- Capta1nA, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39how long until digg insurance policies for hosting happens?
- dizzyd_23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39If you get hit by boingboing users, is that getting boinked?
- ThirstyFerret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31What an excellent run-down.
I dare not imagine what the bandwidth bill for all that is... - Capta1nA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21boinked like never before
- blackbelt88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21wow, that's almost 11,000 gigs of bandwidth in 4 days. It's hard to imagine using that much bandwidth period, let alone in 4 days.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21"56,800 uniques over the 4 days"
"Bandwidth: ~10,818 GB"
He is claiming that eash visitor used 190MB of bandwidth? Shens.
He must have confused GB with MB for the bandwidth data. 190KB per visitor seems more reasonable. - MrAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I just finished getting BoingBoinged with a light Digging at the end, and it's been fantastic fun. For the first time in five years, I'm over my bandwidth limit! I'm just glad Slashdot didn't pick up the story, or my server would be a molten pile of silicon goo by now. I shall endeavour to live my bandwidth nightmares vicariously through articles such as this from now on :)
- cavemonkey50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18You're *****.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17$10000 in bandwidth? id estimate that costing about $1000.
What i would really like to know are what are your adsense numbers? - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@Haplo
I was right with you on your first comment till you spammed your site a second time. If you want hits that bad come up with something worth our time. - N3LDAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18That would cost me $10,000 in bandwidth charges.
Rough. - diggmaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Expansion of Digg with so many different topics has taken a big hit on the strength of Digg effect. Most diggers are divided among different categories, bringing down the influence of digg effect drastically! Tech section still seems to be the strongest, but not as it was before digg v3. My $0.02
- ploink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Best part:
1) Mozilla, with 20777 users.
2) Internet Explorer, with 7115 users. - n3rrd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I appreciate that you didn't feel the need to link your site in your description! +digg
- neo17262, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I just ran the math when I saw those stats, and I have to agree with you, Riata. Thiis guys doesn't know his bits from his bytes. I think 3117.11MB would make a helluva lot more sense. I doubt this guy put much thought into this article. I mean, com'on, 190MB per user? Sounds like a bunch of hype.
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Be careful what you say, the digg community seems to love them, especially when the author doesn't know the difference between GB / MB and makes it sound like his site burns 3 *terrabyte* with just 24,000 visitors :-)
- rysolag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7doinged!!
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7We need a new term for /., Digg, and Boing Boing together. :)
- neo17262, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Did you really have to be told that firefox is number one in a techies heart? :) :)
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think digg is getting fewer click throughs per front page story because there is just so many stories now. Who has time to read all of 'em? Before, it seemed like there was maybe 10 a day, now there are many more, so the links get pushed off the front page pretty quickly.
- rysolag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4servers aren't like digg stories; you can't bury them.
- jlabs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"What an excellent run-down.
I dare not imagine what the bandwidth bill for all that is... "
probaby not too much. You can get shared hosting providers that give you 1000 gig for $10-$15/month. A slashdotting, digging, or boingboinging will only last a couple of days and most likely only use up a couple of gig of bandwidth...Now imagine how much it costs digg.com in bandwidth.. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If I got dugg I would mirror the site on blogger.
Digg totally won traffic wise!
W00T! - rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10so... what was the so popular article??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Pity he didn't post how much money he made.
- racketboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah, I've been dugg many times, and I've seen a huge decrease in the digg effect after v3.
Even before then, it could vary depending on the type of material. - paulmike3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this story has more diggs that his original... I wonder if he'll post a follow up story to his follow up story to let us know the new bandwidth totals... :P
- rysolag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i'll boink others, but i don't ever want to be boinked.
- graemee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6gee, first two links of the article are the slashdot & dugg pages on it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People just have to adjust. It makes a lot more sense now to look at a section and see what stories got the most digs for the day or week rather than try to read each one as it pops up (which is now, I think, impossible unless you devote your entire day and night to it).
Using Digg that way gets you the best of the "group mind" without all the other crap that gets up there with just 36 digs or whatever. - fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I'm really sick of these "I got slashdotted/dugg and here is what my traffic looked like" articles that pop up every couple of weeks.
- kwanbis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm just looking for good hosting provider:
1) should handle 5000 users at any time
2) have 99.9 real uptime
3) can growth if my needs do
4) competitive price.
Any recommendations? - cesclaveria, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only thing I dont like about Shoutwire its that it was the replacement to Torrentspy news... those guys were good writing, and the comments were pretty good. But I found digg thanks to them :)
- andrethegiant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1anyone know what he used to graph those stats?
- akinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The users of /., digg and boingboing comprise probably 99.9% of Firefox's marketshare :P
- jlabs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"56,800 uniques over the 4 days"
I guess this would depend on the type of system he setup. I got roughly 30,000 visitors in two days and my bandwidth only hit 3 gig. - mikeblackbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seriously... say how your traffic transfered to AdSense. You don't have give absolute values.. just say in percent. It would really be interesting.
Thanks! - kodeiko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@neo17262: Reassuring.
- intelmole, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You bunch of vandals you!
Look what you did to this poor man's server!
:-D - jdubdub, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The browser stats at the end of the article were great! :D
- NJShadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Cool. Well presented.
- mydiggname, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How about slashbugg, or BiggSlash?...XD
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Slashbugged is pretty great.
- flyingman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think there needs to be a counter of links from digg to the article so that a comparison can be made between views and diggs. While probable part of the jump to front page formula, having them where we can see them would be very educational.
digg on - midgetbus87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Whoo hoo.
This means that more people on digg have Alexa spyware on their computers!
Are you guys morons? - bengotow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha you guys do realize - this guy is generating more traffic to his site by talking about how he got traffic. If I ever get lucky to get slashboinged - i'm gonna write an article and do this!
- kevmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0How I managed to easily survive 2 frontpage diggs at the same time. An in depth article.
http://digg.com/linux_unix/How_to_easily_survive_the_Digg_effect - sypher23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0surprised it didn’t bury his server...
- prosthetichead, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4im sure you are right 10,818 GB is just WAY to much for a simple blog entry (http://digg.com/security/Teenagers_used_to_push_Zango_on_Myspace)
