- therippa, on 10/11/2007, -5/+102I think this sums up why people (especially women) don't take geeks seriously....

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -12/+59Why does Digg have to stuff the "we are all geeks" message down everyone's throat?
- Renton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+45You always need a robe and wizard hat for those... special occasions.
- Irfit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+41I thought that naked in front of the computer was part of the geek etiquette.
- MrFatalistic, on 10/11/2007, -7/+43it's pathetic that being a geek is a statement now, omg I must wear Near Apparel #3 today to keep my geek cred.
***** off. - CaptShmo, on 10/11/2007, -6/+42http://duggmirror.com/tech_news/Dress_Code_Geeks_vs_Non_Geeks/
- Theipolicy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36I don't dress like an error screen!
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32I was at least expecting some funny pictures for this, but all I get was this lousy table? Damn.
- kday, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32those would be nerds, not geeks.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+27But now she lets me put on the clothes myself!
- bIuebonics, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24props to the guy with the helicopter beanie :D
- fernB, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23the geek side described my whole wardrobe.
- wyrdness, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Including the Frankenfurter outfit?
- ianbirtwistle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Should I be worried that I had to google "Chinos"?
- meshman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Where I work there's this odd skew in the interpretation of these terms. "Casual" means no jeans. It's closer to the article's Business Casual. We had an awards dinner to attend and a general email indicated that Business Casual, like what we usually wear in the office, is fine. I get there in my usuals and every other male there from our company was dressed in a black suit and tie. Gimme a break. But then this is a company that subscribes to the Feng Shui thing and lines its breaker panels with styrofoam so the electrical field it 'generates' doesn't interfere with the positive energy of the office. Yes, I know.
- kday, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20Summary: Geeks dress like normal people. We are just a bit more casual and laid back. Nerds are the one that dress weird.
I dress trendy, but casual. Business casual to me is jeans and a collared shirt/nice t-shirt. I hate the dressing up B.S. I just like feeling like myself. Nothing is worse than an uncomfortable, hot, neck strangling dress suit. When I think of a guy in a nice business suit, I think of a dishonest, unknowledgeable, corporate money whore. It just makes people look dishonest in my eyes. I trust people more when they dress like themselves, and looked relaxed.
Also, wtf is up with frankenfurter outfit trackpants. wtf is that? I also had to google all of those U.K. terms used in this article. - VeNoMmx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18LOL!! look at the similarity in the hairstyle!!!
- SinisterBunni, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20YOU have got to be kidding me. These stupid ***** nebulous rules of "you always dress 1 degree higher than what's required" is the biggest heap of *****. If it requires a specific level and that is specified, then that is what should be expected. And that BS about being the best dressed person in the room, sure if you are some loser suck up that has nothing real to contribute, then sure. But usually you will find that the people that do the REAL work and make the REAL contributions are not too worried about sucking the bosses dick to make their impression.
- lithuin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18One of us, One of us!
Gooble gobble, gooble gobble!
We accept you, we accept you!
Gooble gobble, gooble gobble!
One of us, One of us! - arbulus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Dressing gown is a more UK term.
- NerdyNinja, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15They forgot the calculator wristwatch.
- DapperDave, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Stop denying your inner geek.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I'm all for judging people by their clothes. They genuinely do say a lot about people.
But I get really upset when people make the wrong judgment. In a lot of cases, people see the scruffy looking geek and think I'm some poor redneck. No dude, see my t-shirt? Yeah, that's the 1-up mushroom from Mario. That's how you know I'm a geek.
Gets annoying if I go to a store that actually depends on salesmen. They think I'll waste their time and buy something cheap, so they ignore me in favor of the guy who looks like he has money. What they fail to realize is that geeks like me are an easy sale. I'm not going to walk into a department store and let a salesman swindle me on an overpriced fridge. I'm going to do the research and find out which one's a good deal. The only reason I'm at the store is to actually buy the one that I've already decided on. That's like 5 minutes of work for the salesman. They don't get as much commission, but they don't have to work for it either. Help the geek first, then go to the rich guy. - kday, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I wouldn't consider Old Navy and GAP trendy clothes. They are a bit... eh, bland and boring.
You lost. - skillfull, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Geek wardrobe pwn normal people one, because you can find really funny t-shirts :P
- trghpy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14I went to the google developers conference...
Best way to tell how good the speaker would be was by how little they dressed up.
T-shirt & jeans ment the speaker would be good.
Dress shirt ment the speaker sucked, with the exception of the guy who obviously didn't use an iron... - zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Welcome to Digg.com, how many I take your order?
- bIuebonics, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11no, it means you think you're a geek because you know how to use Excel. hint: you're not.
- msaleem, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13You rich bastard.
- EnsErmac, on 10/11/2007, -11/+19http://www.duggmirror.com
- boxmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I don't either.
...but I have in the past. - isaiah1112, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7buried as inaccurate... I am a geek and I love to dress up in a suit and tie for business occasions.
- TexanRudeBoy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7It reminds me of the nonconformist/goth episode of South Park.
- fdiaz83, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Business Casual, awards dinner....you couldn't piece the two together? Haven't you learned that you always dress 1 degree higher than what's required? Also, you always should show up to dinners, award shows, award dinners, interviews, meetings with superiors wearing at least a tie. You can always take the tie off if you're overdressed. Besides, what's wrong with being the best dressed person in the room. Gimme a break!
- toolegittoquit, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11I had to google "Dressing Gown"... it's a Robe apparently.
- aposter, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I don't need to leave the basement to get a job. I'm a professional Digg reader.
- bIuebonics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6and you consider yourself a geek? geek chat: IRC; geek news: popular mechanics, physorg; geek mail: one account for every free mail provider; geek software: an old outdated borland c/c++ compiler because that's what we taught ourselves on. geek computer(s): 3 minimum - main box, repair box, linux server.
- retsig, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Guess no one wants your attention else you would be "takengirlgeek".
EDIT: Man, was that too harsh on my part? "no one wants your attention" Damn I feel bad about it now...but not bad enough to erase the message though. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The Rocky Horror Picture show can be considered a Horror/Sci-Fi/Camp comedy, so you lose!
Fankenfurter FTW! - 35263526, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Sorry, but if you're reading digg, there's some geek in there somewhere.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5hey, that gives me an idea for Halloween.
- eN1X, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well I consider myself a pretty big geek but I dress like the rest of the world. Being a geek doesn't mean you have to look and act like a slob..
- silverchrysalis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5i think that would be the true def of geek
- sholt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5People don't like getting close to you, do they?
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+4It's not a guide, he's poking fun at how everyone dresses to fit in. Here's another of his sites: http://www.yourscenesucks.com/
- Shananra, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4By reader do you mean spammer or gamer?
- ubuwalker31, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Always ask for specifics about what type of clothes to wear to an event.
Geek or not, I don't think anyone can define what business or business casual or casual dress means anymore. I've been to events that were "business casual" where people wore sweats while others wore business suits. Other places won't let you in unless you are in a suit. - erinspice, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I know a guy who dresses in a suit and tie on pajama day. He says since his dress code is one notch down from everybody else's on normal days that it goes negative when everybody else is wearing pajamas.
