- anotherjeff, on 10/12/2007, -9/+191Common sense is your friend.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -6/+181Not that this particular instance is or isn't valid but it has become increasingly easy for someone to make a (possibly) fake story and have it promoted on digg rather quickly, achieving the goal to discredit a particular organization without actually having to provide any proof of wrongdoing.
For an easy example of how sheep-like diggas have become, see the Sony controller diggs about stolen/not stolen/lied. Just a scandalous blog posting is all you need to get on digg apparently. - Providence, on 10/12/2007, -7/+119Eh, I looked at that website. It's so poorly designed and outdated, it should scream, "***** SERVICE."

Looks OK to me... - blapierre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42Stop payment on the purchase?
- dralter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40File a complaint with the credit card company and file a complaint with the Akron BBB http://akronbbb.org/commoncomplaint.html??step=1&name=A%20To%20Z%20Computers&address=325%20Harris%20Dr&city=Aurora&state=OH&zip=44202&phone=3309953355&from=council&bid=17002042
- richste, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41If you had any sense you'd have clicked the TRUSTe logo that says "Click to Verify" which when clicked, nothing happens. This would be a bad sign.
- Battlecry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Yeah, newegg all the way, baby.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Suggestion :
Make a webpage about the issue and digg your own page instead of directly putting that company in the Digg spotlight.
Thanks to that page, you could even keep people updated about the problem, and maybe get some press from newspapers after a while.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31Man, that site looks SOO legit.
- Neticule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19This is one of the main reasons I only buy electronics of any type from newegg and other reputable places, that i know for a fact are run well.
- Legato, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24tiger... direct...?
even if they do send you stuff your still being robbed - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@bugsy187
"What's with our blame the victim culture?"
What's with our "don't-blame-me" culture where people can't be bothered to excercise a little common sense, some due diligence, and take responsibility for their screwups? The guy got ripped off, he should work to get his money back, but he probably shouldn't have bought from a website sight-unseen in the first place. - Waredgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Yes, PLEASE stay away from tigerdirect! They wouldn't send my order until I called them twice and confirmed the same info online. Then, of course, the item was out of stock. So they offered a more expensive item at a slight shipping discount, but ONLY if I shipped next day air (my original order was 3-day UPS, so they knew that I needed it fast). My $80 order ended up costing me $130.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"If you had any sense you'd have clicked the TRUSTe logo that says "Click to Verify" which when clicked, nothing happens. "
It's worse than that:

- limewood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14exactly, have your friend call his credit card company and open a complaint and ask to file a chargeback against the merchant.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13If you paid with a credit card, call the credit card company, have them stop payment and fight it out for you.
If you paid with a check... you're probably gonna have to chalk it up to experience, unless you want to take them to court. I believe small claims court is up to $5,000. If they didn't ship it, then they won't be able to produce a shipping receipt. - sonofagunn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I've had good results with tigerdirect. They are just a popular whipping-boy on Digg but they don't deserve the bad reputation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14as much as i like to see the little man succeed, digg is NOT your personal lynch mob
- learnmedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Their resellerratings.com feedback screams "STAY AWAY." On the other hand some of those that posted there tell how they got their money back and may prove useful for your friend to get his. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/A2Z_Computers
- UrlorJkron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Then again others actually have friends.
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11And the proof that any of this happened is.......?
How does ***** like this make it to the front page? - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Not to mention how much you just increased his google page rank.
- marinist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9FYI-
Igor Shekhtman is the principal of that company. In case you're interested, here's his home address and phone # (all public info)
IGOR M SHEKHTMAN Born Aug 1967

And, thanks for the warning about this company. - msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Wells Fargo did the right thing in that story. Unless you're just an idiot, if your checkbook is stolen or lost, you should always create a new account or move to another bank. I can't see why someone would be pissed that the bank was looking out for them.
The guy was a stubborn dumbass. QED. - Luiso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6ALERT

- marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Below is also a short blurb on "Igor Shekhtman" on the NASD site--same guy? I also found some weird stuff on I.S. from the Ohio BBB.
"Securities Planners, Inc. (New York, New York), ... Igor Shekhtman (Registered Principal, New York, New York),...The firm was fined $50,000 and McKay was fined $50,000 and barred from association with any NASD member in any supervisory and/or principal capacity. ... Shekhtman was fined $50,000, required to pay $216,498.75 plus interest in restitution, and barred from association with any NASD member in any capacity." - beatomatic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7... and it looks so trustworthy. :)
- Tixer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Anyone remember the Thomas Hawk incident?
If you need an example of what happens when you use Digg as your "Personal Army," this is it. The perfect tale of exacting revenge and dealing severe amounts of ownage.
Whatever happened to PriceRitePhoto?

