- heymark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35My option is called µtorrent and the TVRss feeds.
No, but i am glad to see networks actually pursuing the online TV market. It's helping things evolve a bit. - Basketb926, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19why would the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) affect the way you downlaod tv?
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16tvTad + utorrent = crazy delicious
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Don't forget http://peekvid.com/ and http://television.aol.com/in2tv
- cubbieco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The article did mention bittorrent. Read it again. It even said that it is "extremely popular."
- aussieaubs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12my option is aussie-BT - and im outside of RIAA control :P
w00T - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6all you need is utorrent and http://torrentscan.com/ . Any show you want, within an hour or 2 of when it airs. I'm sure this isn't news to anyone, but it seems odd that the article wouldnt even mention bittorrent, even to say that it is evil and should be hated. I guess pretending it doesnt exist will make it go away.
- dhuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5terrible article, imho. how could you forget adult swim?! they've been streaming for a while...
plus, it's a lot better content then any of those crappy shows :P *ducks from the jack bauer cockgobblers* - e33basketball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Really, it doesn't make much sense that T.V. shows are off limits... as long as you are subscribed to the station via cable or satellite or whatever...its called a VCR.
- Jonny5alive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have no options because i'm from the UK.
So i'll carry on with µtorrent if that's ok with you guys. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree. You don't need a list of options. There's uTorrent+tvRss.net, and or you can pay for your TV shows on iTunes (or similar services). It doesn't get any simpler than uTorrent.
- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Downloadable television, first made popular by Tivo and its competitors, is compelling stuff."
Are you kidding me? I was downloading television shows when Tivo was still in diapers. - shadowsurfr1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.tvtorrent.info/ + utorrent = no missed shows I want to see
- Kiel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm pretty sure hes referring to torrenting in general, but be careful man, there's the beginnings of some cases here, and the free trade agreement could open us up to litigation I've been lead to believe
- DIGGADEEP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i use rapidshare and megashare with good ol' google and some forums and blogposts
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BeyondTV and TV Torrents does a great job. My HTPC is constantly loaded with new Content.
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I WAS outside of file Nazi control, or so I thought. They called me while I was downloading, told me the file I was downloading, then proceeded to threaten me with lawsuit. Over a TV show that I would have been happy to pay for if they allowed for it outside of the U.S. Don't feel too safe. I had post-traumatic download syndrome every time the phone rang for about a month.
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No option here either in Japan. Note to media companies: I will give you money if you let me see the shows!
- leodavinci, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think that with all the success that shows like Desperate Housewives have had online, the companies will have to pay attention.
What better way to get the ever elusive 17-25 male market watching their shows and advertising then to go to the very media that has been stealing them away?
I think that we will start seeing shows that don't have the mainstream audience needed to broadcast to the nation, but nevertheless have a cult internet following that the big networks can tap into and, of course, advertise to. - gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2mediasentry and safenet are the people with the problem
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4VCR? wow, I haven't seen one of those in ages.
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2heh, the dude needs to read what he writes before hitting the old 'publish' button. The comments sounded like he whipped that article out in quite a hurry.
- codeman38, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd be happy with any service that would provide subtitles for the dialogue-- which is why I'm stuck just recording from TV for the time being. Seriously... I know my hearing's bad, but I swear that actors on TV shows these days don't enunciate as clearly as they did decades ago.
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Using rss feeds at tvtorrent.info, which are then shared from pc to xbox is the way I watch tv.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1newnova.org

meganova.org
Basically... all the "nova's". You can keep your commercial garbage. - spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the article: "I look forward to the day that a show, ignored by the networks, first decides to launch itself on iTunes and go straight to consumers."
It's called a podcast. - matrox212, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By "compiled" they mean that they just did a Digg search and copied and pasted the results.
- diggnate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, depending on the shows you like (I personally love Numb3rs, NCIS, CSI on CBS), tvtorrents.com is a great place to get the shows for free. Lots of seeders, few leeches, and the shows usually take a couple of hours to download on a good broadband connection. they do require that you sign up, but they only ask you for your email addy, and no personal info.
- blanski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YOU CAN DOWNLOAD A WHOLE TV!?
- brainache, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually BBC 2 have started streaming their shows on their website after they are aired (not BBC 1 though for some reason) and of course its free.
And NTL cable company have started offering some BBC programs On Demand for free, but appart from that its really BitTorrent all the way. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"What better way to get the ever elusive 17-25 male market watching their shows and advertising then to go to the very media that has been stealing them away?"nnThe problem is many of us in that group haven't regularly watched TV in years. And it's too late to recapture us. TV is way too passive entertainment that just gets really irritating with all the commercial breaks. nThe TV industry's renewed hostility towards timeshifting (first the VCR, now the broadcast flag that would disable DVRs) is the nail in the coffin for someone like me that is use the internet, web sites, movies and video games being available 24/7.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use MythTV on my Linux box, and I use BeyondTV on my windows machine. Both work well, and keep me closer to the side of legality.
- ddales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I moved to Germany a while ago and got pretty excited about the opportunity to purchase Survivor from CBS. I know, I know, reality TV sucks right!? Imagine my disappointment when I read the fine print on all the limitations. That service is definitely setup for failure. I also dig, no pun intended, King of Queens but can't find legal downloadables. TVUnderground is cool but with a day or two delay. Haven't tried utorrent yet, I'll have to check that out.
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why didnt you tell them to go to hell?
They wont bring a lawsuit in your country, which is where it has to be done.
"Bring a lawsuit on, by the way, the DMCA doesnt apply here so have fun in court" - squegie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@otherland
Absolutely agree. I haven't had cable/sat/antenna service since.. well since I moved out of my parents place at the age of 18 back in '99. I own a tv, dvd player, and vcr and watch movies fairly regularly, but find myself getting bored easily watching most tv shows (which is done at friends houses).
Now.. my girlfriend watches some tv shows I can't stand (like Idol) but for the most part only uses the tv to watch local news. I find in recent times I'm getting more interested in the news, but I think that can be handled by the online stuff. - Rangoth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1My option is called VCR
- amanpour, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Call the police."
