFTY dollars on a HANDHELD title? I'd rather pay 55 dollars than have to give THEM my creditcard number. - RadicalBender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Rule: "From" contains "ea.com", mark as "Read", transfer to "Spam"
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.dodgeit.com
works every time. - Nighthawke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More than one way to to skin a cat... Spamcop.net! EA starts spamming your box, start firing off the messages to spamcop, watch them catch heat from all sides.
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is why I set up a second "Spam" account with gmail.
- NJOlson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This is why I set up a second "Spam" account with gmail."
That is what I did or just put in a phony address because you do not need to verify it. - krazedkaoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And if they stalk you say you'll slap them with a lawsuit if they wont leave you alone.
- hollywoodone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They did the same thing with Madden for the PSP.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SONY OR EA, I DON'T CARE I'VE GOT MY DS.
- angeljr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Boo whoo... everybody's crying over $2. Gee, I think its quite nice of them to let you play on THEIR network using THEIR server resources and all they ask is that you register and allow them to make up the cost by selling your contact info to others. I'm as much a fan of spam as I am of sliding down a hot metal playground slide with shorts on a sunny florida day so I avoid it by either paying fees for a service or giving out a "spam" address as others have suggested. Oh, try a Barracuda protected e-mail address, they rock!
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EA is one of the villains of the industry. This is well-known I think. People really should boycott them. Too bad they can't get off EA's crack!
Just put the game down, and say "***** you, EA!" Do you think you can do that? - NeuralOverload, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And that's why i never give out my real email. he he :)
mailinator.com all the way baby!
(they also provide other domains to use in case the default one is blocked.) - PhantomJM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is just like EA. I remember having to opt out of all kinds of crap just to play Burnout Revenge on my Xbox.
- krazedkaoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a spam e-mail address so I'd just give them that address. I never read any of it that goes there.
- Atroz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
No problem. Don't buy the game, you don't need it. EA needs you. They'll figure it out eventually. - kimzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is crap!! I hope this is stamped out of future releases.
Digg++ - TestFar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0www.pookmail.com
ea suck - seaner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For NHL 06 they said "pay us $2 or let ESPN spam you for free". I let ESPN spam me but they never sent a single thing.
- mdmetzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow now ea is blackmailing its customers.....
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jetablemail.com ftw! Or just a second gmail account.
- ReyBrujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bah, most people worship EA in US. They will collect both a lot of money and many addresses to spam.
- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"They got a damn monopoly on the console sports games."
They somehow seem to capture everyone's interest in them by adding a couple pixels of resolution to the textures on football player's helmets. No wonder they're rich, everyone buys into the upgraded graphics and plays the same ol' damn game - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I put my regular e-mail in when I signed up for FIFA 06, and I still haven't gotten anything. If I do, i just add EA's address to my spam in Gmail, and -poof- no more EA e-mails
- stray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe this is called extortion, or at least a corporate version of "give me your lunch money".
- Antz0rz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is why I have an email specifically for this.
- android8675, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old news, no digg.
All the 06 Sports games have this. And EA has taken over everything, get over it and play (or don't, your choice) - Kissitfatty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'm not intending to start a heated thread, just look at the whole picture. You can't blame EA for this; it's corporate accounting practices which force EA to reconcile the cost of having an online service beyond what the actual game costs. If it were them providing downloadable servers; then there wouldn't be a sponsorship/$2 requirement -- but because they provide an ongoing service, EA has to account for those costs or they'll end up Enron-ing."
Not a fanboy or anything but then how does nintendo make a profit..... cheaper games, free online....they are rich bitch!!! - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the only reason to have a gmail account
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EA sucks but this is just overreacting. This is probably how they pay for the servers and stuff. And as everyone else has pointed out, this is easy to avoid.
- Wolfman18336, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a pretty lame threat. I use a spamblocker tool on my email or else I would just get a phoney email adress
- gameminded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wrote about it on http://www.gameminded.com
- lofi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This really isn't such a bad deal.. they are letting you play on their servers for free!! you don't have to pay for any subscription service and yo ucan play whenver you like. Also you can make up an e-mail address as they don't actually send you any confirmation link to click on or anything. Seriously, people are making way too big of a deal out of this, and nobody really cares as long as they can play Madden 06 online.
- WDot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@lofi: The DS is pulling no such crap. And they are a smaller company than Sony. There are no ads in Mario Kart, so that's where I'm putting my hours.
- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0idiots will still buy madden *****.
- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0idiots will still but madden *****.
- Axios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, EA has been doing this for a while. I just used a dummy Gmail account.
- stisev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BOYCOTT EA
- CRobAKAChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who gives about the Ds nintendo is wack no doubt about it
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like an email hoax...
- bi0metric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Figures!g
- ross., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0UPDATE:
"I also typed up the ESPN Sponsorship agreement for your perusal. I didn’t type up the 22 page Privacy Policy from ESPN which says things like: ESPN can share your personal information with other subsidiaries of The Walt Disney Company and third parties so they they can send you promotional material. (They can do this through email, mail or “other means”… like phone perhaps.)"
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/psp/pay-to-play-fight-night-3-online-the-details-155748.php - Justin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EA is a piece of *****! They want to take over everything!
- h00ligan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0unreal - someone needs to start a jack thompson style campaign.
- arzdb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old news... this has happened in the past like 6 months for a lot of EA Sports games...
- AlexPAdams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It isn't free to play most games online people! There is a subscription fee, just like there is a subscription fee to Xbox Live! EA is giving you a way around that fee, which you can take or leave.
- PhantomJM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@AlexPAdams
I've already paid for my subscription to Xbox Live as well as paid for my copy of Burnout Revenge. Yet, they still tried to get me on their mailing lists before I could play their damn game. EA is taking their marketing BS too far lately. This example is just more on the pile. Enough is enough. - VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is with any games, that are sports related, because their content provider is espn sports...