EDIT: Link - tdowling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Tunguska: There are plenty of brick-and-mortar stores that didn't grow to mammoth proportions, simply because they didn't want to. And there can only be so many CDWs out there. This is simply a local computer store that happens to do business online as well.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Never buy anything from somebody who calls themself "Igor".

If you do not receive acknowledgment of your inquiry or your inquiry has not been satisfactorily addressed, you should then contact TRUSTe at http://www.truste.org/consumers/watchdog_complaint.php. TRUSTe will then serve as a liaison with the Web site to resolve your concerns. - clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Absolutely file a chargeback on the purchase. Should have no problems. And if the company starts to skirt the credit card company then they will probably dissappear soon because the big dogs will be after them.
- paulmalenke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I dont understand why anyone would buy products from a site that looks like this!
- fmucklo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They were at all of the computer shows around here. A Ruski cadre. This North East Ohio area is full of spin offs and relative companies all run by Ruskis. Some have gotten into trouble selling systems with pirate windows. Others have been in larger financial fraud schemes. They are mostly located in the Eastern suburbs of Cleveland. Yes I have bought things from them in the past at shows because of price, but always carefully. The shows have diminished in this area and I haven't seen them for awhile.
- msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uh, FTW and FTL are quickly becoming standard net lingo amongst all age groups and are no worse than any other acronym. Don't be angry that you're falling behind.
Now, as for the word pwn...you might have an argument there. - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No! Using only one site can be safe (newegg), but you may get ripped off sometimes.
Use resellerratings http://www.resellerratings.com/rlist-s1-n2.html
along with a price comparison site like froogle or pricegrabber
In fact, if you used RR, you'd know tigerdirect is a bad site to deal with. - LurkerSteve2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How long have all those shady "photography/electronics" companies based in New York/New Jersey been around? It's common knowledge that they are very shady, selling grey-market merchandise without warranties, etc.
- icexe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4back in the late 90's early 2k's when i lived on the east coast, i remember seeing them at the Computer shows all the time. i ordered quite a lot of parts and accessories from them and never had any problems, even with returns. however, they would get a little hostile with you if you asked for a discount, but would relent if you stuck to your guns or met them in the middle, i came to realize it must be a Russian thing.
they struck me as one of those family run operations, which meant spotty customer service depending on who you ended up dealing with. - bgsneeze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I live near the "store" if you can call it that. The company is really shady. On the site they will list that they have hundreds of Seagate hard drives, then you go to the store and they try to switch you to buying a Western Digital or Maxtor because the Seagates are "out of stock". They customer service they provide blows every time you have a problem or want to ask a question concerning the products you are given a run around. I have also tried to buy a motherboard, when I got the box it was clear that the board had been taken out of the box before, the plastic bag the board was in was torn. I also had tried to buy a ATI Radeon 8500 128 several year ago, and they tried to slip me an 8500LE OEM model (the LE version didn't have dual head, and ran at a slower speed). After this and my friends having problems with A2Z we all seem to like newegg. Computer parts stores in northeast Ohio seem to stink. Try to have the bank/credit company do a charge back, file a fraud notice with the credit card company, file a complaint with the BBB, only get stuff from a well known retailer.
- Backlash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice google map! They must have an underground bunker.... niiiice
- mv10, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Repeated F5 and Digg Effect is a start ....
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I actually bought things from this company before (a barebones P3 and a AMD K6 CPU I believe -- should tell you how long ago it was). I never had any problems with delivery or quality. That being said, there are a lot of these little "Mom and Pop" computer part shops all over the Internet. From what I've observed, most of their customer service is pretty much non-existent -- either the person is annoyed like CS isn't their main job, they don't speak English well or you simply can't reach a human being and go through endless phone menus or have to leave voice messages galore.
Very few of these places are trying to steal your money. They're usually just understaffed, overtaxed or something slipped through the cracks (I don't think most of them use very complex ordering/billing software to track). Go through all the motions before you cry foul. Call them multiple times and send emails. Wait at least several weeks. Then you can take more drastic steps like calling your CC company and cancelling the transaction ad/or disputing it. Then give the Better Business Bureau (BBB) a call.
But first and foremost: Digg is not the place to be inciting ill-behavior against this company (dragging down their site or getting people to do your dirty work). There are legimate channels -- use them. - brickbat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Man, why would you buy from a site like this?
