- cyferguy, on 07/17/2009, -3/+142I wouldn't mind if the ad was for a three-wolf t-shirt.
- popzero, on 07/17/2009, -2/+120Suppose I might not mind if it was an ad for penis reduction.
- mhf03, on 07/17/2009, -2/+85It might be because youre using firefox with ad block plus. I just disabled it and the option showed up and then I went back to enabling ad block again.
- krayzee911, on 07/17/2009, -0/+77I tried it too, using Firefox. I dusted off my ancient copy if IE6 to login, and the option appeared for me.
It's really ***** that they can do this. It's like, once a month you have to check your Facebook privacy settings and see what options they've added.
Anyone else notice that when they add a privacy control, its default is set to "trust facebook and violate my privacy"? - Verytastycheese, on 07/17/2009, -2/+68WTF I just tried to turn this off and theres no options at all under "Facebook Ads"
- villainousT, on 07/17/2009, -1/+61My friend just pointed this out other day. Putting someone's sister on the face of a single's ad doesn't seem like the best idea for generating clicks... unless >_>
- lolwatermelon, on 07/17/2009, -2/+54That must be a big shirt. I mean, if K-Mart was wearing it.
- codered1322, on 07/17/2009, -1/+37If you read the update you will see that once they caught on to this Facebook immediately banned the third party app that was causing it.
- H3llr41s3r, on 07/17/2009, -0/+35Poor Peter, he doesn't know that his wife has an account on that dating website.
- phrstbrn, on 07/17/2009, -0/+24That's funny mention that. I met my current wife in a K-mart, whom was wearing a 3 wolf tee-shirt.
- FredFredrickson, on 07/17/2009, -1/+23Disable Adblock.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+20But then there would be nothing left...
- scooterbaga, on 07/17/2009, -2/+21Hence use of the word 'reduction'...
- AmazingSteve, on 07/17/2009, -2/+21Facebook can hide behind thier "acceptable use" policy all they like. Fact is it wouldn't hold up in court if someone decided to sue because their likeness is being used to endorse a product. Like software EULA's, this wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell against a legal challenge.
- EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -0/+15They might you as the "before" picture in cosmetic surgery ads.
- urbanetruth, on 07/17/2009, -4/+17Yeah, another blog story with bad information where the author has had to update the story. Check your facts next time instead of trying to hitch onto the anti-Facebook bandwagon for no good reason.
- RainyDayNinja, on 07/17/2009, -1/+13I think they meant "Kind of OK-looking singles are waiting for you!"
- Bloodwine, on 07/17/2009, -2/+13This is why there will be a growing resistance to the cloud. You can't put your data out there without giving access to someone else to do with your data as they please.
- BottledViolence, on 07/17/2009, -0/+11Damn, I've got all the ads blocked so I never knew this. Its so much more fun to see your friends in Herpes creme ads without resorting to Photoshop...
- Cuongfu, on 07/17/2009, -1/+11So his wife is saying it's okay to cheat !
- kharnal, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9Hey dude, do you know where I can get some acid?
- demonthises, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9Would you still call it an overreaction if your face appeared in an ad for herpes cream?
- MagnumVP, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9IE Tab Add-in to the rescue.
- scooterbaga, on 07/17/2009, -3/+12You do know there are really nice beaches here right? Perhaps 'oceanfront' would better suit your assumedly facetious remark.
My apologies if you're actually trying to sell realty. - borez, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8I got it mate, you're not alone.
- deweyhewson, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8Settings > Privacy Settings > News Feed and Wall > Facebook Ads (at the top)
In case anyone is having trouble finding this, it does work (I am using Firefox with Adblock Plus):
http://i30.tinypic.com/nzruk6.png - skinny01, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8Especially if it's a Valtrex ad with your ex-girlfriend in it as an endorser.
- jba68, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7ya don't say
- abadonn, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7I agree, but I just checked mine and it was disabled by default. All of these features should be 'opt in'
- nepidae, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7I dunno about you but that is weird.
- MorbenDK, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8sure they did--
- FredFredrickson, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6If you follow the instructions on this website and the control to disable your appearance in ads is blank, disable Adblock and refresh the page.
- jparkinson, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Adblock is blocking it... disable it and the option shows up
- asnider, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6It's still annoying but, yes, you're right. It's not like they're using your face to advertise things to people you don't know. That said, I wouldn't want my friends thinking that I'm endorsing some random dating site or something that chose to use my picture.
- mrbroli, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5I got an email from a friend saying my picture was posted for gynecomastia. That's exactly what I want my friends to think of me... man-made mammary glands. Thanks, Facebook.
- johni, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6I guess it's time to goatse my own facebook portrait ;)
- amoirae, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Um... we thought you already did.
*awkward* - bicycleman, on 07/18/2009, -1/+6You should load your profile of only pictures of turds. Then turn the setting to = ON.

You could even do a green overlay in support of Iran. - Catchpen, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6...♪♫ lowered expectations ♫♪
- themastersb, on 07/18/2009, -0/+5Are you suggesting wincest?
- BickNailey, on 07/17/2009, -8/+12hot? i think not.
- BIim, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Facebook is really getting on my nerves lately. I'm getting several friend requests a day for people I've been friends with for several years on facebook. I'm getting close to removing my account. It may be some hackers, but it's like they're trying to piss off their users now.
- catchbigd22, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4A friend of mine actually told me she sees me in ads on Facebook all the time. I wasn't very happy about it.
- Konrad9, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Aaaah .. my bad.
- strongsad, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Citibank does the same thing with its privacy mailings. You have to opt-out to avoid having your data shared with 3rd parties... I think they should be forced to have an opt-in policy, but I don't make the rules.
- kestasjk, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3This is what probably happened; douchebag ad agency realized by using a picture of a "single" that you know they know you'll recognize it, wonder what's going on, and click the ad.
The agency getting the money per click for the singles ad will be getting its cash before this comes to light.
Also it's not Facebook, the picture was scraped from the account. - AndrAIa, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4Unfortunately you know it would more than likely be a penis enhancement ad instead.
- ChiaGod, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3Even better, everyone should change their picture to:
http://timesonline.typepad.com/photos/uncategorize ...
and just wait for the dating ads and online kids games ads to start using it.... - falafelkiosken, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3I'm glad I deleted my facebook account (yes you can do that)
