- Heiliger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Our families were close.. I've known Bill since he owned the first Mac in 1984, complete with modem that he would rest the phone handset onto.... It's old-school now... but for a little kid like me, it was amazing to see.
He personally convinced my father to purchase our first family Mac in 85, thereby giving me a great head start in learning the tech ropes (skills I would need later in the visual communication and design profession that I chose as a career). Beyond my first copy of Airborne! and Harrier Strike Mission that he gave me.... He supplied me with my own copy of FullPaint, SuperPaint, HyperCard, MacinTalk... all kinds of apps that got my creative juices flowing.
For that.... as cheesy as it sounds... I am in his debt.
He may not have had the kilt back then, but he definitely had the same interests and knowledge that inspired him to help and entertain so many for so long. - parkylondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Such sad news. DigitalBill, we'll miss you.
- bisonium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Bill was a good friend and I wanted to pass along several websites that have made mention of Bill's passing:

- poshsuicide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I will miss Bill so much. He was always there, for anything. Always willing help out a friend.
- NoneOfOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sad, very sad.
- mahoutie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A real loss to the tech and podcast community. A sad day.
- appliance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digital Bill was the first podcast that really worked its way into my daily routine. Bill seemed like a really cool guy. Very sad. I hope he's somewhere really great now and God's given him the biggest, baddest super-fast Mac imaginable.
- scaleslea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He was also featured today on the Mac OS Ken podcast. Apparently Ken was a close friend of Bill's and his loss hit Ken pretty hard.
- jimmyblake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I will miss his laid-back matter-of-fact way of presenting on Wizards of Technology.
It is not just good subject matter that makes a good podcast - it is also having an engaging presenter and Digital Bill was definately on of those. A sad loss for both the tech and podcast communities. - harrisbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Geek Down (hanging head)
- nosoup4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really enjoyed both of the podcasts of his that I listened to. You will be missed.
- mongin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digital Bill - a podcasting pioneer - will be missed by his fans. He started his show in October 2004 - and I heard him for the first time a few months later. I was a true fan of the Wizards of Technology, and to this day, it is the only podcast that I ever contributed to with comments and questions. Although I cannot claim to have listened to every episode, there are few other podcasts that I have heard more often. Goodbye Bill - and thank you!
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am just in shock. I can not believe that he is gone.
- joshguy1425, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am so deeply saddened, I have no words to adequately express my feelings.
I attribute much of my decision to give macs a try to several conversations I had with Bill, and the constructive coaching he gave me. He was such a helpful and friendly guy.
I'm in denial. I can't believe he's gone. :'-( - mabsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My deepest sympathy to Bill's family and friends.
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think that is known yet. I'm sure we'll get updates at the Wizards of Technology website as they become available.
- Sentinel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He was a great podcaster... he will be missed. :(
- jwk3114, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He will be missed. I really enjoyed his podcast. He had a great voice and a good energy on his show. Godspeed Bill.
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I must confess, I'm dissapointed that this one hasn't gotten more diggs than it has.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That would be you, foobar.
- MrHappypants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's a Donation link for the family up on Macmerc.com now, for those who are interested.
- matthiasgoodman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You sure must not have know much about Bill then. Nitrozac and Snaggy are good friends of his and I am sure they know what he would of liked.
- matthiasgoodman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As am I, and not just because I submitted the page. I think maybe _I_ Shouldn't have submitted it and let someone with more friends do it, since it would have gotten more diggs. That said, the fact that popular people have dugg this story, and it still didn't go very far, makes it even more sad. Worst of all, since it has already reached the first page and dropped off again, I don't think it will go much further.

- DrumsNWhistles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His was the first podcast I listened to. Very sad news, indeed.
- andrewr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They failed to answer the question as to how he died
- pbwill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a shock this is. Every time I heard his voice it reminded me of David Schwimmer. Podcasters and listeners a like will miss him very much.
- heywatchit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOT was one of the first podcasts I started listening to back in the fall of 2004 and it is the only podcast I have ever donated money to. It had been a while since I saw a new show in my iTunes library so I decided to go to the WOT website and see what was going on. Imagine my shock to hear Digital Bill had passed away. Happy Mac trails DB. You will be missed by many people you never even met.
- brentzilla, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Go away you insensitive ignorant troll.
- grewell912, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2You do not bury something unless its got -4 diggs, which becomes -5 which burries it for everyone. It only buries on yours when you digg down.
- Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1If someone ever draws a tribute of me, in a kilt, with a star field background and a quote from Spock, I want you to know right now, I'm coming back and will ***** haunt your ass.
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1In the end, maybe being an apple user killed him.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+2So who is this world famous personality that nobody's ever heard about?
