http://www.flickr.com/groups/uneasyomni/pool/ - invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11i haven't had that issue since 1024x768.. since then, i've worked on keeping less than 100 icons on my desktop
my secret to desktop serenity? hot chick as my wallpaper, so it bugs me when they get in the way :) - commiecat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10They did a contest like this on bash.org a while ago. I couldn't find the contest still archived on their site but here's a picture of the winner (I think):

Same image - two links. Imagine if Digg held a contest in which the person with the messiest desk took a picture of their workspace with "Digg.com" somewhere in the picture. - Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I do have to say, this is "proffesional" messy ;)
- kylebrothert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone.
- Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10People should be ashamed to let their spaces get that filthy. some of these places should be condemned.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9true. empty ramen cup noodles cups MAY be left at the computer for months, but half-full ramen cup noodles cups MAY NOT be left at the computer for months. that's just filthy
- Apoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8+1 for Bouncing Souls poster.
You owe me 500 bucks.
http://digg.com/mods/Animated_Mario_Active_Desktop_Using_Javascript - tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Is it really so hard to trash your place?
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8everything has its place and purpose in a geeky/messy environment (unlike filthy/messy environment of some of those)
one of the main reasons geek quarters appear so messy is that they have more devices (and thus cables connecting the devices) in a confined area. plus, it's a waste of energy to spend hours and hours to hide the cables.. just plug it in and use it already!! - involution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@splammo:
Messiest computer setup, not messiest bedroom.
you lose. - A_Lunatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There is a difference between "Geek Clutter" and filth. The former is usual, the latter is unacceptable.
- jutgreen, on 12/06/2008, -0/+5My computer desk is probably the neatest place in my apartment because that is where I spend most of my time and I dont want to look at junk while I am working/gaming. The rest of the place, well that is a different story...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That setup isn't really messy, per say...it's the rest of the room that's messy.
Now, the bundle of wires and cables behind my home entertainment centre...THAT'S messy. What do we have, here?
TV, backlight, satellite receiver, VCR, DVD player, 5.1 Surround Sound receiver, L/R/Center/Sub speakers (and more wires leading to the rear speakers)...cable modem, VoIP adapter, cordless phone, wifi router with four network cables...PS2, Genesis, SNES, NES...
And all on the same circut. I'm suprised that the breaker doesn't flip everytime I change channels. - aknowles5139, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My computer setup is just as messy... but on a larger scale.
I would take a picture... if only i could find that camera under all the mess.... - FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I guess I'm OC(d) or something, I'm really clean. :-)

p.s. the wall in the background only looks gross because I'm painting it. - coldshuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3After seeing this, no wonder why geeks have hard time to get a woman in their bed... Where the hell is the bed anyways?
- scholty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does anyone here have some links for the sweetest computer setups? I'm currently trying to come up with a design for a 7'11 x 8 ft area. Some kind of build in custom shelfs etc..
Looking for cool ideas!!!
Maybe I should hold a contest and give away some swag for the winning design or so.. what do you guys think? - thydzik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i wonder how many people trashed their room before taking the photos.
- thelandlady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Who the hell cares if you offend. Some of thos workspaces are just seriously disgusting. Has no one ever heard of a thrift store to buy used furniture or anything? I can afford a $2000 machine, $200 digital camera, etc....but I can't afford a $150 vacuum?
- RedStarFire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone remember Dennis from the first Jurassic Park? His desk was pretty messy but, pretty weak in comparison to some I've seen.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2+5
for the Ten Years of *****' Up DVD on the floor - whux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I could've won this hands down a couple of years ago, but I've hit a clean phase, dangit...
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They are looking for food stains, and moldy food... They want health hazards, NOT just clutter. Sorry, but I do not pee in a canteen because I am pulling an all nighter... I prefer to have an envirnment that does NOT attract insects.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6you're condemning -- and thus offending -- a good percentage of the digg community with that remark.. just thought i'd give you the heads up
- JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@noticedneutrino
You sound jealous or something. - xistboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2or you can email it to tips@uneasysilence.com and we can post it for ya.
- garf12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man I thought mine was messing durring my college days, but not compared to some of these.
Setup in College http://www.flickr.com/photos/field_walsh/172453022/
and more recent http://www.flickr.com/photos/field_walsh/167479887/ - ikak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol i have 1 icon on my desktop... my trash can... though i usually have my dls go to the desktop to find it easier before placing it in it's correect directory. Although there is a high amount of geeky/messy people, I am one of those people who are pretty neat when it comes to my computer. I try and keep things as neat as possible. My bedroom on the other hand....
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've noticed people who use an iMac generally have cleaner desks, me included.
Hmm.. - tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats how mine is.
i'm very picky about what even goes on my computer desk. even if my entire apartment were to become a complete mess, my computer area would still be sparkly clean. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i have a mb, stained right through the board with mountain dew.. and it still works fine.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1... and: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62601113@N00/tags/messy/
- tatical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DOL (Damn Out Loud), I thought my room was bad... *****!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I can afford a $2000 machine, $200 digital camera, etc....but I can't afford a $150 vacuum?"
Not if you had $2200, no. You think these spaces are going to be tidied up with a vacuum? - tominabox1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah that was easy.
- heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1None of these are really messy at all, compared to the ones that have been posted on MMORPG forums. We're talking cigarette burned keyboards and small mountains of empty diet coke bottles.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good lord. My Eyes. The Mess. I...
*words fail me* - chemicalsno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the picture on the page for the contest is mine
if I trashed it, it would look a lot worse - xistboi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm shocked nobody is submitting to the flickr pool.
http://www.flickr.com/groups/uneasyomni/pool/ - PayneX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dude you dropped your RAM on the floor.
- fuzzlepop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2heres mine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/18449279@N00/253639068/in/pool-uneasyomni/
- grimfandango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mine too, I'm pretty obsessive about my work space. at the office I always clean my desk before I go home so it's nice and tidy in the morning (and the cleaner can see all the surfaces to clean :).
- gib0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://static.flickr.com/105/253620101_00f81aad0e.jpg
- PawelB, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0you can see more messy rooms at http://www.messintheroom.com
- fuzzlepop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol I was though, im just making the most of being messy now im allowed ;)
- gib0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yup, that was the winner. I remember that contest. Alot of submissions were just laptops on top of books.
- tatical, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You just made me feel that much better, I sleep on a mat too :) / :(
I need to get to Ikea in the worst way. -
